Title: Fism 2009 @ Beijing
Description: 26th till 31st July 2009

Anyone planning to go? It's much closer to home this time round. The last one was at Stockholm, which costs a bomb just to fly there alone...

I'm really looking forward to this coming one... But it isn't cheap either. The event itself will cost 388 Euros (760 SGD) for those 6 days excluding travel, accomodation and food.

So.. the question comes again... Is anyone planning to go?

Cheers,
Kenneth

Hey Kenneth,

I believe that both Jerome and Bernard already booked their places. Best you if get yours early or there'll be no spaces left! :P

It's not cheap, but it's the most affordable it'll ever be for us since FISM started.

Hi Kenneth,

Yups, I'm going for FISM 2009. I was really lucky to be able to go. I've already booked the tickets and the hotel. The hotel rates are available here: https://www.fism2009.org/hotel/index.asp

The accomodation wise they have 3-4 Stars service apartments that are split into 2 or 3 rooms which you can share with your friends. This makes staying there much cheaper. Prices include free breakfast daily and complimentary shuttle service to the Convention daily.

This is indeed a good opportunity for Asians like us to visit FISM as it's always organised in the States or in Europe where the currency is already stronger than us. This time round we have the upper hand but of course flying there is not exactly cheap. If you have the time, you can probably take a budget flight to Hong Kong and then transit to a domestic flight to Beijing. This would save quite a bit.

Hope this info helps in those still considering to visit FISM... :D

Cheers
Jerome

Since you have already booked your tickets and hotel , what is the cost of it all ?

jeromefang - December 5, 2008 10:17 AM (GMT)
Hi Louis,

I'm flying my SQ and my stay is longer there so my cost will not be what you're looking for as it would be more expensive than normal.

The convention is 6 days and the cost of the different accomodations are already in the link I provided. I suggest you pick the one you're interested and calculate youself. Air ticket wise is just a few clicks away at so many of the different airlines available.

Cheers
Jerome

Want to apologise if my questions are inadequate. I'm new to magic and still not too sure about a lot of things. I went to the website but information there is sparse and website is not yet done up completely.

I saw the programme and it seems like the convention will be full of competitions of stage magic and close up magic. I also saw Lennart Green on the list of those who will attend. ^^ wondering what else the convention offers? Do they have stuff like cheaper magic wares? I can see the benefit of this is seeing professional and top class magicians perform and learning from this. Any others?

Honestly i do not think i can attend this year's because the cost seems pretty hefty and i'm not a rich guy. :P However, i'm curious to know more about it and maybe attend some other year.

Would appreciate the info. Thanks. B)

The reason some of us are attending is because this probably the cheapest Fism we can afford to attend.

Fism is held once every 3 years and usually its held in Europe. Imagine the cost of its held in Europe. Besides the competition, there will be plenty of lectures to attend. You probably won't find any cheap stuff there but you can definetly find some new stuff.

The standard of the competition is very high. Many who have attended past Fism says that its the best magic convention. If you're prepared to go, be prepared to fork out at least 3 thousand dollars, more if you want to buy props.

There are other conventions nearby too. Singapore had 2 convention before and Bangkok had 3. I have attended both and feel that they are very good and well worth the money.

I suggest you start saving money now so as to attend these convention. I put aside $100 every month just for magic conventions.
