GUIDELINES:

Dressing
Please dress appropriately. It will be hot so I don't expect everyone to turn up in a coat / vest, but it would reflect well on you if you wear something that would distinguish you from the laymen.

A good guideline would be basic dress pants, dress shoes and a shirt + tie. Tee-shirt and Jeans/bermudas and slippers/sandals are NOT appropriate. (DUH - common sense... but I had to mention it anyway.)

Objectives
I checked with the organisers if we needed to work any messages/subtext into our magic and they said it's not necessary - our primary objective is simply to entertain the crowd, so just go right OUT there and have a good time with the audience! :0D

Deployment
Do stick to your area of deployment on the day itself - we want to let the organisers know that we are covering as much ground as we can and cannot afford to "CLUSTER" together. So spend just enough time with a group of people and spread out and avoid your fellow magicians - if you see somebody working a particular crowd, walk the other direction and look for new game! Aside from being less productive if you were to entertain the SAME group and in the same area, it is also poor magical etiquette.

DO NOT HAVE YOUR OWN GATHERING - in some past events, some of the magicians actually started to session with each other and ignored the crowd! While the event was not a charity and they were not earning a fee from their participation, it's still VERY VERY bad form and it reflects extremely poorly on us as a whole. Actually, to come to think of it - it's even worse: if you commit to a charity event, you make a mockery of it if you take it lightly.

Conduct
BE NICE and RESPECTFUL to the audience! Sure - there're going to be a few nasty nuts to crack, but I believe everyone has handled a tough cookie before. If things get too rough, or if you feel that a particular audience member is disrespecting you and your art, you can stop performing, thank them and then walk away. Don't get into a mud slinging competition or war of words with them. Be the gentleman and walk away.

Oh and SMILE LOTS! :)

Always conduct yourself with dignity and humilty... ;) You'll find that the audience will generally respond much better to that than if you were to play the role of 'Zeus the "WORSHIP ME OR GET A ZAP UP YOUR @RS#" ThunderGod'.

Be impartial in your audience selection. Nothing is more obvious and sleazy than a magician who keeps hitting on only a particular group of people (read: GIRLS). And obvious as this might sound, KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF. NEVER lay your hand on another person unless it's somebody you are familiar with (maybe a friend of yours who came by to support you). A number of years back, we had a complain from the organiser that a member of the public was highly offended at one of our members who was a little too free and unnecessarily touchy with the ladies.

Conclusion
Don't worry - I'm sure you'll all be excellent and have a fantastic time. I'm just running through the motions out of habit I guess. LOL. I'll be there for all 3 shifts, so just call me if you have any questions or run into any 'technical' problems. :)

Would technical mean something like a Faro?

I'm thinking of doing a Faro effect, will call you when i need you to do that sleight for me. =)

Shade - July 29, 2009 09:39 AM (GMT)
Alex: LOL... I doubt you'll need me to help you with that. You're more than capable of handling your own.

I think i have a problem because the formal shirt, pants and shoes that i have, if i were to wear those, i would be looking more like a businessman than a magician because those formal clothes that i have is used for job interviews/school presentations.

Eagle - July 29, 2009 12:05 PM (GMT)
What exactly is the event for again?

Wear jeans and sneakers or other shoes you have besides those black leather business shoes. It will make you look casual.

Alternatively, you can wear a t-shirt with a coat instead of a shirt and tie.

We cannot be too casual looking or formal like but at least smartly presentable.

Hi Alistair,
you can find out more about the Se-ed project from
http://forums.singaporemagiccircle.com/ind...showtopic=11673 or
http://se-edproject.org/event/

I am thinking of doing a in Faro effect, one that uses 52 in faros and accomplishes nothing. Will call you to help after i perform the first 2. Heard you are really fast and accurate with faros. Thanks Alistair.

What's up with the lame jokes? haha. All your fault Alex, starting this faro thing.

Anyway it's a pity as i will be out of the country and cannot join you guys on that day. Hope you all have fun. Break a leg if you have to.

Hi all, I am okay with the shift 3 timing. (Shade, Please ignore my previous pm, sorry).

Does the event supply us with inflatable balloons and pump?

Shade - August 1, 2009 01:11 AM (GMT)
Hey HeartAceJoker,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier; I've been a little busy. But you can come for shift 2 if you like...

Balloons are provided (though they didn't say how many) but do bring your own pump.

I'll see all of you at your shifts when you arrive; you need to sign in at the registration booth, so please don't be late for your shift! Come about 15 - 20minutes earlier!
