Title: Small Stage/parlour Mentalism Effect
Description: pls advice
joeltay81 - December 30, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
I'm looking for a suitable mentalism effect for a small stage or parlour setting. Chingay Festival actually. Would like some advice.
The catch is this. I am looking for something that:
1) No interaction with audience as there is no mic or sound system. They can't hear much
2) No calling the audience to the front as they are not allowed to walk to the front
3) Big enough for a small stage or parlour act
4) No big props as this is open air and might be relatively angle sensitive
5) Will be done open air under the sun, so no mirrors and all that
I'm doing Jon Allen's Silent Treatment as the opener. Looking for other suitable effects that will fulfill the above criteria as well as complement the effect. I was thinking of fizz master as it fulfills all the above criteria, but does not seem to complement Silent Treatment well. I am not used to dancing to the music and all those things that stage magicians sometimes do. More use to street or close up performance, so it would be hard to switch overnight. Besides, it might not complement "Silent Treatment:.
Pls Advice.

Wow silent treatment is one of the routines i love but seldom get to see anyone perform. Anyway i think you chose a great opener, but i don't think fizz master suits here since you probably cant explain what you are doing without a mic and i don't think using body gesture would really let your audience understand what you are doing.
Since you are already doing jon allen's stuff why not just take the same card(maybe trick switch it in between the applause) at the kicker ending and continue to do another trick with it. Im not sure how far your audience is but if its close enough to see, might want to consider doing another trick by jon allen. Double back seems pretty good since its pretty visual. And more importantly you don't really need anything besides a small table(not counting what you need for double back).

I'll look into that. Thanks.

I've just taken a look at double back. Not too sure if it is suitable. Seems to be more for close up then stage... but thanks anyway.
I might just do some metal/spoon bending after silent treatment. If anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

I think you should clarify with the organisers. If there is no sound system, what would be the other performers (singers, MC, speakers) gonna use?
There should at least be a basic sound system, right?
Doing stage mentalism without everyone getting to hear you is like watching a concert on TV with the sound turned off. Not worth the effort.
