Title: Smc Session 3/09 (it's Over)
Description: Reviews and Comments

Dear all,

Thank you to all of you that made your way down to Toa Payoh yesterday, in spite of the weather. We know delifrance isn't the best place to conduct such sessions, but it surely is convenient for everyone.

Also, good job to everyone who prepared something to perform. I would say everyone did an excellent job, having the guts to come forward and get abused by other magicians.

But really, many ideas were shared yesterday, some interesting, others more practical. But it was good that everyone came with an open mind, willing to accept criticism together with compliments. Not many people can do that.

Overall, the quality of the magic yesterday was very high, and the quality of the ideas that were shared was very high too. I hope that everyone who came down took something home with them, and actually learned something, however small, from yesterday's session. I hope this will somewhat encourage those who were hestitant to come for the next session. I look forward to seeing all of you the next time round.

Firstly I must admit that I wasn't prepared for the Session, and as a result I did not benefit as much as I should have if I had went prepared (Lesson Learnt!).

Although it was a small group (Jlowhy, Itachi, MagicaLobo, Timothy, plus Shade and some of the mods), the small size facilitated a focused and in-depth session with good participation from everyone.

There was good exchange of fresh and innovative ideas, concepts and insights on presentation, techniques, sleights, effect/routine structuring during the discussions after every performance. Of course it was not all serious and stern, and there were lots of laughter and jokes being shared as well.

I'm sure everyone who was present took something back with them from the Session. I know I sure did!

Perhaps we can hear from the rest who went down for the Session yesterday on their reflections and of course, we always welcome feedback on how to improve the Session so that everyone can benefit even more.

It was really a very productive session, personally i felt that the greatest benefit i took home with me yesterday was rather that which was intangible. The invaluable feedback, honest opinions coupled with uninhibited criticisms would have otherwise been impossible in other situations. I must mention that the informal context on which it was held truely facilitated the exchange of ideas.

Kudos to Jlowhy, MagicaLobo, Tim, Shade, Adrian, ZiAn, UncleBob and everyone else that was present. Deeply appreciate all the aid i received.
I will definitely work hard on getting over this "passing phase" i'm in and get myself better read. Really embarrassed for my ignorance.

In all, I feel really fortunate to be part of this session and being able to learn from like-minded friends who share the passion for the art.
Definately looking forward to a subsequent session. :)

I really enjoyed the session yesterday. I felt that it was a great platform to test out new material as well as work in progress without worrying about the consequences of failing. The feedback I got was valuable.

I'll be excited for the next session. Having many heads tackling a single effect/routine definitely beats just working on it alone and the input comes from various perspectives too. Also, watching others in action benefitted me in observing the good and poor points of others. Lastly, thinking on how to improve the effects of others inevitably hones one's understanding towards structuring and presenting an effect.

All these benefits are great enough to keep me coming over and over again. And I think that the sessions will also be an incentive and motivation to push forth my progress with magic.

Thanks to SMC for the Session!

Really looking forward to the next session.
Count me in, as I have a lot of effects I would like to share with you guys.
Will be needing lots of advices and suggestions on them.

I would strongly encourage those who are really have the passion for Magic to attend the SMC Gathering.

The Mods have spent their afternoon helping out new comers by brainstorming on how to have a better way of doing a effect.

The Mods are all doing for the love of magic because they have to buy at least a drink at Delifrance from their pockets.

It will be a loss not to attend.

Well i guess i should've checked this site more often as i missed this, but would LOVE to make it to the next. Been here for quite a while and still do not know any singaporean magicians but would love to make some friends and actually talk magic with some people. G/f getting bored with it lol!
I hope i get to know when the next meeting will be, can't wait!
hope i get to meet you guys soon!

Hey everyone,

Just adding my note to the list of accolades. First - a big thank you to those who took the time and effort to make your way down. I hope everyone gained something from the trip and it was worth your while.

Since there's such a small group, it was certainly very easy to get everyone involved. And the spontanaiety of those who attended was highly commendable - EVERYONE chipped into the process and it was such a fascinating session!

Just a few notes on the sessioning magicians:

1) MagicalLobo - Though the effect you showcased at the session was interesting (I won't go into details here) I felt it was a tad beneath your standard. In truth I feel that your handling with a deck of cards is truly slick; I think you were a little shy and still held back somewhat, but you got the chops - I hope to see more of your work!

2) Itachi - LOL: you sure made your mark that day! :) I hope you got we managed to kick the living passes out of your daylights... (hmm... that sounded all wrong). Still, I must say I am always gratified to see you attend all our sessions in truly high spirits. You make it worth our while to conduct such sessions. Thanks for your inexhaustible support bro.

3) TimothyLim - One word: Extreme! :) You always seem to be able to find new things to do with old moves. Though not always practical, your perseverance and determination to push the envelope is inspiring! For those of you who were absent to watch Tim perform his XCT (Xtreme Curry Turnover) move, you missed out on a great deal. Imagine performing a switch of a card on the table and having the switched out card automatically reversed into the CENTRE of the packet in ONE action of turning the card over on the table! Ok - don't bother to imagine it. Just ask Tim to show you the next time you see him.

4) Jlowhy - As always, you come with material worthy of study. It's good to see you do your homework and then come into a session and simply tune up the level of everyone's magic. Your insights and ideas are valuable; you make great observations and I appreciate your honesty. It's great to have had you with us!

5) Zian - Nice rendition of the Crossing. I got to stop doing that trick now that everyone is doing it.

6) AdrianLee - COME PREPARED next time. :) Thought you could get away with it eh? Hahaha.

7) JeromeFang - It just wasn't your day bro - dont' worry, you'll get it down next time! But seriously, the FIRST penetration was SO REAL!

8) Axl - You made yourself vanish real fast - I wish I had time to work with you on those Loops. :P

9) Uncle Bob - Thanks for coming by to entertain TBMIS. He'd be so bored without you to take him on. The rest of us were just not at his standard! haha.

And a great thank you to the Mods - you guys make SMC the place to be. Next time we bill Aloy for the drinks and the snacks. HAHA.

Eh... my apologies for that day. Need to meet the in-laws.

Next time, I definitely will contribute something.

Wah lau... Missed YET another meeting?!?!

Sianz man... What the hell.

Maddened - April 1, 2009 03:45 PM (GMT)
Eh that's it lah. I may not always be able to check the forums so is there any other way for me to know about the SMC gatherings? Or are you all purposely ostracizing me? :( :(

Jlowhy - April 1, 2009 06:13 PM (GMT)
Huh Maddened, more like you purposely ostracize SMC by not checking the forums. =P

Haven't seen you in a while!

Maddened - April 2, 2009 12:10 AM (GMT)
Hmm yes I guess you can say that too. So yes I guess it's my own fault. Sobz... I deserve a scolding from Shade man...

Yea haven't seen you since... IBM night? That's long man...

OK won't hijack this thread. I will now religiously check the forums for the next gathering.

*waves hello to Shade, dry_gin and others*

jeromefang - April 2, 2009 12:51 PM (GMT)
Yo... Maddened. It's been a long time man. The last time I saw you was New Year's Eve man... Guess you must be busy at work. Come for our next gathering, it'll be great to see some mentalism performances.

Take care bro, catch up with you soon... :D

Cheers
Jerome
