Hope its alright that im asking this. For those who don't think its a good question or that the type of coin doesn't matter, this is for my personal interest. To me, it matters.

In Real Secrets of magic Vol.1 if im not wrong, he used the walking liberty coin. I wanted to clarify if anyone can comfirm this. Because it looked slightly bigger than the half dollars. But after doing some research, its actually the same.

In Real Secrets of magic Vol. 2, when he was teaching coin productions(particularlly his Sinclair production) he used another coin. Im very sure that wasn't the half dollars we usually use. If im not wrong he did ue the Eisenhower dollar. But for the rest of his routines, did he use that as well? Or isit just for that production?

What kind of coins do you use? I know everyone have half dollars, so besides that any thing else?

i'm pretty sure he used uncirculated Morgan dollars.

I think it's really personal preference and the "requirements" of the effect.

- You can use halfs or SG 50C as long as you like it.
- If you doing 3 fly, maybe bigger coins would be better for the audience to see.

Hi Wei Liang,

Again, a good topic. The type of coins definitely matters as all coins differ in weight, size, edges and appearance. As for the coins used by David Stone in his Real Secrets of Magic, I can't recall exactly but based on the trailer I see on youtube, it does look like Eisenhower dollar as it looks much bigger than Kenndy Halfs. I'll have to watch the video again to confirm the actual coin he used. As for Liberty coins, they are actually very slightly smaller than Kennedy halfs. I've compared them physically before. Weight wise I can't really remember.

Ultimately, any coin can be used for magic as long as it's manageable and justifiable. Manageable in the sense that the size is one that's comfortable for you to execute the sleights competently. Justifiable in the sense that there is a motivation in using the particular coin. For example, many spectators would ask why we use Half Dollars and not Singapore coins. My motivation is always structured within my patter and I always let them inspect either before or after the effect so they're convinced that they are not trick coins.

For me, I use Kennedy halfs most of the time. Occasionally I would use English Pennies or Chinese Coins, depending on the routine. The size of Kennedy is just nice for my hands as I can execute all the sleights and subtleties effectively using them. In fact I actually would prefer to use Morgans as they are bigger which makes it more visual. Plus they are easier for Edge work but I can't CP more than 2 without flashing so a bit limited here. Probably I need more practice to make my hands accustom to them. Kennedys and Morgans are the most commonly used coins as the accompanying G**** for them are easily available.

Other coins I've seen used are, US Quarters, US Peace Dollar, Australian 20cent or 50cent, Malaysian 50cent, Old Singapore 50cent or $1 and Euro coins and last but not least, arcade tokens. So Wei Liang are you still using arcade tokens to perform?

Cheers
Jerome

Go to Lassen, and any coin you want, you can have.

Probably more useful if you tell us what you want to do with the coins, and we can recommend the suitable coins. I think there are a million reasons why you should use normal kennedy half and not use kennedy 1964 halves, or use barber halves and not ben franklin halves. They all serve different purpose and mean different things to different magicians.

:off: Jerome, are you sure you did not compare the dean dill walking liberties to normal kennedy halves? hehe

At the moment, im just exploring everything david stone does. As mentioned, its for personal interest. Nothing more nothing less. Just hoping to know the type of coins magicians usually use. Especially since there might just be some coins out there that can be more "accepted" locally than half dollars.

Firstly, thanks for making the effort to reply my topics. Pardon me for not being very clear everytime and most of the time people don't quite know how to reply. But it so happens that you pretty much provide me with the right info.

I just checked out the coins. Walking liberty is smaller, and heavier at the same time! Now im curious why is David Stone using it. But i must say it is one of the nicer looking coins i have ever seen. (On the side note, I used to collect coins as well)

I have been using the half dollars for maybe a few weeks by now. ^_^ Everyone seems to encourage that. The only problem is that i can no longer do a decent muscle pass. The only explaination i can come up with and the only one i manage to experiement with a few "subjects" is that when u can pass a smaller coin, you probably can pass a larger coin higher. When u can pass a larger coin, your pass with a smaller coin probably gets lower.

I realised that quite a few moves requires one to use a half dollar. For example the Torres Move that doesn't quite work as well with light coins, and some steals that'd be easier with a larger one.

Once again, thanks for taking the time out to reply.
