Title: Magic at 7Eleven
kryptikalism - February 7, 2005 11:26 PM (GMT)
hey
these guys are also marketing basic effects.
i saw their stuff in 7-11.
they have a limited range, like prof's nightmare, sponge to square, some paddle and ball and vase. they seem to be rather pricey though. the sponges cost 7.90.
have any of you people seen them?
TheMaestro - February 8, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
I have, in fact I've bought one of them - the colour changing silks.
These are indeed basic effects and the props are not top quality but quite usable I guess. I got the colour changing silks for $7 and think it's quite worth it.

Found a section at Tiong Bahru MRT branch :)
GordonLi - February 9, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
many 7-11 stores carry gician & LP products.
but i dont really like the way LP package their tricks (eg. multiplying balls in clear plastic!).
yujie - February 9, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
sigh.......7-11 selling magic tricks....... :(
Ning - February 11, 2005 09:48 AM (GMT)
Oops... just made a post in the Presto Magic thread... yeah I was getting some CNY candies for grandma on the weekend when I popped by the Yishun Golden Village cinema 7-11.
Was in the Q at the cashier when I realised Lawrence & Prisilla had theirown rack retailing magic items... very much like Gician's but more expensive... their packing could use some work and their pricing wasn't that cheap tho. I think Gician has more variety... and his stuff are cheaper too!
His sponge bunny sets are less than $4 while L&P's sponge ball-square set is double that! Like I said earlier... seems like they've jumped onto the bandwagon too...*sian*
rh89 - February 11, 2005 09:55 AM (GMT)
yeah.. i saw those tricks just now.
i was also at tiong bahru mrt..
their multiplying balls packaging kinda exposes the gimmick.
Ning - February 11, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
Not just for multiplying balls, EVERYTHING is packaged in clear plastic wrap! <_<
AhLiShuFi - April 29, 2005 11:17 AM (GMT)
yarh... the fact they make these items availably in this "cheaper" form really saddens me. Months ago, i performed the pen thru bill effect to my cousin n niece. and of cos, they were all stunned. it looked n sounded sooo real. btw, i used the B2-bomber. it cost me like USD20+ bought thru penguinmagic. (din realise then that i can get it cheaper thru the dealers in singapore...) anw, not long after that. i met up with this niece of mine at my grandma's place n she told me if i can do the pen thru bill effect again. i said next time cos the fact is i din bring my pen with me then. but then, she continued to tell me that actually she knew abt the secret alreadi. she knew it involves the use of m*g**ts n she saw the pen being sold at 7-11 at SGD9.90!!! i was shocked. worst was that, she din buy it but yet knew the secret to it. i was puzzled then...
A gentle remainder here: Please have some self-censorship. Thank you. ;)
Mabas - April 29, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
Aren't you exposing how it works right here Ahlisufi?
GordonLi - April 29, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
someone probably exposed the secret to her, as u are doing to everyone here as well... (although u got it wrong, not fishing i hope?)
either that, or maybe it was possible to tell through poor packaging?
or, i know some ppl who might try to use such tactics to fish for answers.
"I know its A" if the magi answer yes, u got it! if not, u may be left with the other possibility.
Magicdow - April 29, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
Magnets? What magnets? Pen thru don't use m*****s, they use a different gimmick.
BTW, I know what I'm talking about. I own about 5 different types of pen thru. ;)
R_jayz - April 29, 2005 01:47 PM (GMT)
7-11 selling sponge balls? Damn! People everywhere would know the secret, sad....
Magic is being exposed like never before...
GordonLi - April 29, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
i wouldnt think its called exposure, but rather the over-commercialisation of magic (cos ppl pay for it). not that i like having more ppl knowing secrets, but its just supply and demand and its inevitable.
hopefully the magic craze (i wud think its started by david blaine) would die down soon and hopefully ppl will think that magic is hard to learn... :)
MiloKing - May 3, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
hi..i guess im the only person here to speak up for LP...the tricks dat they do are mostly props/stage magic..not many are close up..i've been in pastor lawrence'schurch for years..practically since i was born..we never knew he had magic until recently..he has been using the magic of love for gospel magic...i know the packaging is a bit TOO clear..and it certainly gives away the trick..the quality isnt good...and the ppice is high..but it all goes to either funding the magic of love OR to Touch community services...as charity work..rest assured TCS accounts and funds are closely monitored by the government and mrs goh chok tong is the patron..TCS is involved in A LOT of different services..i grew up in a senior activity centre..and i sumtimes go down to silent club and centre for intellectually disabled..i plead wif u to forgive LP for producing its products and selling it at such a high cost.

LOL....wah...too serious MiloKing B)
No apology needed whatsoever here. Pricing of magic items is always very subjective, too high and people feel it's not worrth it, too low and people say it's cheapening magic. There's no way to please anyone with that :)
Hope you don't think the people are "attacking" L&P Magic there, those are just some initial reactions and responses from general hobbists public. Just some of us airing their opinions and feedback, no offence intended whatsoever.
If you noticed that not a lot of people were participating in this thread so it means most people are quite neutural or positive about it.
Just need that cleared up there :)
Cheers
MiloKing - May 3, 2005 07:21 AM (GMT)

all magician frist magic to be learn is to learn how to learn and what to learn. B)
2nd magic to be learn is to learn to be creative. B) B)

personalli i feel they got cheated by 7-11, cos they gotthem to help publicize events like de IF magic 05,
and get them to sell the products as well, but 7-11 took the 'apportunity' to sell the other stuffs...
ya. i think they know about the packaging and are trying to sell away the old products first..
ya not eassy selling props...
Hanz716 - August 1, 2005 12:21 PM (GMT)
Well,i would oso like to speak up for LP..They are professional magicians that has performed shows in many gateway cities and even the States!!In fact, he n his daughter has been invited to perform in the National Day Parade Countdown on 8th August 2005..interested ppl can PM me..
i believe he has a reason for doin the packaging like tis. I can comfirmed that he is one which do not expose magic. He has even came up with Magic Ten Commandments in his project SMILE Class. The reason y he do his packaging tis way might be because he wants to trigger the interest in Youths?? There is definately a reason y he does that..btw, anyone bought LP products b fore?
M.A.D. - August 2, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
:P me.....for the project smile class 2
nyx - August 2, 2005 03:16 AM (GMT)
keep calm dudes~~ like the posts on magic in libraries, i made a similar comment.
Like all exposed magic media in libraries, unscrupulous shops which sells secrets only, websites and "lawrence & priscilla" products here, layman just take a look and then forget.
As far as i know, they don't particularly catch you and say "hey you did blah blah blah..". Unless they are kids of course. -points to AhLiShuFi-
just be a lil versatile and loose in your performance and it'll be fins
Hanz716 - August 2, 2005 08:13 AM (GMT)

BlUeCoWz - September 7, 2005 04:15 AM (GMT)

bigbadwolf - December 14, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
You have just dug a 2 year old thread. If you want to chalk up your post count, try not to do it so obvious?

just curious.
feifei - February 28, 2008 04:44 AM (GMT)
I don't know what LP or Gician.. but this is interesting.. i am going to my nearest 7-11 to check it out this evening.. never walked in to 7-11 cos things are usually a wee more expensive there compare to other shops.
