Title: Second Thoughts On The Second Deal - The Workshop
Description: 20 June, 6pm@Ulu Pandan CC, #05-05

AdrianLee - June 3, 2009 03:06 AM (GMT)
Six months have passed since the debut of Second Thoughts on the Second Deal by none other than our very own Shade...

Click here for Reviews for Second Thoughts on the Second Deal DVD by Shade

As a bonus to all who have purchased the DVD, or those who are planning to purchase the DVD, Shade has generously agreed to conduct a workshop based on his DVD Second Thoughts on the Second Deal.

What better way to validate your hard work and those sleepless nights of practising the Second Deal while playing the DVD to and fro over and over again than meeting the man himself and clarifying your doubts and queries?

Content of the Workshop:

- The content of the workshop will largely be based on the Second Thoughts on the Second Deal DVD
- Shade will be going through the techniques of the Second Deal live in person
- Following which Shade will go through selected effects using the Second Deal so that you can apply and practise what you have learnt

Can't wait to find out more about the details of this workshop?

Date: 20th June 2009 (Saturday)

Time: Registration and arrive by 1800 hrs (6 pm), workshop will start at 1815 hrs (6.15pm) SHARP, expected to end around 2130 hrs (9.30pm) latest.

Venue: Ulu Pandan Community Club (near Buona Vista MRT) #05-05

Workshop Fee:
For those who own the DVD, token fee of $10 (including catered refreshments). Please bring along your copy of the DVD (or the serial number slip inside the box) as proof of purchase. You can get Shade to sign your copy of the DVD too!

For those who do not own the DVD, token fee of $20 (including catered refreshments). You will be entitled to purchase the DVD at a special price at the end of the workshop!

Payment will be made at the door, so please bring cash and we greatly appreciate if you can give the exact change.

Shade is opening up 10 slots for SMC members (excluding Mods) for the Workshop. The workshop size is kept small so as to maximise interaction and facilitate instruction.

Please copy and fill in the list below to indicate your interest in attending the workshop. It's all in good faith that you will turn up if you put your name down (after all, payment is made at the door), as you will be depriving others of a slot if you do a no-show on the day itself.

Is this event only for SMC members? can SMC members bring a friend? And will this be open to people outside of SMC or is the event only limited to 10 participants?

Hi guys,

I just want to clear up a few issues:

1) This is NOT a lecture. It is a workshop on the second deal.

I am more focused on what and how you can learn the second as opposed to delivering effects for you to perform. Most lectures are structured in such a way that you end up leaving without learning anything - the intention for this workshop is that you DO leave with a viable skill.

If you purchased the DVD earlier, this will extend what you have learnt. If you haven't got the DVD, it's ok - but I will only touch on about 10% of the material on the Discs to be fair to those who have bought it.

2) SMALL class size and attendees

This is open ONLY to:

a ) SMC members
b ) people who purchased the DVD
c ) IBM members

I am hoping to keep the TOTAL number of attendees below 15 (including MODs) to create a conducive learning environment.

SMC members may bring a friend but please be mindful of who you bring - this is not a workshop for beginners and there is no time for me to teach basic controls or false shuffles. You should be in possession of the following skills before attendance:

a ) Basic card controls
b ) False Cuts
c ) False Shuffles
d ) multiple Lifts
e ) Pass / Half pass (optional but helps)
f ) a simple multiple shift (optional but helps)

If you wish to attend just for knowledge, you attend at your own risk. :P

3) What is covered in the workshop:

METHODS/SLEIGHTS:
a ) The 'Shade' strike second (SSS - lol... just could not resist):
This is my favourite version when it comes to dealing seconds - fast, reliable and almost instant get ready. There is no unnatural 'screwing' of the deck into the hand as you prepare to deal. And it can be honed to a hairline of a brief (the left hand barely moves - your audience will swear it's impossible!).

b ) A basic push off second:
There won't be enough time to do a detailed tutorial for the advanced push off. This will get most people started and able to perform an easy push off second deal. (It's only good for 1 deal though. Well - everything has a tradeoff)

c ) Fiddler of the Cull:
Highly efficient cull that can be used to replace the Underspread. It is fast and reliable in the context of a magic effect.

d ) Applications:
Exploration of the various techniques and ideas in discussion. This includes various ideas on switches, predictions, emergencies (in case you f**k it up) and even productions.

EFFECTS:
1) Face up Selections
A pseudo centre deal demonstration that uses the selections.

2) ACMI : A Case of Mistaken Identity
Another natural selection process that leads to a simple surprise ending.

3) Royal Duplex
My version of the Royal Road's "Rapid Transit"

4) The Slayer

5) Colours on the March (Performance only)

There is a lot of content; we intend to start on time, so do not turn up late! :)

Hi all, this session is drawing closer as it is happening this Saturday, 20 June. This is to call for any last takers and there are 3 more slots left. Registration will close very soon so don't miss your chance to attend this special lecture.

For those who have put ur name on the list, would you be so kind to confirm your attendance. If you are unable to make it, I would appreciate it if you could remove your name and let someone else have the chance to put their name on the list.

Here's a rough look at how things will be running on Saturday:

1800 hrs - Arrival at Ulu Pandan CC and refreshments/mingling
1830 hrs - Start of Performance segment of workshop
1900 hrs - Start of Explanation & Hands-on segment of workshop
2015 hrs - Break (refreshments are what's left from start of workshop)
2030 hrs - Continuation of workshop
2115 hrs - End of workshop and packing up
2130 hrs - Good night and see you again

Just to make it clear now, refreshments are provided at the start of the workshop during the arrival and registration portion while everyone can mingle around and get to know one another. The refreshments during the mid-workshop break is based on what's left from before, so don't complain why there isn't another set of refreshments because we want to keep the costs low for everyone attending. Now that's another incentive to arrive early/on-time for the workshop.

See you there on Saturday!
