Title: Online Shops For Poker Decks?

ezpeace - January 25, 2009 06:48 AM (GMT)
Is there any reliable local online shops that i can buy poker decks from?

i looked thru the forum and found this.

http://www.magicboutique.sg/

Or can anyone here recommend me others that u guys usually get from?

Kazekage - February 14, 2009 12:51 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Magic Boutique.
I used to buy my cards at GL, but since USPC started reproducing their air-cushioned Aladdins, I just get them from 7-Elevens.
Personally love Aladdins over Bikes.

Are there any brands of decks you are looking at ? Tally-ho , alladins , bikes ?

lawaquarius - May 26, 2009 06:42 AM (GMT)
I googled and searched on yahoo for poker card dealers and found a few blogs doing it. But their products are very limited and most of them are carrying only bicycle decks. By the way, i'm looking for such online shop too as i've been peforming only with special decks from bbm, t11 and ellusionist. I used to buy them from Magichall, but stopped supporting them due to the piracy issue i saw here. :)

You can go search the web for other magic shops.

Mod's note: Post edited. We don't want to support shops that are not honest.

Hi MODs, do we have a list of shops that are not honest? By the way, i thought it's ok to post this under magic dealers reviews? Or is it that card dealers isn't under that category?

I believe since it's a review, it only qualified if you have experienced it yourself. Then i think it's ok to post such things.

In other words, this is not a place to ask where & where etc. :P

I don't know though, you may have to confirm with the mods first ;)

Hi MODS, not to be rude, but how do you judge honest and not honest? Also how do your define have experience before?

Magicdow - June 19, 2009 02:15 AM (GMT)
Not to be rude too. We have been around long enough to know.

muscleaxl - June 19, 2009 03:05 AM (GMT)
Just like if you have been doing morning marketing long enough, you would know where are the good stalls.

chrislzh - June 27, 2009 06:28 AM (GMT)
hi.. I just started learning magic and would like to know where can I get bicycle cards? Any shops to recommend for me to get them asap. Need them for practising.

qureyoon - June 27, 2009 06:53 AM (GMT)
Bicycle decks did not make you a better magician. You don't have to use one to start shuffling or anything.

If you want prestige, there's way more decks that are better quality and higher price than bicycle.

But then again, someday, someone may have handed you his/her crappy deck, and you can't do anything

lawaquarius - June 27, 2009 10:15 AM (GMT)
Yup, a deck of bicycle cards won't make you a magician. But it will assist you to create miracles with a gaff deck. :)

o0oKIRAo0o - June 27, 2009 12:37 PM (GMT)
yup, bicycle decks like its 808 red/blue can allow you to use the gaff deck or the ultragaff decks a long with some other gimmicks.

Have pm you a online shop that i have get all my bicycle decks at super cheap price and very reliable.

chrislzh - June 28, 2009 04:10 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the advise. Just want to get used to the feel of the bicycle decks since most of the magicians used them, and some special cards are made from them. Thanks for all the recommendations of sites. :)

o0oKIRAo0o - June 28, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
no problem bro, glad to help out. well you can think over which bicycle deck to use, some example are:

ghost
rider 808
pastal
shadow master
vintage 1800
black tiger
tally ho
rider 808 master edition by ellusionist
black ghost

if its not bicycle, there massa or other company like theory11, big blind media, ellusionist which produce their own custom bicycle decks.

AdrianLee - June 28, 2009 03:24 PM (GMT)
No need to think so much.

If you are using Bicycles for the reasons you stated earlier, the only one you should be considering is the normal rider back 808 and none of those fancy decks.

That what i thought earlier as well, but when i finally move on to decks like ghost and others, i dont seems to get the smoothness well.

So i thought someone is starting, why not just start with a deck that is nice, fancy and you like it. You just need to pay abit more then normal rider that all. And you can save the trouble to re adapting to the new smoothness.

This is just my 2 cents worth.

To each his own, but later when you start getting questions/comments that your deck is very 'special' and 'far from normal' and you want to switch back to normal rider backs, you wish you hadn't spent all that money on the fancy decks. If you haven't gotten any such comments yet, don't worry, you either have not performed enough, or you haven't performed enough to audiences outside of magicians and your family and friends. There must be a reason why most performing magicians use normal rider backs right?

Handling wise, they are all smooth straight out of the pack. How long they remain smooth depends on many factors, of which many are environmental (humidity, temperature, hand conditions, storage, etc.) and not so much of quality difference (referring to USPCC made cards).

Economically, it also makes more sense to use normal rider backs, be it for the decks themselves or for the replacement of the special cards.

Especially for newcomers, it is best to stick with normal rider backs until you know what's best for yourself.

Trust me, just use a normal bike... all my "special" decks are now languishing in the deepest corner of my drawer. They are too expensive for me to use for practice, yet too impractical to use in performance.

Eg:
You can't use a black deck to do effects like "Out of this World", even for those with red pips

Or it takes a bit of effort for audience to register the identity of a card in their mind and sometimes, the impact of a effect could be affected in that moment of confusion for the audience.

Even if you are using a Ghost Deck....

Anyway, Bikes are very easy to get here. Just go to any dealers here, or any major magic shops you might know. Or ChanZiAn, if he still have stocks left.

The average price for one is $4.50. Don't get it more than that. But if you can get it less than that... pls inform us. :D

o0oKIRAo0o - June 30, 2009 12:35 PM (GMT)
well there a blogshop where i get my rider at $4 and ghost at $9. I have been getting from him for quite awhile.

Have pm you the link, feel free to check him out. he also carry uncut sheet at super cheap price.

well i felt even though its abit more expensive, its still worth it to use ghost as it look stylish as compared to a normal rider. i actually plan to use anglo deck as you dont see people on the street using those.

=Gambit= - June 30, 2009 01:03 PM (GMT)
Just use a normal Red/blue bike deck to perfom, sometimes when you use those stylish decks to perform some of the audience will think that you are using a gimmick deck to perform although you are not.

muscleaxl - July 1, 2009 04:56 AM (GMT)
I think we have a topic similar to this buried somewhere in the card section.

I'm too lazy to search it out, but in it we were talking about the pros and cons of "special decks". Maybe you can go check it out if interested.

Thanks Kira for your PM, I have received it. :)

Anyway, just to share some opinions.

1. Yes, the special cards are more sylish, but you are paying a lot for style.

It doesn't make much economic sense to pay so much for it when the focus should be your magic instead.

Unless the special cards greatly enhances the impact of your effects, I would say it is not a good tradeoff.

But you are quite rich and do not mind spending to boost the economy, then by all means...

2. It is easy and cheaper to find gaffs for normal bikes. Again, it makes economic sense.

And don't we realize most of the famous magicians uses normal bikes too? Except when they are appearing in advert selling the "special decks", you might never find them using them.

The money you saved from the decks could be channelled into buying quality DVDs, better props or on good books. That would have a bigger impact for your magic "career", so to speak, than any special deck can.

Anyway, why would anybody need a uncut sheet?

=Gambit= - July 1, 2009 04:40 PM (GMT)
Uncut sheet for display in your room walls?

o0oKIRAo0o - July 2, 2009 06:19 AM (GMT)
well will check out that tread if i have time. gambit uncut sheets for you to use as toilet paper :P well for me i plan to get a uncut for my empty wall to frame up. and when that deck is out of production then i can sell at high price ($)^($)

well actually just for collection...

=Gambit= - July 2, 2009 07:20 AM (GMT)
