Title: "sure Hit" Mentalism Effects/tricks
LoyaLover - December 7, 2008 12:36 AM (GMT)
Im guess most mentalism tricks is not a sure hit. Im looking for a few that can be impactful with the right presentation can be a 100% sure hit. I have found a few like "Telephone bullet catch", "K.E.N.T" and some others that makes use of fomulas. Was wondering if the experienced guys could maybe mention a few more.
Besides Kolossal.
(P.S. I understand that K.E.N.T is NOT a SURE hit.)

Invisible Deck? Or Breakthrough Card System?
Can't think of what can go wrong with those.
Littlemouse - December 7, 2008 05:30 AM (GMT)
Rainman aka ultimate prediction - Lennart Green
Weather or not - Devin Knight (takes abit of casual force)
stigmata - Ellusionist
Time Machine & Touches - Kenton Knepper (one of my favourites)
Some suggestions of some nice mentalism, they can be sure hit but i dare not say its easy work. Takes abit of rehearsing and some of the routines can be long and if u have problem remembering steps i doubt you want to pick up anything else except stigmata on my list.

Brainwave deck , thought foreseen or blizzard ?
Great mentalism :D

Stigmata is a good choice.
Just that there are some little conditions you need to look out for if you are using the "namecard version". You would know what I mean when you see the video.
The first version (on the DVD) require a F, but of course you don't have to use a classic f as suggested, but it would not be as strong if you don't. For the third version, it's definitely not sure hit, so may not be the one you want.
Blizzard is very risky... IMO.
Brainwave and ID isn't much different, but generally, most magicians prefer the ID. Think there is a thread on it somewhere.

I think Brainwave is ingenious. Blizzard is a revolutionary idea. Helder Guimaraes took the concept and develop his Blank Deck Routine which i thought, kills. You could check it out but i suppose only card guys might be interested.
There is also one easy card mentalism card which i like alot. It requires living gimmick (if you know what i mean). I did the trick twice only and it blow minds. It can be considered a beginner trick but I love it. PM me if you want to know.
Check out Wounded by Robert Smith also.

I personally enjoy name card version alot more than any other version. To support Axl's comment, i second that on the conditions issue, but its not that big a problem. I never had any problems performing to small crowds. Stigmata is by far the easiest and convincing mentalism. But of course, i seriously do think the price for the DVD is rather steep.

Stigmata causes my hand to pain aha :P
there is also books on mentalism i saw in book store example the "Practical Mental Magic" or "Marc Lemezma's Mind Tricks : Mastering the Art of Mental Magic"[it have two volume].
Its easy to understand and most of the effect hit great. :D

Are you also considering parlour or stage mentalism?
If for small crowds, there are some really simple things you can do like PK touches or "Touching on Hoy" (in Luke Jermay's 3510 book). Or you can just arm yourself with a N*** writer.
LoyaLover - December 9, 2008 05:00 AM (GMT)
For small crowds or even 1 on 1 actually. I have came across the books mentioned.
None actually describes how a N*** Writer works besides the use of it. So don't know whether it would be practical for me. Derren Brown suggests using a L*** in the nail which works fine, so thats something im considering but i think i still need someone to guide me along.
"Living gimmick" isn't quite my kinda thing. Convincing it may be but i think ill have to leave it out.
I have watched Stigmata over the holidays and i thought it wasn't quite worth the price. However, i do agree that it can provide an impactful effect. It would be nice to watch you perform it, littlemouse.
I think that the last presentation mentioned in stigmata is something im looking for. Yes, its not 100% hit. But the reaction was great when i did it. Just wondering if theres any books in particular that focus on the different methods to F a number from 1 - 10. I have read up some on Banchek and i believe that there should be more that provides a tip or two.

Thought you wanted something "sure hit"?
The third version, if you can pull it off, is the closest thing to real magic... but I find nowadays, the "choose a no from X to XX" is quite overused. So you may have lower chances of getting your wanted answer. Unless you can use Banachek's way of asking 3 persons (in his PSI series)... but it would not work for 1 person.
Blame it on those books on "seduction techniques" where they used it as a opener.
Littlemouse - December 9, 2008 07:24 AM (GMT)
OOooo it seems the discussion has turned to become one on stigmata. Just to add something about the 3rd version is the point that its too risky even with banachek's tips. I dare not risk chance of ruining performing any other mentalism effects, which is the reason never have i once done it before.
Most my trick revolves around predictions and mentalism thus i try as hard to have a clean record infront of my audiences to further facilitate my future performances. (mentalism do depend alot on how much your words can convince them to believe or guide them towards certain effects)
Although many of us do not care to use gimmicks or prefer not to at all, i still feel its a good tool to explore. Muggles do not care much how we do it as long as we do it nicely. In fact i believe having an ID as mentioned by Axl is pretty much your walkaround magic encyclopedia.(ok im exgaggerating). Alot of mentalism tricks requires a conducive environment and i think its not really my kind of "street" magic.
That being said, if you have no qualms about being restricted in fine space performing, check out Rainman and Time machine&touches or 7 deceptions they are really great material. Light on props or in the case of rainman none, and sure hit.
joeltay81 - December 10, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Touching on Hoy that I mentioned earlier is an example of an impromptu, prop less mentalism effect that you can perform. Ok. Maybe you need a pad of paper and pens. Or PK Touches is also prop free. (If the audience think it is prop free, it is)
Muscleaxl, you have been reading some really interesting books.
muscleaxl - December 10, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
Ahem... yeah... I just thought I might just expand my horizons a bit.
Ok, I'm a bit :off:
Jeff Gan - December 14, 2008 09:15 AM (GMT)
There are tons of sure fire mental effects.
All you need to do is go back to basics guys. Time to dig up your Corinda's and Annemann's.
Louis - December 20, 2008 03:23 AM (GMT)
Maybe you can try "Matthew Mello's Technique" , some people in the Cafe have said it a sure hit .
