Title: The Subway Session - A Workshop On The Bottom Deal
Description: 5 September 09, Ulu Pandan CC, #05-05
AdrianLee - August 16, 2009 02:54 PM (GMT)
Hot on the heels of Second Thoughts on the Second Deal DVD and The Workshop comes another highly anticipated session by our very own cardshark, Shade.
Click here for reviews on The DVDClick here for reviews on The WorkshopBefore I even start explaining about The Subway Session, here's a little teaser video to whet up your magic appetite:
The Subway Session - Official TrailerOK, now that you've seen the wonders that can be done with the Bottom Deal, perhaps it's apt for me to go into the details of The Subway Session - A Workshop on the Bottom Deal.
Technically, Bottom Dealing simply means dealing cards from the bottom of the deck instead of from the top of the deck. Sounds simple enough right? Sadly, what is SIMPLE is not necessarily EASY. In fact, if you think the Second Deal was tough, wait till you try your hands on the Bottom Deal.
In this workshop, Shade will be sharing his insights on the Bottom Deal and going through the techniques to not only execute the move, but to execute it well. (No point doing a secret move that is blatant enough to be seen)
As seen in the teaser video trailer, Shade will be going through some applications for the Bottom Deal, other than just for dealing. This elevates the Bottom Deal to beyond a Deal, but a utility move. Of course we don't expect everyone to leave the Workshop as an expert Bottom Dealer, but to leave with the invaluable knowledge of the techniques and nuances involved in executing a good Bottom Deal.
Enough of the publicity talk, here's the details of the workshop:

Shade is opening up 15 slots for SMC members (excluding Mods) for the Workshop. The workshop size is kept small so as to maximise interaction and facilitate instruction.
Please copy and fill in the list below to indicate your interest in attending the workshop. It's all in good faith that you will turn up if you put your name down (after all, payment is made at the door), as you will be depriving others of a slot if you do a no-show on the day itself.

Hey Sean, you do not need to have any prior knowledge of the bottom deal to attend this workshop. However, you do need to be proficient with card in order to learn it efficiently. I think you will have no problem. Do come join us if you can!

Ah~ Speaking of that, i would seriously love to join u guys that day but i am having some class gathering on that day which i promised my class i would go a few weeks back. So probably i will have to skip the session this time round. =/
But anyway, hope to see you guys soon!
Shade - August 18, 2009 12:33 PM (GMT)
Hey guys,
I need to make a few changes to the details as this is meant to be as small a class as possible... it's the first time I'm doing a session on the Bottom Deal, so I want to make sure it's as productive as I can make it.
The places are limited to TEN places as I have opened up the rest to IBM.
MODs who are interested in joining DO need to sign up so we can keep a running tally and we keep the numbers manageable.

The structure of the workshop will be very similar to the previous one - my focus however is to teach the bottom deal and hence the effects I have selected are meant to demonstrate the versatile power of the deal, so don't expect too much in terms of effects - they are there to help you have a good time practising it.
Anyway, I will be covering the following during this session:
1) Subways - the push off bottom deal: this version - as far as I can tell - is fresh (always like subway sandwiches) and is not in print or media. It is an adaptation of the gambler's bottom deal that I favour. It has all the advantages of that deal and you'll agree once you know it that it has virtually no real weakness (except for the need to practice... haha).
2) 4-5 effects (depending on time) - each showcasing an aspect of the bottom deal in a different light. Each strong enough to stand on its own as an effect you'd want to use over and over.
3) Practice tips - how to practice/ when to practice.
4) Tells - There are various tells that give away the bottom deal: I'll try to cover as many as I can and some simple methods to control them, from finger flash to noise control.
5) Some shuffle controls you can use with the bottom deal
6) Shifts / palms that you will find useful with the bottom deal
***
I will provide notes for the session of course.
It's alot to cover in a 3 hour slot. Try to make sure you arrive on time! :) And please, if you put your name down, make sure you turn up!
If you have any questions, do post them here. I'll try my best to answer them.

As the post stated, Ulu Pandan CC is near buono vista mrt so i am wondering if its a walkable distance to the CC or need to take a bus as i am very unsure with the location of the place.
Any kind soul can help? Answers will be much appreciated~! :D
AdrianLee - August 29, 2009 05:00 PM (GMT)
It's less than 10 minutes walk from Buona Vista MRT.
After you exit the MRT station, UPCC is in the general direction of your LEFT. Just follow the road leading in to Ghim Moh and you won't miss it.
