Title: Aerial Fishing
Description: Catch a Toman in the air
Magicdow - January 24, 2005 04:59 AM (GMT)
There's a lady magician coming from China to perform this effect. The fish caught is a big one (saw it from the poster). There'll be a few performances starting from 25 to 28 Feb at 7 pm in Century Square (near Tampines MRT). I'm not too sure about the rest of the dates.
Last year they engaged the mask chaning magician from China and it was stunning!
BlueRabbit - January 24, 2005 05:07 AM (GMT)
Is it a public performance? Sounds cool.
I will go with Ning Ning, she likes to watch female magis
The mask changing act is a very old "performance art" in china. I've always thought that it's a little unfortunate that it is now performed as a magic trick.
Magicdow - January 24, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
Its for the public, funny, I'm trying to get her to go too. Man, she's getting popular.

| what is aerial fishing? |
Catching fishes in the air. Fish will appear at the end of the fishing line when it is cast in the air.
ren8585 - January 24, 2005 08:57 AM (GMT)
ive heard about his from huron =p
Brendan - January 24, 2005 10:31 AM (GMT)
im confused
any clips on it? u mean u catch the fish with ya bear hands as soon as it leave off the water, as in u toss the fish high up and u catch? blur already lol...
Magicdow - January 24, 2005 10:38 AM (GMT)
I'll try again.
It is basically fishing with a fishing rod in mid air, not in the water. The performer will cast the rod/line in mid air and the fish will appear at the end of the line.
I don't know about this coming performer's version. The one I've seen before is fishing in the air but the fish is a small goldfish.

Yeah. Saw you and Joe Yu did that.
M.A.D. and others, sorry, I made a mistake on the date. Its happening this month not next month. Anyway, I just came back from the show.
The lady performs a silent act. All patters were done by the compere which really sucks.
Here're the list of effects done (according to my memory)
Snow storm (very tiny confettis, not very visible)
Bill switch ala TT
Papers to bills
Card manupulations, from the front, its entertainment, from the back, its education. Those people riding down the escalator could see what's happening and how its done. Sad. Ends with card throwing ala Juliana Chen.
Thumb cuff "escape". This one is very interesting, the cuffed hands can go thru a rod held by spec. I like this very much, cool idea.
Not for the highlight of the performance. Aerial Fishing, man, I was disappointed. I know how its done. The poster describing the effect is not totally truthful. Not really fishing from the ""Air". See to know what I mean. Guess I was expecting too much. Not a bad idea though.
Overall, go watch it. Its free anyway.
tai - January 25, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
The fish is alive??? Poor fish!! Hope she dun use the same fish over and over again, the poor fish got to suffer so many time. Anyway sound like a cool show, will check it out just to see this effect.
Np,Rongzai glad u liked it.
Magicdow - January 25, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
Come to think of it, I think the fish is kinda tortured (fish is tied to the line).
GordonLi - January 25, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
that is so cruel! no respect to animals, unethical! livestock used in magic shud be properly treated.
[Ling] - January 25, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
Oh this one! I saw this performance at Hougang Mall already. I was like 'WTH', playing with damn fishes?
Then she got eels and stuff, very fishy magic. B)

Just heard from a friend who read the New paper today. 2 full pages of her performing. One of the page is actually a pic of her exposed (not her body but the MO of the production of the fish).
Sad, the lady has a few more shows to do, wonder if she's going to continue with the same routine.

Gee....i dun think she went to tell the reporters the method herself did she?
Did the reporter figure it out themselves or did they go ask some other magician who so "generously" offer to help them write the report?
Huron - January 30, 2005 10:29 AM (GMT)
No worries the fish is safe.NEW PAPER EXPOSED THE ACT SHE 'took a year to perfect". What thrill do they get in doing that? Jeez.
Huron
Magicdow - January 30, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
She actually told the reporters where she hide the fish and also say that the fish can stay without water for some time. But she decline to say how she produce the fish. But the photographer managed to take a pic of it.
Aloy - January 30, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
That's something i haven't heard before
...smashing her own rice bowl
That's really funny in a really weird way.... B)
tai - January 30, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
MMmmmm.. the ger is just 16 year old lu ning from henan. On the newspaper report, it mention she reveal the trick herself after some probing frm the reporter.
Mayb she is too young to handle pressure from the media?
M.A.D. - January 31, 2005 01:29 AM (GMT)
 i could not see the Snow storm (very tiny confettis, not very visible)
:o Bill switch ala TT (i spot the TT)
;) Papers to bills (I while like that because i just like money)
:P Thumb cuff "escape". This one is very interesting, the cuffed hands can go thru a rod held by spec. (i like that tool, cool)
-_- Not for the highlight of the performance. Aerial Fishing, disappointed guess i know how its done.
B) but it was ok for me and my family outing.
Now i m learning now to do the "Aerial Fishing" in my work, he...he.... work hard and play hard.
Ning - February 3, 2005 08:03 AM (GMT)

Damn! I'm impressed!
Ning can be so well informed it's not funny :D How did you possibly find this out? The ministry called to inform you? :P
Any "wind blow grass move" cannot escape her many eyes and ears..... B)
Ning - February 4, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
;) Morphy, It's a girl thing... LOL
weehome - February 8, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
Anyway, I went to see the fish catching at Tiong Bahru. I was kind of disappointed.
Firstly, there's this old man, I think commented in Chinese when doing the thumbcuff escape "Magic is all fake, it dependent on the speed (fast slow)."
And all the PRESS from the chinese newspaper are there!
next the fish catching... she went into the audience so maybe at most 5-6 person around her knows what is happening. (I know that when done on stage it will not be too obvious but if I were a stage manager, I would provide 2-3 rows chairs in front for early birds, that solve most of the problem! It was cover the production and because the ppl are seating down, when she hold up the fish, it will be visible.)
Anyway, the press was trying to get a good shot of the fish production so the lady was asked to go to this space in crowd to make the fish appear. She drop the fish on the floor. (Still I couldn't see the production myself.) A friend told me that the press REVEALED how it was done.... sigh...
GordonLi - February 9, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
yes, she will be coming for the AGM.
its very sad that newpaper actually revealed the secret to how she did the trick. she must have spent years to master that, and exposure kinda discredit her. hiaz...
Winder - February 9, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
knowing how to do it and producing it well may be 2 different things, but it's still sad that people know how she did it and the excitement is all gone now.
GordonLi - February 11, 2005 11:08 AM (GMT)
the purpose of magic is so that ppl dont know how its done, once they know how its done (even if they cannot do it), theres no point performing magic. and if u still perform while ur audience know the secret, its just juggling and no longer "magic".
tham - February 15, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
darn. she couldn't make it for IBM AGM today coz her visa expired. probably the same reason they cancelled her act in other places.
