This really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to have a start in coin magic, I recommend you take a look at the following link which has a review of 3 different coin magic dvds suited for beginners: David Roth, Michael Ammar and David Stone.

The review is written by Dan Watkins.

I own the Roth set and I feel that the teaching is very good and clear. I also enjoy the routines within but they tend to require the performer to be seated rather than standing although one could always adapt the routine.

I believe that all the 3 magicians have very different performing styles and thus, this will also be reflected in the choice of tricks/routines that they will be teaching. Choosing one out of the three is usually a matter of preference on which performer's style you prefer more.

I think the review Jlowhy provided is already a wonderful source but still here is what I think:

If you are just interested in knowing what coin magic is about go for Michael Ammar's Coin Intro. It provides you the basics of coin magic with simple and hard hitting tricks you can do with a few sleights. And perhaps I should point out that most of the routines can be both seated and stand up.

Tricks : coin to key, coin through trousers, a simple flurry (you can see from the context of the dvd)

If you are committed to learning Coin Magic, get David Roth's set, it takes you from beginner to advanced with many sleights covered and routines ultilising very basic coin magic principles.

Tricks: wild coin, winged silver, chink-a-chink (once more, refer to the context of the dvd set)

As of David Stone, I feel ashamed that I cannot comment on it because I do not own it yet.

Jlowhy, thanks for pointing out Dan's review, I have not seen it before. Very comprehensive!

For starters, Michael Ammar's Intro to coin would really give an overview of how to get started in coin. Not alot focus placed on tricks, but it should help get your techniques right

Hi!

I've read the comparison, and i think the David Roth Expert Coin Magic Made Easy is a DVD of my choice. But

I heard people commenting on the seated routines. Anyone knows the routines that can be done standing?

Expert Coin magic is the way to go. I second that.

But don't be fooled to think that the effects on it can be easily done in a few days. Theres a basic coin sleight that takes many months (I took about 3 months) to master.

I believe majority of the routine can be transposed to a stand up performance.

Even if the routines cannot be done standing, the set will give you a good foundation and knowledge of coin magic. Equipped with this foundation, I'll say that you're pretty much able to do many things in coin magic. However, as with what Alexander has said, foundations take a long time and requires dedicated work.

That said, the number of effects in Roth's is tremendous and it's unlikely that anyone will learn all of it. You definitely will have a selection of a few tricks that you will prefer and that will suit you.
