Dr. Anthony Darkstone (aka - Tony Brook) - is an International Deputy for The Society of American Magicians. Some of you may not be familiar with his name but he has a great background and well known in the business by many of the major names including leading Las Vegas Magical personalities. He is highly rated by the likes of Eugene Burger, Dan Garrett, Jon Racherbaumer, Walter Blaney, Pat Page, Ali Bongo, Jerry Andrus, Martin Nash, Bob Blau, etc to name just a few. He has a well-deserved International reputation as a Performer, Producer, Act Director, Writer & Talk Show Host.

He has been in the business for several decades and has performed and lectured in Africa, Brazil, Israel, several countries in Europe, Canada, and in the US. Although he has made quite a reputation Internationally as a Magician of The Mind, his lecture covers many aspects of our Art. It is called, “The Insider Sessions “ because it provides an in-depth inside look at our Art and reveals the workings & thinking behind some astonishing effects.

This lecture is unique. It is two lectures in one. The first part is packed full of various effects that are taken from his own extensive performing repertoire. The second half reveals, amongst other things, the secrets behind the workings of an extremely deadly card force which shows how to effortlessly force not just one but several cards from a regular deck. It never fails! He also demonstrates a Stacked Deck Principle, which dates back to 1612 and was used by Spanish pirates to cheat at card games. Both parts contain excellent practical information that not only shows how, but also why each effect works. He is one of the most magical lateral thinkers alive today.

Many of his workings have been kept secret and known only to a select group of working performers. He will share the secrets of these effects that work just great for close-up, children’s, parlor, strolling, and stage magic. Whatever type of Magic you do, or wish to do, you will benefit from attending this lecture. Dynamic, fun and full of personality, it contains good strong commercial Magic that will increase your show bookings.

Refer separately for details about the lecture, and some comments about his previous lectures. Note that Dr Darkstone will discuss details about his separate Workshop fee during this lecture and in IBM's May meeting.

Lecture - Part One

OUTSIDE THE BOX

The lecture contains several fascinating ideas and effects from serious mind-reading to comedy. It reveals the workings of many interesting effects that can be adapted to suit individual performers. Some of these very original effects received glowing comments from Dan Garrett in World Class Magic.

As the title suggests, the thinking behind the various effects was conceived by changes in thought processes, long years of study plus the liberal usage of Lateral Thinking. All of the methods used to achieve these effects have been made simple and the lecture contains something for everyone. Card effects, ESP, Psychic phenomena and Clear Force bags are given a completely new twist in this lecture.

Examples of Lateral Thinking - Training the Brain to alter accepted perceptions of magic

Psychic Partners - Many variations using the spectator’s Psychic abilities

Natural Affinity - Two effects in one . Inspired by Las Vegas gamblers

Collective Influence - Three audience members are collectively influenced

The Lie Detector Machine - Comedy card divination using a stethoscope and a banana…a banana??

Subliminal Imagery - The magus captures mental imagery from the audience

Lecture - Part Two - This part is from the DVD and workshop of the same name.

HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT

The Pythagoras Force - Force up to 9 different cards without fail each and every time. Based on a 1935 principle by Billy O'Connor and also on the numerology thinking of the Ancient Greeks, this force utilizes a new technique that makes it so deadly that even you will believe that real magic is happening in your hands. It is virtually impossible to fail. Use it anytime you want to force a group of cards. You can do it even using a borrowed deck. The workings are explained in detail and several effects are taught using this force. Many Card experts including Jon Racherbaumer called this force a novel and intriguing idea.

Some effects using this Force.

The Amazing Poker Deal - Explains how to deal a Royal Flush without fail every time.

Gathering The Ladies - How to successfully Force the Queens or indeed any group of four cards

Perplexed Prediction - A baffling comedy prediction with an impossible kicker twist

The Sting - The title says it all. A very sneaky idea that’s a perfect con

+ PLUS +

The Pirates Stack – This first appeared in an Old Portuguese book published in 1612. This stacked deck is a well kept secret known only to a select few. The principle behind the stack was said to have been used by Spanish Pirates to cheat at Card games. A full and detailed explanation reveals how the stack is accomplished. This stack has truly fooled many leading International magicians.

The Houdini Ring – A talisman that once belonged to Houdini is firmly knotted unto a cord held by two spectators; it mysteriously moves and then visibly escapes. Learn the simple technique that fooled many magicians.

The Cell-Phone Prediction Or Can I Call a Friend? - A spectator freely selects a card and it is lost in the deck. The spectator then calls a friend using his cell-phone. The friend (who is not present) instructs the magician via the cell-phone and the card is found where the friend predicts. A simple idea makes this a truly impressive effect. Play it straight for a jaw-dropping finale or alternatively as a great scope for comedy.
