Edwardjb - September 7, 2009 04:02 AM (GMT)
Yesterday i went to Seranggon North Ave 1 intend to buy some dove for my dove act.

When i reached there, i saw alot of bird shop there and thinks that i may easily to get some dove from any shop here.

But end up, one of the shop owner told me:
selling white dove in Sigapore is ILLEGAL

It's really shocked me with the answer!!!
He continue told me that goverment was stop them from selling white dove.

I am wondering:

1. Is it really that singpore goverment stopping those bird shop from selling white dove?

2. IF selling white dove illegal, but how about magician who have own some dove at thier home?

3. If case like this, is it mean that all magician can not perform dove act in singapore? (selling and owning is illegal)

I am here is to ask from anyone can tell me is it the bird shop owner telling the true?
if this is no the true, can anyone share with me where can i get white dove for my stage act?

I don't have the exact answers but from what I know, it's illegal to bring in doves into singapore without having done all the necessary medical certification and everything.

White doves are not local breed in general, unless someone home breed them, well then that's different. In the current context, especially after bird flu a couple of years back, it's very difficult to get your hands on white doves in singapore. So, having said that, you can save your time by stop visiting bird shops to find white doves. Go ask around instead magicians who might have doves that they wish to sell off.

I just sold off a couple of my doves some time back, so I'm sure there are others who are also selling off theirs.

It seems that recently, quite a number of people want to get into dove magic. My advise is to think about it very carefully first before deciding whether or not to go into this direction. You must have love for animals above all things. If you currently don't have much time to spare on a daily basis, then you can just forget about going into dove magic. You need to spend at the very least 1hour each day to feed, clean, take care and train the doves. Don't expect dove magic to be something self working.

Personally, I prefer to work with rabbits instead. Rabbits make a fun pet at home too. I have 2 rabbits at home and 2 doves left. Rabbits are much easier to work with and they can be toilet trained. Doves do their "business" as and when they want. You'll get your props, your costume, your client's home dirty. I think alot of people don't realise the problems when doing magic with animals. So, I hope this little bit of sharing will make you understand what you are really going into. So, don't be disheartened if you can't get your hands on doves. It's not the end of your magic journey.

Cheers.
