Title: Diy Haunted Deck?
harlequin2902 - July 15, 2009 03:16 AM (GMT)
Has anyone tried to DIY the stuff needed to do the Haunted Deck effect?
i.e the effect where the selected card is replaced into the deck, then performer places the deck onto the ground, stands or crouches over it and then uses the shadow of his hands to seperate the selected card from the deck and pull it out.
Or is this effect only possible with the commercially made gimmick?
thx

Which version of Haunted Deck are you talking about? There are many different versions with different gimmicks and non-gimmicked.

It can be done while a few common stuffs every magician should have. :)

I suppose you are asking for the "commercial" version that the shops are selling.
Well yes, you can certainly DIY that, but IMO, it is not worth the effort as I think Haunted Deck is not a practical effect. If you know the machanics of the deck, you would know what I'm talking about.
I saw another version performed by a certain demonstrator in a certain local shop that uses only 1 "extra" stuff and the deck is examinable at the end, but the set up itself is not practical.
When I say impratical, I meant it does not go well with the kind of clothing I usually wear. Again, you would know what I mean if you have the deck.
Of else, you can try using l**ps. Any deck, any time. This is, IMO, the best option.
The only ungimmicked version I know is the one by Daniel Garcia in his Project Vol 2 (I think) called Motion. You can check that out if you want.

There is a very practical version of the haunted deck on the Stephen Tucker's Whiplash DVD. Uses a very clever gimmick, but requires table. Uses no IT or l**ps
Derren Brown has published an impromptu haunted pack as well. Its the first phase of his 3 card routine.

does anyone have any idea where can I get that piece of stuff that is used for Stephen Tucker's gimmick. Been shopping high and low in DIY shops for it but no avail.
trying to create own gimmick

Yes, to answer your question, it's definately possible to DIY the gimmick for the haunted deck you describe, that effect is known as Spook by Nicholas Einhorn. The gimmick can be made in many ways as long as you are creative.
And as said there's many other version. Stephen Tucker's for one.. another simple gimmick is the Haunted pack effect by Jamie Daws, very very simple gimmick, can be made in 5 seconds.. and another tip you can also make it with wire.

I have the DVD called Scared by Jamie Dawes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE20m-QhWo0Its a simple concept, and I am quite happy with it. And a very fast set up too, and it can end clean, depending on your handling. Hope this helps you :)

i'm also thinking of a way to make my own Haunted Deck . i think using IT is still the best cause it give u the control u need.

Lets find one day, meetup together and DIY haunted deck, haunted bill.. haha.. Personally, i think L**** can be use for haunted deck with practise so that you can totally control the L*** without fail. :)

i'm thinking of combine the l***p and with itr so that can have more control and more style.
wkc - September 28, 2011 04:35 PM (GMT)
It is not easy to combine l***s and IT for haunted deck. Last time, i use to use L***s offen and I personally dislike to use IT as i think that L***s is more convincing as your hand can move quite a distant from haunted deck. It can also float a single card, float objects.

yes i agree:) i just want to explore difference ways to make it better. the l**p u using is the original or u DIY by "linking"?
wkc - September 29, 2011 04:51 AM (GMT)
I bought the original L***s from Yigal Mesika & DIY it to my own, comfortable handling. I been using it since fews years back until now. It is the best gimmick which can be use for almost any light object eg spectacles.

oh ok. I'm now working with IT. I'm going to DIY my own l**p soon. may i know is the Vectra Elastic (3VE) good enough?
wkc - September 29, 2011 09:18 AM (GMT)
I never try Vectra elastic before. I always use Yigal Mesika elastic thread. It work fine with me for many performing without .................... :) Have you compare the quality of Vectra thread? Is it by Steve Fearson?
yukito - September 29, 2011 01:10 PM (GMT)
