Title: Omg. I Got Conned, A Lot.
KiuiYamamoto - July 28, 2010 12:37 PM (GMT)
Hi dear SMC members! :)
I am a newbie in magic for about... 6 months. I had always bought my items at MH (Magic Hall) since I didn't know about their misdeeds and even become a member.
I must agree with you guys to say that Solomon's service is really bad. I went to Concorde's branch first but go to Plaza Singapura after. However, the guy in the Plaza Singapura's branch is very nice to me. (perhaps because I am his money maker =.=)
I have bought ton of DVDs and card decks from them and practically, everything from them. I don't know what to do now, especially after spending about $1000 from them.
Just on the side note, what kind of DVDs do they copy and sell? I have heard that Tagged by Richard Sanders is copied by them too. And I am sad to say that I had bought it from them. Do they E's DVDs too? How about Dan and Dave's The System? I bought The Secrets Of Magic by David Stone from them too, not forgetting Tarantula by Yigal Mesika. I wonder what to do now... :(

OMG, thats really sad. I think the best thing you can do is to contact relevant authorites, perhaps for pirating but i dont think you can do anything about the overpricing because they have rent to pay (thats a reason)
I feel really sad for you, and how did you even spend so much money considering you are just a secondary school student?
KiuiYamamoto - July 28, 2010 02:22 PM (GMT)
Thanks for your reply. About the secondary school part, I used up my savings that i saved up over the past year. :) And I have a supportive mother who paid for my magic stuffs too. I don't even know if I could refund after learning all the secrets of magic, since I mostly started there. So now what...

So good at least your parents support you learning magic. My parents don't. They think that learning magic is waste of time and money. I feel sad about it. I used my own money to support my own interest but they still don't agree.

Hi! I was a victim too! But I always tell myself that since I can't turn back time and stop myself from going to Magic Hall, I'll just take it that finding out the truth late is better than never!
Anyway, Kiui, I totally understand the feeling of having supportive parents! :D
Both my mum and dad loves me showing them tricks! Hehe!
I guess at the end of the day, all parents will be supportive as long as we, as their children do our part by putting lots of effort in our studies, behave and respect all others, they will not control us too much.
And furthermore, magic is a wonderful hobby that makes a better person out of the magician! ;)

Since you already bought it, then use it then. Why bother if it is pirated or not. The contents is still the same.
Just make sure you don't buy those next time.
Rapid867Flare - July 29, 2010 10:57 AM (GMT)
Just get a refund from them on the spot.Don't accept their offer to take it for 'verification'.Just keep demanding for a refund on the spot and they will give it to you.Or else , just threaten action.

Thanks guys for your nice replies. I most probably won't go there to buy any DVDs anymore. But how about props? Like silk handkerchiefs and others. Do you have a cheaper place to advise me? Thanks. PM me about the location that you frequently purchase your magic products :)
Thanks.
PS. KiuiYamamoto is my Japanese name. I am not a Japanese, but a pure Chinese. Please call me Alden Tan at will. KiuiYamamoto is my wanna-be Japanese character.

I think since you have unfortunately bought it, I guess you can do nothing about it. Like what Axl has mentioned, since you already bought it, you should just use it then. Just remember to avoid to go to them again if you are unhappy with them. But then again, those are some great dvds that you have bought from them actually. Like the David Stone, and the Dan and Dave.
As for other alternatives, online sources are the cheapest. There will never be a cheap and original products store around I guess.

I suggest that you purchase your items from online websites in the future. Magicdow occasionally orders from Murphy's, give him a PM, I'm sure he'll be glad to help you out.
I'm surprised that you spent so much in just 6 months. You shouldn't aim to learn as many tricks as you can, but rather you should master the presentation and sleights of it.
