Title: Review Of John Kennedy's Mojoe
Description: Coffee turned over and disappeared

I've watched and seen John Kennedy's Mojoe and I thought that it would be a good idea to share my thoughts on this effect.

This is a strong close up effect where the magician takes a hot cup of coffee, sips it, then in front of everyone, covers his hands on top of the cup and overturn the hot coffee onto his hands. The spectators are surprised that his hand is not burnt... then they realised that the coffee is gone too.

Mojoe Video Clip

There are various handling to this effect that are better than what is show in the demo video. Especially so since it allows you to end cleanly and hand out the cup for examination.

For example, one variation taught in the DVD is how you can cover the top of the cup with a serviette, wave your hands a few times over it, and then remove the napkin to show that the cup is now empty. Another variation allows you to place the serviette on the coffee cup, wave a few times, and show that the coffee is gone and in its place, is a whole handful of coffee beans. Very strong. You end clean and can even hand out the cup for examinations.

Typical of most of John Kennedy effects, Mojoe is quite expensive; but it's also a great effect to perform in close-up situations or when you are out at Coffee Bean with a friend.

The effect can be performed using other liquids beside Coffee. E.g. Coke, Milk, etc.

The effect is relatively easy to perform and works with both paper cups (e.g. Starbucks hot coffee paper cups) or the normal coffee mugs you have at home. There is a quick set-up for the effect. You can even sip on the coffee before making it disappear.

There is no switching of cups whatsoever, and neither is there any messy plastic bags or tubes. No refills needed.

:off: On a side note, the name Mojoe is a bad choice considering its definition. Check out Urban Dictionary online for its meaning. :ph43r: If I did not remember wrongly, Kennedy mentions that he named it after a coffee shop. I can't help but wonder though.

Hi Joel,

Glad to see that you're back in SMC with a new account :). Thanks for the review. This looks like a really cool effect. Read on Magic Cafe that Cyril did it on the Japanese New Year's Eve special as well.

I'm thinking of getting this myself. Just a question about the gimmick, is it durable? If it got lost or spoilt, can it be self-made? Thanks.

Best Rgds

The gimmick is quite simple. you might be able to purchase something similar, but I am no sure if the quality will be the same. It's a simple gimmick with a strong concept.

Hi!

I saw how to do this effect on a book.

But I'm not so sure if how to do it is the same...

Interesting. But i was wondering about something, do you get these DVDs on:

1. SMC Magic Dealers

2. Shipping from world wide companies

3. Local shops

Thanks

I got it from overseas from John Kennedy. I am sure the local dealers would be able to help you get a copy if you need it too.

I got this product, utterly simple yet sends a strong entertainment factor to the audiences. I did it once, when I was holding this cup and sipping the cup gradually, and next moment, the cup is inverted, liquid is gone!

The look on the faces of the people is priceless.

The gimmick is well made, and I think buying the original, instead of doing a home made one is better, I strongly believe in giving credit to the creator.

One down side of this trick, you need to keep the crushed cup. Avoid audience inspection, of course :) My advice is to use this product, and upon completion, whipped out Flow and perform it as a routine

Local shops has this by the way. Hope this helps :)
