Title: Jumbo Mumbo
muscleaxl - December 26, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
For those who have a dull Jumbo Coin (the cheaper one, not the very nice and shiny one), do you think it's a problem that when you produce it, it doesn't look as shiny as the half-dollar?
I mean, logically, the jumbo should be the same half-dollar they saw a moment ago and would it appear inconsistent to be less shiny when it "expanded".

Yeah. Thats why you must always polish that jumbo coin. Or you can get the chromed one. But then again with the chromed one, you must polish your halfs.
Either way, it is best to make them look the same, because at the end of the day, you want your audience to believe it grew instead of a switch.
And the dull jumbo coin looks like a disc of metal from far, hard to see its details. So go for Chromed!

Just knew I shouldn't saved my money on cheap stuff.
Maybe now I must make my halfs duller instead.
By the way, do you think using dull-looking halfs make you look bad?

Hmmm. I dont think so.
But with a shinier coin it has added misdirection cos of the shine.

Anyway, just writing this, I saw a clip of this guy Stone (not David Stone but another Stone, but I forgot the first name) who did a Jumbo Coin using a dull Jumbo. At least as far as I can see, it's not shiny.
The reactions were good but I'm not sure is it because the audience were all Japs.

Tom Stone yea?
Hmmmm. I think its a build up thing cos he did other magic before that is it? I might be wrong. Well, I guess, its really a personal choice. To me a dull coin is almost as good as a yellow old deck.

Is this the clip Axl?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KDriiutF4k&feature=relatedI vbelieve it's Tom Stone, as there are not many Sone in magic. Tom Stone is a very good SOH artist. He had a One Handed Pass that looks damn nice but can only be done with misdirection.
Actually the dull Jumbo which is the dull version one can be polished. Ive polished mine before and many magicians thought that I used the Chrome one. It's definitely not as shiny as the chrome one but it sure gives the consistency with my Half Dollars. Just use some liquid Brasso and polish over it. The 1st time will take a good 20-30min but after that you can probably just polish one a month. Try it store it in an air tight place as the air this jumbo will oxidise very quickly over time. Hope this helps... :D
Cheers

Ya it's Tom Stone.
Ok, I shall try polishing, but I doubt it would be that shiny as the material itself is quite dull.
By the way, for Jumbo, you all prefer to prduce it by:
- HPC
- Shuttle P
- The "stretching" way?

Actually the chrome one also oxidises abit. But very slightly. And the worse part is that it cant be polished back to silver.

I own a dull jumbo since it is cheaper.
If you want it to shine you can try to polish it with this metal polish call metalsol. But its quite a trouble I feel. Dirty your hand. The shine wouldn't last long either. I only polish them up for my shows.
Well, anyway at the end of the day it still shines.
