Title: Nash's Stuff

muscleaxl - April 4, 2009 04:36 AM (GMT)
Am thinking of getting some new DVDs to satisfy my magic craving.

Anyway, heard from many people that Martin Nash is a pretty decent card magician ( :P ), so I was thinking of getting his Charming Cheat DVD. So any reviews for this or is there a better one that you might recommend?

Hi TBMIS.

If you are into advanced card work and know about Nash, get his The Very Best Of Martin A Nash in 3 volumes. He has also 7 dvds to his name. Check out www.mymagic.com for more details.

According to the magic industry, his is one of the best card workers in the world. He published 3 books but are out of print. They the best magic books I have read all my life.

I would also strongly recommend Darwin Ortiz's 10 dvds, follow by the 9 dvds on "Stars Of Magic Series" where Paul Harris has 2 dvds. Worth paying for them.

I am from the old school of magic and feel they are much much better in term of ideas and routines than the latest available in the market.

Wa, too much for me at one go.

What's Nash's most "beginner" stuff? Maybe I would get that first.

Sorry my dear friend. Nash's stuff is on advanced card work.

Suggest you buy the 5 volumes of dvds, Royal Road To Card Magic by Paul Wilson; if reading makes you fall asleep. ha....

You should also try to get the 8 volumes of Expert At The Card Table by Alan Ackerman.

It is always good to go back to the basics to refresh yourself. You will realize soon you have missed out many other possibilities that can be applied to your magic.

Learning good magic is a long process.

No problem, I'm a pretty advanced cardman, I can do a second deal. :P

I think I would get his charming cheat dvd to take a look first. Thanks for the info, Uncle Bob.

For Nash's work, you must at least know a perfect Faro besides the Greek Deal and so forth.

Enjoy your magic TBMIS.

Hi TBMIS,

Sounds like you want to be the next Charming cheat. Charming TBMIS does sound good haha.. In any case, Martin A Nash is more than a decent cardman. He's really one of the best around. His work with the Table Faro is phenomenal.

The Charming Cheat DVD is good but I don't think it's sufficient if you really want to learn his work. As Uncle Bob has mentioned, his Charming Cheat DVD series and Very Best of Series is much better. Otherwise, you can take a look at the Ultimate Card Sessions Dvd Series. Vol 1 has a couple of rountines by Martin A Nash and there are many other great Card magicans inside the dvd too. Worth checking it out.

Cheers
Jerome

Just a question on Nash's stuff again...

What are we expected to know beforehand?

As in, for some advanced videos, we are expected to know what's a pass, what's a DL or CP etc... as they would not be teaching those inside them.

I own a copy of nash's stuff. Darwin's and Michael Vincent's too.

The thing about all these advance cardworker's DVD, true, they probably expect you to know most of the basics of card work before teaching their variations of a move or something (i.e. DL, Pass, P**m etc.). Which is rather hard for a novice to pick up their stuff. Might take a whole lotta replays and slow mo' for you to catch what's going on.

I recommend reading up on this great book, Card College series for all the basic moves. Martin's work also require a whole lot of practice and patience.
