Title: Sleeving Techniques

LoyaLover - December 10, 2009 01:36 AM (GMT)
Lately I saw a professional magician who does a slightly different form of coin work compared to myself.

Basically it was used as an opener. Nothing more to a vanish and reproduction. Its simple, quick, straight forward, and I guess alot of show off.

Having said that, he did it to perfection. Can't expect any less from the pros.

I never went for sleeving because I found it rather impractical. But these days I often find myself in blazers and pretty well dressed during performances. I guess it would actually work for me with some practice.

It has always been easier to learn from videos than books for me. By far, I have seen a few videos on the technique, but none that goes into details about how large the sleeves should be or which position should you execute the move.

If there are any professional magicians out here who does sleeving on a regular, I'd be more than glad to hear your fair share of experience with this.

Read Bobo, period.

The most comphrensive guide compared to videos.

Let me guess, must be your attachment right? LOL

Sometimes, the simplest and the most classic stuffs that we no longer care or think about does the best effects. Try the raven man. I'm sure you have "attractable" coins and the classic ravens aint that expensive, especially if you can use it all the time. Its still very amazing how the coin vanishes when looking at the performance despite knowing how its done, its so magical. Cant imagine what's it like for the spectators.

And bro, we gotta meet up soon man!

Thanks for the recommendation. Every serious coin worker recommends Bobo. Maybe ill be one of the only serious coin worker who doesn't use one.

Alexander: I have heard 2-3 people complimenting on your coin work. Would love to look at your full routine soon! Would you be performing it at the flyer? Muahaha, free publicity.

Qureyoon: Thanks mate. I have seen that dvd. It is pretty much based on ONE SINGLE move eh. Its a pity that I sold it already because at that time it wasn't practical for me. Guess I should try to find it again!

Personally, I have a couple of complains about that move though. It may "look" good, but somehow its too technical. Let me explain.

The usual sleeving I've seen thus far executes the move without people actually noticing that the coin is gone already. It usually involves a false transfer before the actual sleeving.

However, for Brian Platt's Catapult!, it happens in your face. I think its not as good as the usual sleeving method.

Having said that, it is a disc that does touch on the different outfits and sleeve space required. Shall look it up! Thanks again!

DTJK: YOU ALWAYS SAY SAY SAY MEET UP! SAY ONLYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

hahaha. Personally I prefer gimmickless complete vanishes. Raven would be too much hassle for the set up/reset. And as you know, I don't like to use coins other than the very "UNIQUE" set i own. LOL.

Yup, it's The Catapult move, one of the many techniques in Bobo's. You can try to look it up ^_^

You can modify it so that it will happen when you closed your fist, and turning it.

Just like when you do false transfer or retention vanish.

It's up to you whether you want it in the face or not ^_^

On another note: Justin Miller's Silver Dream have some nice touches on sleeving too if i remember correctly.

Anyway, get Bobo's, and lookup the whole chapter devoted to sleeving ;)

2-3 only?! Haha, just kidding. Its a very straight forward handling of coins across.

Anyway, thanks for asking.

I will be performing on the 15, 16, 17 of Dec, at 5 and 8, 8pm, and 8pm respectively.

Do say hi!

=)
