Alright. I don't usually come up with smart topics. And I don't mean to.
When I first started learning magic tricks from dvds and stuff, I took the time out to meet up with different magicians as well. By far, only a handful does a paid job with their skills.
Many hobbyist would want to get paid for doing what they love to. While some just aren't too enthusiastic about heading out there.
I'm a frog in a well. From how I see it, there aren't many young magicians out there with a good start. I could be wrong. There could be teens way below their twenties earning a living out of this trade whom I haven met.
Having said that I'm certainly not one of them.
I often try to offer myself to others, and just perform when I get the chance to. Fortunately I've been meeting really nice people who take interest in what I do. But such opportunities don't come by too often. Haven been performing in a week!
I've been hearing this from many hobbyist. Geeks who are dying to perform but without the chance.
What do you have to say to them?
P.S. I've heard many comments about how difficult or impractical it may be to turn pro with magic. But many just want an opportunity to practice and experience the interaction.
Attach to yourself to a charity organization and let them know that you got the ability to perform magic and entertain people.
Then time to time, you will have chance to perform for people.
As for performing for money, for living. The sad true is, people look at how well you can do your job and the level you can carry yourself.
Its easy to say that you can perform to people, but can you deliver what the client wanted? Entertainment is not hard, but being able to penetrate to the people is the hardest.
And as this trade is about entertainment, there are better options out there for entertainment like hot girls dancing, jugglers, etc.
So if you wish to become pro, you have to go out of your zone and do what people like to see, not what you like to perform.
2 cents worth.
