Just want to compare the routine & prices.

Saw one that I liked very much which has a little more audience involvement. It's from Derren Brown's Devil's Picturebook.

A few good oil & water routines that i know of are

1. Darwin Ortiz's "Ultimate Oil & Water"
2. Guy Hollingworth's version (very similar to Ortiz, only different presentation and climax)
3. Michael Skinner's version from his Classic Sampler book

I saw this in the past and was eager to learn it. Its very nice and the effect is very strong. Will get this effect ASAP.

Jc sum has a very strong oil & water routine and i think it will be taught in his upcoming notes. Do look out for it.

Thanks Timo for the kind words!

Yes, my impromptu Oil & Water routine will be detailed in my upcoming lecture notes or book which will be released by Jun/ Jul 2007. It was a project that I did not have a specific deadline for but keen interest by many shown during TLMS's Good Friday Sale has urged me to complete the long awaited project.

My Oil & Water will likely appeal to many as it is super clean and the effect just happens... like magic is supposed to look. No funny counts, spreads or unsual displays. It is performed in the bonus section of my Street Illusions DVD/ VCD if you have it.

Will keep you updated.

Sounds very interesting! Okay, would wait a little longer for your book or lecture of the oil and water to come out. Guess its going to be very nice, visual and clean=) Do keep me updated when your routine is out=)

JC Sum's Oil and Water is really good. Especially its' final phase with the deck. Very nice. ^_^

:off: JC: Will your new book be filled with your effects this time?

jcsum - April 11, 2007 08:35 AM (GMT)
Hi Big Bad Wolf.

Thanks! Yes, there is a full deck separation kicker for my Oil & Water. I have 3 handlings, 2 which can be done impromptu. This will be detailed in my book.

Yes, the book will ONLY contain original effects and presentations. Some of which I lectured on during the Micro Convention in Jan 07. The material will cover a variety of close-up/ street magic, not just cards and coins. The magic is audience tested, time proven and practical. But, it is not for the beginner level magician.

The book is 60% complete and I'm currently in talks for a 3rd party publisher to produce the book.

Will keep you updated.

Best,

J C

Yes, Derren Brown's oil and water routine can be found in his DVD called The Devil's Picture book. It has a lot of good effects inside and the best is still his Oil and Water routine. It's 100% impromptu and visual.

Regards...

Yea. Derren Brown's Oil and Water is excellent. Perform it almost all the time I am presented with a pack of cards. Impromptu, easy borrowed deck effect, and stunning since the audience is the one who "separate the cards into two piles themselves". Easy to perform, no d**k sw***h, extra deck or anything like that.

If J C Sum's lecture notes are better, I'll be very interested.

In my new book/DVD Kingdom of the Red, you'll find in Chapter 23 an effect called Urokinase. It's an impromptu Oil and Water type effect with 6 phases. It uses 4 red cards and 4 black cards. I use a different script than the usual oil and water story. Ity involves red blood cells and black platelets and how blood clots and declots. It's explained in the book as well as in the DVD. :D

Joshua Jay has put together an oil and water routine quite nicely which i like quite a lot. It's being featured in his "talk about tricks" dvd. It's a three phase routine and end of with a very visual colour change. This trick doesn't use any gimmick or extra card. It's very clean.

Hi All,

there's a Oil and Water routine on Thoughts on Cards DVD by Larry Jennings which I like very much.

It uses 4 black and 4 red, and each time have the spectator help deal the cards to you, and you can show them it is red/black alternated in between.
It has 3 phase, the first time you see it you think you know how he done it, then he does it the second time with a different method, and the third time different again.. leaving you amazed.

Is the book coming anytime soon?

Hi,

Unfortunately, this is a project that has been been put on the back burner due to my show schedule. Since Jun 2007, it has been non-stop with multiple projects. Between our regular illusion shows, flying for our international bookings, the mega illusion, theatre show, designing & fabricating almost 1/2 a dozen original illusions + working towards future special projects, I've had not time... even with 16 - 18 hour work days.

Right now, my schedule is pretty much full to Mar 2008, so I don't see the lecture notes happening before then. My 4th illusion book has also been put back... and I've been working on that since late 2005.

Will keep you guys updated.

Thanks.

J C
