Title: Help On Name Of The Trick.

VisualShoxx - February 7, 2009 03:41 PM (GMT)
Was watching zhong yi da ge da just now on channel u and there is this magician who did a mentalism trick with NINE cards.

The routine goes something like this. Firstly, spectator was freely given to choose nine cards then paste them using the 3 by 3 method. The spectator then choose a card out of the nine cards without letting the magician know what card he has chosen. For example, he choose 4 diamond. The spectator will then start to count from 4 while the magician will then randomly point at the cards. Spectator will say stop when he count till 20 and the magician will be pointing at the spectator's card.

Personally feel that this is a rather cool mentalism trick thus would like to know the name of the trick. Anyone who is familiar with this trick can advise me on that?

Help will be much appreciated =D

If you got the video of it, it does help much.

But for your info, if this effect is done by Lu Chen, 90% of the time, he reconstructed the effect himself and present it a different way, making it hard to know what the effect is.

And also, the information you provide is not detailed enough, is the cards face down or up? How freely is the cards chosen? Any shuffles beforehand?

Alot of factors will affect what the effect is.

So maybe you can provide a link and we take a look.

wow! What is the name of that effect with the 9 cards?

Was browsing through all the zhongyi magic and saw this:
Magic

I saw Pete Firman doing it on Secret world of magic and was really intrigued by it. Would appreciate if anyone give me a heads up on this!

And this ACAAN is really quite crazy :
ACAAN

And this Roulette effect is really quite insane :

Anyone got any heads up on all these effects? I think partly because the magician really knows how to build it up

Why is everyone asking for the names of effects suddenly..

It doesn't seem to me to be a mental effect at all, but just a mathematical puzzle.

A better mental effect is U.F. Grant's "Slate of Mind" or any of its variations, the latest of which is called "Evolutionary Slate of Mind." It does not require a slate, although the slate is traditionally part of the effect (thus the name, Slate of Mind). You can substitute a small whiteboard or even a notepad if you prefer to update it.

The spectator can choose from several different decks of cards, each having a different back, OR can even use his own deck if he happened to bring one. Six to eight cards are removed from the shuffled deck at random places by the spectator. Meanwhile, the mentalist makes a prediction on the slate/whiteboard/notepad.

The cards chosen are arranged around the slate(etc.) and another spectator randomly chooses one of the six to eight cards. That card is placed someplace special (in the original effect, there was a special strap on the slate for the chosen card, but it can be placed in a glass or someplace else to isolate it, if you choose). The other cards that were NOT selected are shown to be all different and returned to the deck. The written prediction, which you remind everyone was made before any of the cards were selected, is now shown to match the one card chosen.

It's on my site together with a complete history of the effect begining with versions from the 1940's and up to the present day, about 12 different versions in all.
