Title: What Is Your Favourite Acr
Description: The best routine

zinally - January 23, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)
Just to compare what u think the best routine or maybe u have yours?
Tommy Wonders routine
Daryl's Ambitious Card
Caravaggio Card
Tamariz "Doubly Ambitious"
Bill Malones "I Don't Even Have A Pocket"
Dai Vernon's Ambitious Card
Jahn Gallo
Oz's
Justin Hanes' ambitious routine
Brad the Ellusionist
maybe your own routine

CLJ - January 23, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
The best routine is always your own, because it'll suit your style and presentation the best. I can't imagine imitating someone else's Ambitious Card routine word-for-word, move-for-move.

As for my own ACR, it varies according to my mood (which fluctuates every 5 seconds). I usually keep it down to a maximum of 4 phases though. You don't want to be going around boring audiences with a routine as long as Daryl's - that's plain overkill. (no offence to Daryl Martinez and Daryl Ho, even though the latter has nothing to do with this)

GordonLi - January 23, 2005 10:55 AM (GMT)
yep, personalise ur magic. but i admit i need to rethink my routine...

Coke - January 23, 2005 12:51 PM (GMT)
for me its daryl's

ok u guys might think its not right. but most people do acr in streets. like no proper show or something.

daryls acr is entertaining and it may seem long.

BUT CAN U IMAGINE? IF DARYL DOES A FRIGGIN SHORT ACR DURING HIS SHOW!? lol...

BuaYa - January 23, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
David David David!

PHEAR HIS ROUTI|\|E

Kevin - January 23, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
David's routine is REgALY good. Talk about a PET trick :D

I love the card to mouth ending that Solomon showed me the first time I went to MC. So... Urban :D

[Ling] - January 23, 2005 02:36 PM (GMT)
For me, it's Daryl's, but I do modify it here and there to suit me and the various situations. I don't patter and say and do the 'magical' moves the same everytime, have to see the situation. That's more practical, I think. ;)

Brendan - January 23, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
i use a combi or brads, blaines and yeah the card to mouth as ending.... that's like so so good to do.. fav!

[Ling] - January 25, 2005 09:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah, card to mouth never fails or hardly ever fails to wonder and amaze. Loved that variation move. :D

Kevin - January 25, 2005 11:21 AM (GMT)
My favourite ACR is the one that you can't do!! MUAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA....

Daryl - January 25, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
The raise rise has got to be the best concept for an ACR. also unbelievably difficult.

BuaYa - January 25, 2005 12:02 PM (GMT)
LoL. I like Chris' ending... or was it Huron's?

Huron - January 26, 2005 03:51 PM (GMT)
Haha, which ending is that?

Huron

Moondust - January 26, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
Many ACR routines comprise of similar elements. Learning the general sleights involved and watching different performances not just from professional magicians, but also from skilled hobbyists, will help to generate more ideas to formulate your own routine. An effective ACR can be performed without finger-munching sleights, as long as it is performed with flair and confidence. Difficult moves can back you up to impress fellow magicians, but you don't really have to go to that extent if you're a beginner or if you're performing for laymen... a little creativity will suffice.

I always feel that the success to a good ACR routine lies in doing a convincing DL. A good ACR routine IMO isn't something with lots of fancy moves. Rather, I would prefer it to be performed with a minimalist approach to keep it simple for the audience.

Mine's so very Daryl. Maybe it's because I do the Larry Jenning's snap DL most of the time. But I like to interject a few kicker endings into it. I have endings to an ACR which involve a completely blank deck, colour seperation with complete numerical order, different coloured-back ambitious card, but most of the time, if I'm performing impromptu and standing up, I would do a double force on the ACR(once in the beginning as a mental prediction, which gives me enough misdirection to prep a 2-card tilt while the spectator is reacting, and once at the end as a magical coincidence).

I've also been constantly using a flip-over triple-lift suggested by Huron (thanx dude!) and I saw a flourish slip force, which incidentally doesn't look like a slip force at all  , by Kevin in the last meetup (I need to ask you how it's done again, Kev). I'm dying to learn that to incorporate in my routine.

