Title: Valentine's Day Magic
Description: Doing magic for your other half

Mabas - February 2, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
Just asking, is anyone thinking of doing magic for anyone? I think it would be romantic. :) I'm trying to figure out what to do. Cards are like not that romantic so I thinking of making either a rose or chocolates appear and give to a girl. Anyone doing anything? Also anyone with a suggestion on what I should do or not do?

Hele Rose! Would be nice!

Justy - February 2, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
haha... lovestruck indeed eh... too bad magic would not really work for me... haha...

Kevin - February 2, 2005 08:21 AM (GMT)
Floating rose is tried-and-tested, but still... it's a little cliche now, ya know?

What you can do is this: have her write her name on one side of a card, and you write your name on one side of another. Patter for a while about the powers of love, romance, and Bass Guitar, and then show that your signature has jumped onto the other side of the card with her signature. Comment how the signatures represent you and her respectively, and like the signatures, y'all will never come apart.

Or you can do floating rose. Bah-humbug.

Ingenius! Where you get this idea from?

CLJ - February 2, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
With reference to what Kev said, Paul Harris has an effect from AoA called Hi There Babycakes where both signatures end up on the SAME side of the card. Comment how the signatures represent you and her respectively, and she'll comment how having both signatures on one side of the card instead of each signature on one side kinda implies that you're gay.

Raoul - February 2, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
Kev's idea sounds a bit like Doc Eason's "Anniversary Waltz".

However you could probably come up with your own version a la Paul Harris' Babycakes using the Out-To-Lunch principle.

I wouldn't do anything over the top for a girl you're not dating. If this is some chick you want to meet, drop the magic and just go up and talk to her, and DON'T do it on Valentine's Day.

Kevin - February 2, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
Word up, Raoul.

At the end of the day, it's you, and not what you do. Don't put on the masks to get the girl... take them off instead. In fact, take it ALL off! MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH~~~~~~~~~~~~blubblub.

Mabas - February 2, 2005 02:28 PM (GMT)
I don't really think making chocolates or a rose appear over the top. I find it okay. But each to his own. :) Thanks for the advice. Anyone else got suggestions/advice?
Thanks

Daryl - February 2, 2005 03:07 PM (GMT)
Valentines day is not a day to get desperate. Do your magic as you would to anyone.

If you dont have a date..screw it. Girls arent everything. Get some spine bois.

-edit- MABAS.. if you're really in love..and i Mean REALLY.. ignore this shit. its only for despos.

exohordon - February 2, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
Girls ain't everything but they sure sum up to alot of things.

Do a napkin rose.

and if u wanna be corny
do elevator 2 and say u make me high gal.

illusionist - February 2, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)
I don't think you can forseen yujie lol... My gf is very special lol so need really good mental to know wat I am giving her for V-day lol.. Only Ning abd edwin know lol... :D

CLJ - February 2, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)
Usually, when you perform, all the focus lies on you. On Valentine's Day, you shouldn't you be putting the focus on your partner instead of bombarding her with even more magic? On V. Day, the top priority is your girlfriend, and making her THE most important and special thing of the day - it's your obligation to do so. Performing David Regal's "Sudden Deck" except with an empty chocolate box, pulling out 500 different kinds of roses from every single pocket and closing your night with a Disappearing Bra comes to me as being plain STUPID. Well, maybe not that last one.

Either all of what I said, or I'm just really really sore on missing out on all this. I guess it kinda works both ways.

Hmmm...what if the girl you are trying to get lucky with IS a magician herself?

*Looks meaningfully at Ning*

Winder - February 2, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
I have something LONG ... something HARD for you as a Valentine day gift ... Let me show you *POOF*

*Produce Magic Wand*

Anyway bring some bandage, i think she will break your head with it. Hahaha ~

..............Har har har. Funny you (Happy) Bunny <_<

Seriously, for V-Day, a little magic would be nice but too much will just be an overkill. Some girls like "cheesy" stuff actually - how many girls actually have been given a floating rose/ flash paper to real rose/ valentines' rose before?

