BuaYa - February 6, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Do all flourishers powder their deck? Cos i can't get a farking fan down after half a year without a powdered deck. Am I just not talented or issit a given fact that we should powder the damn decks??

Pertaining to your question, I think it's a combination of those two. lols.. Although i don't powder my decks at all, i just hiberate them in a icy air-conditioned room for a few days. Then it should be okay already. Or just new ones if you want. B)
I feel disorientated using powdered decks, feels so alien...

Hey J, not all flourishers powder thier deck. For example, De'vo doesnt powder but Jerry powders HELL ALOT. It really depends on what flourish move youre doing. For me, i carry 2 decks. One obviously powdered and the other not powdered.
So if someone ask me to show them smth like the erm flipback fan? id use the powder deck for sure and yeah.
With powder, u can definately fan much much much much better. (even tho the fans that appear on the powder bottle sucks alot, bad avertisement) Are u not talented? oh man. ive seen your shit and you are talented man.

In my opinion, powdered decks are not good for magic sleights. And it takes a while getting used to the powdery feeling. But its all worth it to pull of perfect fans.
Here's the link to Jerry The Flourishman giving a lil advice on powder and stuff. Useful stuff and worth the read.
POWDA'One more thing, powdered decks dont go well with sweaty palms.

heheh yeah.... i powder my deck often too... esp on my alladins the non ac ones. they are tough cards. i also powder my other AC cards like bikes and tally. but now my tally is really sticky and brown on the sides... so i put that aside already. its been powdered like 4-5 times... time to move on. rite now im practicing on my leagues.... super nice. at the starting it feels like sh** ,so plasticky kinda feeling but at a while is like so nice. still smooth. i might have to powder is maybe in a monnths time.. see how. all in all yeah i do recommend to get fanning powder. they so just superb!
retsevlys - February 6, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
One thing, dont powder leagues. Just let it run its course and it'll work like a powdered deck after a few months. eat that! no shit!
[Ling] - February 7, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
Yeah leagues are pretty slick...
Daren - February 7, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
yea.. leagues are good for fans... i've a league tat is 6 months old(which is considered very old for me) and it still fans properly.. but.. after being give the sweaty palm by one of me frenz... they dun fan as well anymore.. haiz...

I use a lot of powder. Some people may see powdering as a form of cheating but i don't think so. It's the same theory as tellin someone that's using Bikes, instead of any other XXX brand cards, that he's cheating because of the extra air-cusion finish on them.
Read Jerry's post on powda. It's the best so far.
BuaYa - February 12, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
Anonewho says powdering is cheating, must be a purist, just like those 'gimmicks are bad for magic' bastards.
Nicholas - February 12, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
what methods do u guys use to powder?
Winder - February 12, 2005 04:41 PM (GMT)
Spring or Waterfall into the bag and do the shake which Jeff mcbride taught us. Hahahaha ~
Nicholas - February 12, 2005 04:50 PM (GMT)
hahaha he looks very cute when he shakes that bag ahahahhaha really the music and the face and the action HAHAHAHAHAHHHAH
:P
Winder - February 13, 2005 07:59 AM (GMT)

yeah... that's the way he taught us.. but he also taught us the quick method.... and also saves the amount of powder needed, which is to pour a bit of powder on the sides of the deck and then rub and riffle them (the cards)together. cheap and effective method. i use it all the time.
Winder - February 13, 2005 01:11 PM (GMT)
Yea.. but overall i prefer to use the latin shaking method which is very nice to begin with. Hahaha you get to learn how to SHAKE your bag. :X Not your bon bon, hahaha ~

don't really understand what you're asking there
for whoever started this thread (i don't recall anymore) i'd like to share the fact that karen mastered a thumb fan in like a day... whereas i took like a month to really get it down. some things that i were not doing right were, maybe, make sure you're using all of your fingers and not just trying solely your thumb. also, the position of the thumb holding the deck of cards makes a lot of difference in the way the fan looks... try holding more out to one edge or the other and letting the cards sort of pivot naturally (bc they will fan). another thing was that i was trying to do it with old decks, so as soon as i tried with a brand new one it worked reallllly well. whenever i open i new deck the first things i do are fan a couple of times and faro/fan 8 times (because for some reason, the resetting the deck thing really fascinates me).
unless you're talking about pressure fans or one handed fans? i just assumed thumb...
j.shurtz - February 20, 2005 06:58 AM (GMT)
and for some reason my post won't let me edit... but also how hard you hold the deck in your left hand will affect the fan
Desmond - February 20, 2005 11:22 AM (GMT)
will the powder wear out
Mystical2004 - February 20, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
definitely... after a while... but re-powdering the decks too many times will spoil the deck...
