Hey everyone,
To begin, let me introduce myself. My name is Troy and I'm currently studying at Hwa Chong Institution (High School). I really do have a profound interest and love for magic tricks, in particular, card tricks. I've been performing tricks, mainly for family and friends at gatherings for lets say, 3 years or so.
I do spend a significant amount of time on youtube and other websites learning some new tricks and I have never actually had anyone teach or train me before. But, nonetheless, there is a limit to what I can actually learn on my own from youtube, so I hope that through this forum, perhaps I can get to know more.
Hope to have a good time knowing everyone!
Regards,
Troy
Hi Tryo,
Firstly, welcome to our humble forums!
I would seriously recommend you not to learn from youtubes and other sites but learn from the direct source that the effect originated from. It is the very least you can do to show respect for something you love.
*Well, than again, it is just my two humble cents*
There are regular gatherings so please look out for them and if you can make it during any of the gatherings, it will be great if you can come! Enjoy the forums and your stay here with us!
Cheers!

I actually read your post on the newbie section before reading this... so you've answered the question I posted over there.
Anyway, yt is a bad place to learn, seriously.
Those people putting up "tutorials" are generally people who've never perform a single trick to real people in their life (there are probably exceptions, but rare), and the only way they can feel like a great magician is to try to teach stuff that they can't even do well.
So not the most ideal source to learn.
I had a layman friend, who after seeing my 2CM, went to the site to learn it. But when he tried to show it to me the next time, well, it was horrible. The method is wrong and no presentation to talk about.
So spend some money on books or DVDs... and enjoy yourself.
Yeah I kind of figured that out after watching several videos...
I'll probably get some books to refer to instead. I'm only watching videos now of other people's performances and seeing if I can figure out how they do it. So yep. Thanks for the advice!
