Title: Muscle Pass
Description: what type of coin
ron_magic - September 22, 2004 08:42 AM (GMT)
hey anyone here can do a muscle pass? what coin did you use? i use singapore 50cent but i counldn't get it high up enough.
JamKid - September 22, 2004 09:12 AM (GMT)
i uses a australian 20 cent coin, which is slightly larger than a 50cent sg coin.
i cant get good heights on sg 50cent coins, the max i guess is just 3-4 inches. and it's harder for me to get it into position.
i do have large hands as an asian, so i think 50cent coins should work well with smaller size hands than mine.

I do it with half dollar or the Singapore 50 cents. My height is dropping due to lack of practice. :(

Thread of the muscle passers.....
I can get it highest with a 1/2 dollar, but i started with AU 20 cents. malaysian 50 cents is about that size too. I think sg 50 cents is really difficult thou i can make it jump a little. It's just too small to get a good leverage.

just an idea i've got for muscle pass.
i use it for the coin thru spec hand routine.
basically i drop a coin in the spec's opened hand n get him/her to close the hand once i drop the coin in their hand.
meanwhile i put the other hand n pass the coin to hit the spec's hand.
now the spec literally feels the coin going thru his hand...

been practising it for nearly 3 days...(okay, 10 mins per day)
finally able to make it jump like 1 inch above...
but, it's still hard...
i use a malaysian 50 cents..

i started using an australian 50cent coin to practise, which is about 1.5 the diameter of a sg 50cent coin. it helped me to get the feel n find a good spot for the pass.
a training tip, glue/stick/tape/whatever 2 or more coins together n pass them as one.
it helps to build the strength of ur muscles

Sticking 2 or more coins together to pass them sound a bit like shaolin monk/ninja kinda training style.....very extremem :D
My tip: Keep your passing hand as stationary as possible when practising, like putting it on a table or your lap. You will find that with a little upward motion of the hand, you can make the coin go a lot higher, but once you acquire that action, it is very difficult to drop. And you will get comments from some specs later that you are just "throwing it up". So keep the passing hand super still right from the start.

woohhh..those skills are much better than magic...

I do the Muscle pass a LOT... gotta keep in shape: this is the kinda thing that you might lose if you don't do it frequently.
It's so fun to see them freak out when it goes the other way back up... they just stare, run their eyes, and stare some more. SO funny.
I do it with a US half dollar, because I do a lot of my effects with those. Huron can do it with a little 5 cent coin, though... I also do it with a cased deck of cards. "Muscle Deck"
I'm serious!

Haha. I remember taking up the challenge when I heard a guy at Magic Castle go "It's IMPOSSIBLE to do the muscle pass with Singapore coins!"
I just had to prove the guy wrong.
The irony?
I'm not good at muscle passing half dollars... but hand me any Singapore coin... and I'll spend it.

I have managed to make SG 50 cents jump ever so slightly.....to try any harder will be waste of effort. Better off practising perfect faro... :)
That's why really curious to see huron muscle pass. Just a SG 20 cents and my jaw will crash thru the floor already....

Andi Gordan applied the use of a muscle pass very nicely in his video on MVD "In Through the Outdoor". It's a beautiful coin through window effect that's amazingly visual. He performs it flawlessly. Do check it out. His coinroll is very good too.
