birder123 - August 27, 2010 02:30 PM (GMT)
This has been asked before:

http://forums.singaporemagiccircle.com/ind...topic=6101&st=0

you can switch to another trick, do a f***e sh**f*e

magic_most_wanted - August 30, 2010 10:26 AM (GMT)
I do false cut already but they ask if they can shuffle.

magic_most_wanted - August 30, 2010 01:54 PM (GMT)
What should i do?

birder123 - August 30, 2010 02:01 PM (GMT)
It has already been addressed in the other thread.

Your f**** c***s should be convincing enough, if they are not effective (which can definitely happen sometimes) you could switch to another impromptu trick.

Also you can tell them not to shuffle in a more indirect manner like stated in the thread, though I do not recommend this.

Just look at the thread.

Yuo can try not to let them shuffle the deck by shifting your attention to another audience. So to say ignore the person who bugged you to shuffle. Or like what the rest suggested, do a f*ls* sh*f*le to convince them that the cards are mixed. Otherwise depends on how much a quick wits you have to come up with a joke or whatever to not allow them to touch your cards.

If the person still insist to shuffle, then I guess its just too bad you got to give it to him and later take back the deck to continue with an impromptu trick.

Generally, I have 2 decks in my left jacket pocket. 1 gimmick/setup and 1 normal deck. I usually start my performance with a routine involving a normal deck and sleight of hand. When done, i put the deck back into my pocket and perform routine with something else (coins, rope etc). Finally I will end my entire performance with the gimmick deck.

They probably would want to shuffle the cards initially but not later on in the performance.

Normally if I wan to do a setup deck trick, I will do it using a Ma**ed deck or St****er deck. or just carry 2 deck around like what delee said, a set up deck using Ma**ed deck or St****er deck and any other gimmick deck.

LarryDK - October 27, 2010 08:11 AM (GMT)
well, i got a better idea.

First of all, why are you restricted by using a setup deck? In terms of street or close up magic, there bounds to be heckler around.

Depending on the setup deck, if it is an ARRANGED DECK, what I will do, is to let them shuffle the deck, and do ANOTHER effect. If your deck is setup using a pre-set gimmick inside, then before you ever use the deck, you should have established yourself stronger that the cards are normal.

First, you should have done an effect with a normal deck. Hand them the deck and get them to shuffle, once they are happy, impress them with magic and they won't heck you anymore. Switch to a non card effect, impress them further, hand them the items for inspection if needed, but becareful of them running away with it. Then go back to the set up deck and do what you want. Don't emphasize too much into the deck and that should keep the heat down.

Haha, good idea too!

But that mean that we need to carry many things on us. So can you give some example of the small trick in between?

KiuiYamamoto - December 16, 2010 12:59 PM (GMT)
There is an idea that I would like to share here. You can actually purchase those bicycle seals from magic stores or directly from Ellusionist and place them on the decks after you stack them. In that way, you could say that the seal on the deck of cards had not been broken and also ask the spectator to break the seal. If I was the spectator, I would have been fooled that it was a new deck. Oh yeah, remember to add the 2 regular advertisement cards and 2 jokers, just to make it more realistic that it is new. Sorry for any grammer mistakes and hoped it help! :D

myhobbyismagic - December 16, 2010 07:07 PM (GMT)
Hey this is another good idea too, I am using this way too. If you know how to remove the seal and wrapper slowly, you can just save it up and use that seal for your show.

KiuiYamamoto - December 18, 2010 05:39 PM (GMT)
Yep. It really catches the spectator off guard. Remember to F**** S****** after opening the deck too and when u show them the deck after u shuffle, they won't expect that it is stacked at all. :)

VisualShoxx - December 19, 2010 05:50 AM (GMT)
But a brand new deck should have all the 52cards in order (Ace to kings for each suit), isn't it??

LarryDK - December 19, 2010 10:33 AM (GMT)
Agree and disagree.

Agree because, yes it is a good idea to have a seal deck and open it before the performance. And alot of people won't know that a new deck is pre arranged into suits. But you can immediately so some false shuffle to solve that anyway.

Disagree because it means it's only for a 1 time performance. If you are a roaming magician, it's unlikely that you want to seal back your deck every time after the performance. And as a good magician, you should establish a stronger character than letting the audience control you. Esp situation where heckler could happen, you should be prepared to handle situation of them saying or doing stupid things. Having a seal deck is like running without being chased. And it because you want to avoid the situation of being asked to shuffle. But that doesn't eliminate that, people will and can still ask to shuffle.

So my solution for problem like these is to have either don't have such deck or control your audience well. Nothing is perfect, you have to learn to keep the attention onto you than your suspicious deck.

Yep,
And that is why you should do a false shuffle before you show them the cards face up and convince them that it is shuffled but in the first place, it is just stacked.

Well said and I agree with you. But the sealed deck option is as what I just said, just an option. Thanks for your advise and comments again! :)

There are magic shop that sell seal, but i wonder does magic shop sell those plastic cell wrap for those that have tear up it wrap in the previous perform or not.

KiuiYamamoto - January 13, 2011 11:26 AM (GMT)
I doubt that they sell the cellophane as it is sealed.

xfrenz93x - October 1, 2011 05:55 PM (GMT)
They do sell the cellophane re-sealer now! Although I wouldn't actually use it.

If the spectator insists on shuffling the cards, it just goes to show they are out to catch you. If so, as what Brad Christian of Ellusionist says, just stop and walk away. No point ruining yourself if you meet such a spectator.

Then again, there are certain stacks that can be shuffled by the spectator before proceeding into the trick. The G**B***** Principle allows for that. If you have Max Maven's Birds of Prey series or Videomind series, you will understand what I'm talking about. =D
