Creative ideas you have there :D
But i guess, there is a reason why the trick is to be done with 2 rubber bands. B)

I believe the beauty of the illusion in the rubber cuffs is that when the work is already done, the audiences remains to perceive the bands still linked or together.
That is why we have the move to the left and right subtlety before we show.
That is why we do it with only 2 bands usually of the same colour.
Other than that, using solid objects seems to suggest you did something on the pull (which is what usually people suggests) or that you somehow have a clever method to free the band and rehold it.
If you ever watched a slow motion or slow performance of the linking rings, you will understand.
Otherwise, it's good to be creative.

Sorry for sounding a bit harsh, but I really don't see much creativity in your clip. The method remains the same, only changing the object to penetrate through.
And from what I see it really didn't help to make the effect any better. In fact, there was always this sudden jerking action before the "moment", which could give away the secret. Or like what magicallobo said, it would raised questions in people's head.
Also, because of the elasticity of rubber bands, it is more convincing to do it with them. I think you can appreciate why.

Ok thanks for your suggestions!

This is brilliant. I wish I had half your creativity.
Number one i think its wonderful that you are proud of your video and posted it over here. I appreciate how you went through the trouble to edit the video out properly.
O.T Its a japanese song right? Are you into manga or animations?
I've gave a thought about trying the CMH with other objects before and probably many other magicians too. But you're probably the only one who did up so many variations which to me, is worth a praise!
I think in the long run, you'd definately come up with wonderful methods in other areas or genre of magic.
The way you phrased your words in the video as well, is interesting to consider and i look forward to watching a presentation of your own routine in reality next time.
I can understand how other magicians may see this as a "challenge" to the traditional CMH classic, but i still think that the different variations like knife penetration/restoration is very interesting to watch from a laymen's perspective.
I look forward to other videos you'd come up with. Thumbs up.

Sorry to disappoint you also. I stop the video less than half way through.
I guess you got the concept of the CMH totally wrong. It is good to have creativity, but misunderstanding the logic and then use the logic into different forms will only create suspicious and revealing of the secret.
The reason why the ORIGINAL CMH uses 2 bands of the same color is because you want to induce the idea that the bands are still entangled even after the move is done. Try using different color bands and you will find that the illusion is totally destroyed. The magic only happen when the band melts through, not the move.
So what you are doing now is telling people that now you see it inside, then its out, so the only key issue is the moment before it came out, and lay people will be able to know that you did something at that moment, just playing back a few times and they realize its that moment of switch.
Using items than bands are not banned or restricted in CMH, but still sticking on to the logic behind is totally needed in this illusion.
Not trying to bring you down, but its better to let you know then never.

I agree with what Larry said. Please understand that we are not bashing you, if you take these comments positively, you will come out with better ideas.
What you did are variations and these variations doesn't seem to have a big difference. Repeatedly showing the move will expose it. Anyway, don't be discouraged, try to work out a routine with different objects (not too many objects though) but the flow has to make sense rather than using different objects without making any sense. :)

Ok actually I'm working with pressure and modifying it, trying to fuse it with a card trick, hope I can show it to your soon! And thanks for your suggestions!
magic_most_wanted - August 30, 2010 10:37 AM (GMT)
I like your idea cause it uses everyday objects which other people didn't think of it.
