I'm new here. Need some advice on making a slight modification to a trick I learnt.

Here's the routine (is this what you guys call it?):

Performer shuffles a deck of cards and fans them out face down for the observer to select a card. Observer picks a card, looks at it, memorizes and returns it face down into the deck which has been squared up again by the performer. With a quick movement of the hands, the performer then places the deck back onto the table. Cards are seen to be face down. But then the deck is spread across the table, the selected card is the only one that is shown face up.

The key to this trick that was mentioned in the lesson was to XXXXXtXy XXvXXXX the XXXXoX card of the deck and XXiX the deck while the observer is memorising the card. After the observer's card is inserted into the deck, the performer will need to square up the deck neatly and then with some quick movement of the hands, XXiX the deck again but this time, to XXXp the XXXXoX card by XXXXXXXt so that he can XXXX it and put it into the deck normally, thus setting right the XXXXXtXy XXvXXXXd card.

If this step is not done, the performer may cock up and let the cat out of the bag should the spread on the table not be done properly.

So, my question is, other than having to XXXp the XXXXoX card by XXXXXXXt, is there a better way of setting it right? Bearing in mind this has to be done all very closeup with the observer being able to see the performer's every move.

I'm guessing you are talking about the inversion plot.

The method you've outlined is extremely convoluted. There are better and more direct ways to accomplish the same thing. Just got to look around.
