Title: Singapore Bills

MagicalLobo - July 14, 2009 02:54 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knows whether is it against the law to destroy Singapore bills or print them?

From my knowledge I know that if you indicate specimen on the printing then it is not considered an offence, am I right?

muscleaxl - July 15, 2009 05:03 AM (GMT)
Yes, it is an offence.

But why print Singapore notes and put "specimen" across? Why not just simply use fake notes? Since in any case, your spectators would know the notes are not real.

What is your purpose of using money bills? If your purpose involves the audience being more 'involved' because it is $$, then printing the specimen words will cause a lose of that effect. If it doesn't involve that, then it doesn't matter, you could use monopoly bills or any replacement.

If you're still thinking of 'involvement' with that piece of paper, perhaps you could put some thinking into it and change it so that audience is aware of the importance of the paper in somewhere - a cert? something important to you? a letter perhaps of great significance?

Edit:

PS. I do realise that the second para may be a bit off topic here, since this is posted under Money and Coin magic, but that's just an afterthought following my first para.

Ya.. It is a serious offence to cut or write on the bill. If you are serious of using bill to do some tricks, y not choose those tricks that does not destroy any bill. eg: bill switch etc. You can do anythings but dont get caught.. haha..

I think many of us here do cut, draw and stuff on money. But so far nothing happen. So the ultimate point here is, do anything you want but just don't get caught. :P

If there is a word speciment or smple on it then it is ok

ervz, i don't think there's a point here in mentioning a speciment or sample bill :)

I am just answering his first post. What no point? You mean no point answering the question?

Personally, I dont think you would be able to pull out a speciment bill. Even if you print it off your printer, the effect is very much dimished. Comparatively, should you like to use specimen bill, as a matter of fact, any other currency would suffice.

Hi!

Maybe instead of practicing using bills that have specimen on it, why don't just cut out newspaper in the

shape of a note and start using it to tear or crush or write etc. I mean, its not an offense to just cut out the

newspaper and do what ever you want.

Anyway just my opinion.

In other countries, is it an offense to tear their notes? Because, if it is not, we can use other country bills like Brunei. After all, Brunei and Singapore money is 1:1 and everyone is familiar with it.

muscleaxl - March 19, 2010 10:48 AM (GMT)
Again.. why would anybody want to tear up money that we can use? Make no economic sense just for an effect.

How about print your own money? US Bills but with your face on it... I'm sure there are programs for that.

Instead of bills , why not use coin ? There could be much more way to do tricks using coin or if you want to like sign a signature on the bill so as to allow the audience to know that it the one and only bill why not just ask them to take note of the bill number (do not know what its called) .

I don't think there a need to print or destroy bills

:off:

Eh.. there are quite a bit of difference between using bills and coins.

Definitely agreeing on this.

Wouldn't imagine doing extreme burn with coins. Hmm.. Haha

Lol you are right

Yesterday I saw a tv show which invovle the using of fake dollar notes and scrape it , even tv use it and is allow to be publish thus is it not wrong of it ?
I wonder ... <_<

My experience is to use US dollar notes, you can purchase 1 dollar US notes from money changers. They will give you a "HUH!?!?" look, but they'll have it anyway.

I prefer to use genuine notes as using notes with "specimen" on it seemed quite uncool to me. Haha. And although using Singapore notes is something that will be more aligned with the audience than US notes, one advantage of US notes is that they do not have this layer of plastic on them.

Which brings me to the next point that for some dollar magic, it will be better if the dollar note can fold better. For a Singapore dollar note, they cant fold as well due to the thin coating of plastic on them.

And if the audience do ask the reasons why I am using USD, I will say I do not want to use local notes to avoid getting into trouble with the authorities. :)
