It's been a while since I last share a review of the stuffs I bought, so I thought I'll share this one.
I am sure many of you fans of mentalism effects would have heard of outlaw-effects.
I recently ordered one of their newer products, the sniper pad.
It's indeed a clever idea which is well thought off. I am however a little bit disappointed though as I was expecting something abit more spectacular. Perhaps, I was expecting too much.
I've used several types of impression boards before this but mainly for stage. So, when I saw sniper pad available, I thought it would be a decent investment for my closeup use.
The good thing first is that, the gimmick is unlike any other I've seen elsewhere. If you've tried "universal impression", i personally feel that this one is better. The impression is reliable and the gimmick is well hidden such that you may casually let the audience take a look at the notepad without finding anything suspicious.
If you are familiar with "universal impression", you may want to buy the gimmicks only from outlaw-effects and gimmick up your favourite item. That will definitely save you some cost. This gimmick is the thinnest I've seen so far and because of that, it's definitely easier to conceal. The set comes with one gimmick already placed inside one notepad, while another spare piece is left as it is so that you can put it anywhere else you want.
Overall, I'll strongly recommend you this if you are into closeup mentalism. Don't pass this off if you are a stage worker as I'm sure you'll find use for this on stage as well. So, I'll rate this product 8.5/10!
Shufi,
I have Universal Impression. What advantage does Sniper Pad have over U I?
(Pls don't expose anything, just state the pros/cons in comparison with U I.)
Hi Joel,
Both are similar gimmicks, one is white, another is green. Not sure if it makes any difference reading the impression in low light.
Size-wise, it is alike. UI, I believe comes in rectangular shape (as shown to me by a friend) so that it can go inside a card box. Meanwhile, those that came with the sniper pad is squarish, and covers a slightly bigger area, better size to rig your notepad in my opinion, and therefore better for routines like drawing dulplication in my opinoin. That also mean that it cant go inside the card box. But I guess you can cut it down to size? Have not tried that though.
The main difference is really the thinness of this gimmick making it possible to rig anything you want, better.
The idea that comes with sniper pad is basically a way to gimmick your notepad such that it is good enough for casual inspection by the audience. I am not saying that it is necessary for the audience to inspect it, but at least you know that it is more than safe to let your audience handle it.
But if your UI have served you well, there's really no need for a switch of gimmick as they are essentially the same thing.