And as I mentioned in a different post, I can't do Raise-rise (damn, I hate you Huron  ) so I'm waiting for my Escalator gimmick (hey Cynwell, you reading this? :D ) to arrive.

Kevin - January 27, 2005 12:43 AM (GMT)
Oh, yeah... the spread-slip force. I was playing around with the slipcut force, but didn't like how it looked, so I changed the handling some :P

I'll try and make a tutorial... and post it up here *somewhere*

GordonLi - January 27, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
i think for ACR, its effective and very amazing if done slowly, convincingly, deliberately, cleanly and simply. and like what moondust said, all DLs shud be perfect!

im thinking of how to make my ACR meaningful...

[Ling] - January 27, 2005 08:26 AM (GMT)
Yeah, ACR is a great introduction to other rountines after doing it. It keeps the still stunned while you continue with another rountine.
And yup, DLs should be flawless or near to it.

That one that you displace half the deck! Then it rises above the displacement!

gerald - January 30, 2005 11:55 AM (GMT)
i have a vote for devo acr that's the best.

Wha????????????????? De'vo's ACR?

(looks down at gerald's signature) Oh.

[Ling] - January 30, 2005 12:31 PM (GMT)
CLJ is like Cowell, man... Cynical.

Anyway, yeah, Devo has any ACR(s)???!!! I don't think so. If it is his false cuts and stuff, then okay.

-- Ling

BuaYa - January 30, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
False cuts don't count as an ACR.

And Chris, that was so mean!

Daryl - January 30, 2005 01:22 PM (GMT)
HAHAHHA Chris that was awesome :P

devo has only one false cut.. but u need the box. ahha..

the day u see devo doing magic, buy yourself 4D.

i've heard the Raise-Rise is super hard.. is there any material other than Ray Kosby to learn it effectively?

OHH!! Thanks for reminding me about it Justin. Yes I haven't performed that in ages. That's my ending called "The Twist". It's a pun. How punny.

Huron

BuaYa - January 31, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
I do that by the way. Not the same way of course ;) I edited it so little that you'd still be able to sue me. I displace only one card...

I saw him doing the flipback vanish, as well as magic moves in De'ring. If I don't strike 4D, I will place you in the middle of a cemetary, and snap my fingers to make you rise to the top. "Ambitious Corpse Exhumation", I call it :P

[Ling] - February 1, 2005 12:55 PM (GMT)
Haha, Kev, descrating tombs now.

Wow, one ACR effect can spun up to 2 pages, as it lives up to it's ambitious name, it never fails to come up to the top of this active list.

:P

magicalee - February 3, 2005 08:26 AM (GMT)
hi

i think the best routine is never a long one. make it simple, impactful and 4 different methods of revealing the ac will be enough. Just my 2 cents.

This is quite nicely done ACR moves call..

Stairway to heaven by Reynold Alexandra

Enjoy It :P

Alexander - March 24, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
I think Tommy wonder's ACR is one good reference. But i prefer Sankey's Paperclipped ending. Rocks!

Barney - March 24, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
I prefer Blaine's ACR.. But i do it with a slightly different approach..

Just some ideas, ya?

I say stuff like :"Ok, and now ur card goes into the middle.. It should stay there.." *turn over top card* "Crap. It didn't work. Let's try it again.." *another sleight* "Bummer. Something's wrong here.. Stupid card.." etc.. My act is that of a frustrated magician who can't even get his deck to obey him.. This patter and the whole routine has gotta work as one perfectly (a bit of a challenge). An Oscar-winning act of frustration is a must too.. :g: Hope this gives the ACR a slightly different perspective.. B)

Btw, when i'm bored and dun wanna use too much effort (i'm a very lazy person), i call upon my self-working friends, Mr. Stripper and Miss. Svengali.. ^_^ :off:

pph3cy - March 24, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
Cosby's raise rise? anyone does that?

BuaYa - March 25, 2005 01:54 AM (GMT)
Maybe Huron? Heh heh.
I like the thingy that allows the card to visually move within the pack...

pph3cy - March 25, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
yah its visual. i got that Cosby dvd ..

Not only does he do it a lot, he got the routine down in just ONE WEEK... faster than anyone I've ever seen.