If she isn't a "flower" fan (some girls aren't, trust me) it's simple gestures like sending her back home to her doorstep after a late movie/ dinner/ night at the beach/ etc that would be more meaningful rather than just stopping at producing a box of chocolates from nowhere or paying for dinner ;)

Ask the rest of the the SMC grrls ^_^

Really Ning? Can I take you to a movie followed by candlight pinic dinner at the beach on the 14th? I will prepare and make the dinner myself and fill it with love and yummy surprises B)

And i promise to send you right home to your doorstep as well ^_^

Oh really... I don't mind lor, but seriously your boyfriend might not appreciate a menage trois on Valentines Day... so I'll have to make it a pass ;) I'm giving tuition that evening, seriously! Twit...

Anyways... let's not get too off track... back to Mabas' original question please!!! :off:

Aloy - February 3, 2005 04:32 AM (GMT)
Bluerabbit, you are too much...........

.............how can you jump queue like that??!! You know how many guys queuing to ask Ning for V-Day date? Please take a number and wait your turn.

:off: :off: :off:

Ning - February 3, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)

Ha. Very lame and fun. I might be bringing some bandages then. Haha. :D Anyway, a hint of magic on V-Day like an appearing rose I don't think is overkill. It's not like I'll be doing a 2hour magic special for her on how many different ways I can appear a rose or chocolates. Ha. Anyway, I think I agree with CLJ "Day, the top priority is your girlfriend, and making her THE most important and special thing of the day ". So with that in mind, anyone got any ideas on how to involve a girl in an effect to make her the star of the show? (That is of course if I don't make a rose appear for her.)
Thanks For The Replys So Far

Chris my man... it should b everyday B)

Ning & BluRabbit... i think should discuss games-of-3 somewhere else ;) there're kids here can?! like myself

Whatever you decide to do... DON'T:

Give her a 50-carat diamond ring and let her try it on for size...

...THEN MAKE IT VANISH.

BuaYa - February 3, 2005 09:59 AM (GMT)
Just go learn some really REALLY mushy lines. It works. I wonder why.

tygnehc123 - February 3, 2005 12:27 PM (GMT)
MABAS!! TELL me who that dreamlover of urs is!! i tot u very guai one.. didnt know u like somebody also haha    .. anyway.. my hair is standing.. Get firestarter in penguinmagic la.. heehe.. dun say its lame hoh.. really its good.. u can get ideas from there.. although u can see thru the tricks.. the tricks are very simple.. sure u all also know... but the good thing is the idea..

OR u may wanna learn how to make paper roses from me.. :P :P .. super nice one.. i gave jq during christmas... she nearly cried! haha.. i made for daanesh during his departure..u nv see.. :off: :off: :off: but by doing this.. it clearly shows ur sincerity!! ok..

Mabas - February 3, 2005 12:49 PM (GMT)
So let me get this straight. A guai person can't like a person. So therefore they would never fall in love and hence never get married. If that is true, I think the world would be facing a global shortage baby problem. Anyway back to topic, a paper rose will either tell that you are sincere or that you had no time to buy a real rose for her. That is what I feel. But hey! We are magicians. Add a little flame, and POOH! It became Koko Crunch! HAHA. :P Seriously, it should change into a rose. Anyway, Tygenic, I don't really want to do a lot of magic. Just a short one. I don't want to do too much magic. Not a 30min special on magic. :) Just something, short, sweet, thoughtful and impactful. The rose idea might be good. I'm still thinking how to change the method of paper rose to rose thing to fit in school due to the angle, and such what nots. :)

tygnehc123 - February 3, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
err.. my paper rose is sth like dat.. go check this out www.bloom4ever.com

illusionist - February 3, 2005 01:53 PM (GMT)
How about paper rose to a Ferrero Rocher rose lol if you really wan to do magic lah.. Get a rose that can be eaten and sweet ... Hope this help a little.. :D

Mabas - February 3, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
That's a not bad idea.

Aloy - February 3, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
So many great ideas, and I can think of so much more...torned card restored to v-day card, torned and restored napkin with heart-shaped hole with matching piece found in girl's handbag....etc etc...It's gonna be great!....
....all I have to do now is find a date :ph43r:
