Title: Scamming, Unethical Cheat?
Description: Some guy at bugis selling talisments
AlexWong - February 3, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
Hi hi....
If you ever walk to simlim sq from bugis MRT, you will walk pass this area where people set up stores to sell stuff. Its near the hawker center beyond bugis village.
There's actually an old man, who is usually selling some sort of talisments who is there on weekends. Well, So far I've only seen him on weekends.
Now, I recognise some of the things he does to be magic tricks. But he uses it to convince people of his powers.... well... sometimes I could laugh.
For example onces he had a fake bug, it placed it on what looks like an alluminuim pole. And on his command he bug moves up. But when he wants it to, it can stop. Strange how he can't command it to move down eh?? :P
But inspite of this old man's unethical acts, I must say he does have good showmanship.
If you guys are free, and walking around the area. And you see a group of people gathering to watch an old man do things, perhaps you might want to stop by and see what's up. :)

He says that he is always that on the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month. He aslo said that the bug on the pole is just a trick.
Normall, he does a few tricks which is quite baffling.
E.g., making salted fish swim (only a few are able to see as he covered the bowl with cloth).
Killing goldfish by smashing it on the floor and then make it alive again (again a few can see).
Swallowing goldfish and producing it from a coconut.
If you've not seen it, go and have a look but be prepared to waste a lot of time hearing him talk about his stuff.

Hey...those are actually quite interesting plots
I wonder if only a few can see the result it may be more of a stooge thing than a real effect. Nonetheless, it's interesting plots that we can explore B)
Coconuts, that's really adding a local flavour to impossible location. Interesting....now let's think about how we can get a card or a coin or a ring in there ;)

Stooge job!!!! :D
Maybe we should have an informal gathering for this 'magic show' and see uncle do his infamous fish to coconut routine... we can learn a thing or two about showmanship from uncle, like what Alex said...
It's common i guess, for old chinese folks to resort to this form of er, "entertainment"... at least he didn't have the typical gong and acrobatic feats :P Most likely, old folks are wiser now, compared to kampung days... they wouldn't quite believe his "powers". Inquisitive people just gather to watch the free show
Still, it seems very interesting... ;)

I've seen it a few times but never till the end. Cannot tahan the pitching. Anyway, I don't really know his MO but I guess he really kill the goldfish and swallow some live ones.

Talk about sacrificing for the art
Swallowing live goldfishes. He must need to eat a lot of bananas B)

I believe only a few can see because he puts it in a box. And i believe he does this because he uses IT to move the stuff. Just my opinion. I mean, why use stooges when you can don't?

haha... Perhaps we can organise one gathering on a day we know he's there. ^_^

YES!! i saw his act .. scam!!!! he puts the gold fish in his mouth then claims that he can pass it thru the coconut .. i think he either swollow the gold fish or hid it somewhere in the black cloth which he uses to cover. the "bug and pole" works as the same theory as raising card frm deck .. the one blaine did in his street magic.. i hate that old man!!
