Title: Matches!
Description: The burning kind.

Mabas - February 10, 2005 10:20 AM (GMT)
I've been searching around trying to find a way to use a match instead of a lighter. I want to use it one-handed. After a while, I found something called "Match Pull". Anybody knows whether it is a good investment and aslo where I can get this in Singapore?
Thanks.

i don't get it, can you rephrase your question? What are you trying to do?
:P

I'm guessing you want to do a one-handed production of a lit match.

That's basically what a match pull does. The gimmick for it is pretty straightforward, but the ones you get in Singapore are basically made in India versions. Surprisingly, the ones I saw in Canada and New York (Tannen's) was also the Made-In-India version.

Because of this, the lifespan of one is pretty limited. Also, you do not get a lit match all the time, which is pretty embarrassing during a performance.

I've heard there are some well-made ones by a magician in the states but I can't remember who it was. Maybe someone else here has more information on that.

Ahhh...i see....Mabas is still thinking about his V-Day trick.... B)
I have made some match pulls before but they are not 100% sure-fire. Make sure you have a lighter around just in case it doesn't work out. Could be rather awkward....

I just tried makin one. Seems to be working okay for now. Anyway Morphine, how did you guess? :D Anyway, anyone know where a match pull can be bought here?

just a tip:

use gd quality matches and dont set the pressure to high, else the head of the match will just detach (powderised?) and burn up in midair.

I got mine from Magic Castle but this was years ago...1999 I think. I don't know if they still sell it. The ones I have are the Made In India versions, so the gimmicks all koyak already :D

Let us know if you manage to get any good quality ones. Thanks.

I use the version by Yves Doumergue and I LOVE IT. Yes after awhile the lighter paper will fail you due to it being worn out. But who in the world wouldn't replace it before a show! Haha, you'd be asking for it if you didn't. This version allows you to appear two lit matches. Oh yeah... one of my best investments ever. Magical, clean, simple, and oh so direct. Get it.
