Title: Why You Should Learn Card Tricks
Description: Coming from a coin worker

Perhaps not just to learn card tricks, but to actually have a good knowledge about the different sleights and possiblities with 52 cards (or more)

As a coin worker, I always had tried avoiding dwelling with cards. I did try to start out a little, but never did devote as much practice compared to the coin work I do. As I get exposed to the professionals, I slowly realise that this is one genre you can't run away from. There are only yet so many tricks around and there are limited genre to pick from when it comes to close up magic.

Eventually, a pack of cards IS your best friend.

I tried to look out for various types of magic and start to have a variety. But eventually people see me as a magician full of "tricks" up my sleeves. Possibly because I don't structure my routines well enough, but seriously, if someone start doing ropes, and change to do coins, then to do notes, and spongeballs, people start thinking in their head that "this guy have alot of tricks!" "hey do the rope one" "hey do the money one" "hey do the coin one"

Compared to a deck of cards, I guess one is only limited to his/her imagination. With a simple 52 deck of card (even ungaffed ones), you can literally do magic with that one prop for an hour or more. Thats how much of "Packs small, play big" it is.

I don't know if there are anyone around like myself, but I just thought I'd share a little of what actually took me sometime to realise. :X

And Thanks to Cynwell who actually inspired me to "KICK" start card magic!

Cheers~!

But coins are still your romantic interest right? =P

Have fun with the learning. =)

I am exactly in the dame boat where my interest was limited to coins or rather with all props like rope, sponge balls etc. But I was keeping myself away from cards and was never sure what is holding me back.

After a while remembered it is th long procedural magics that puts me off and its not actually yhe cards that I dislike. Once opened up my mind and started looing on those cards tricks which are quick and right on the face instead of long stories and long steps before you come to the magic part.

Actually now I agree that with a deck of 52 cards possibilities are endless and limited to your imaginations. I started with a DVD Thirteen and found few tricks in that DVD which I could start performing in a short while as they were self working.

Now I enjoy cards as much as coins.

HAHAHAHA Yes. If I had to choose one to marry, its with coins, not cards. :P I should be asking for card lessons from you, Jonathan!

I really want to keep the gems to myself...so... THAT DVD S**K! Its the WORST! :X

I guess it took me pretty long to realise what I was missing out! So hopefully others won't be like Ashtrix or myself.

I have been practicing coin magic more because i prefer magic to be visual.

Because of the bad card tricks around, performing card tricks require additional effort in winning back some audiences who might be turned off by the act of pulling a deck out. Pulling out coins generate more interest in my experience.

However, I have recently found myself liking the card magic of Bebel, Dani Daortiz and Lennert Green.
