Title: Hypnosis

Anyone believe in hypnosis?
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Simply put, hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness characterized by
heightened susceptibility to suggestion. Under hypnosis, suggestions bypass the
critical faculties of normal consciousness and directly enter the subconscious
mind–where “if accepted,” they are acted upon. The deeper the level of hypnosis,
the greater the subject’s suggestibility.
This entire process is based upon the fact that while our conscious thought
processes use inductive reasoning, our subconscious uses only deductive
reasoning. Once a suggestion is accepted by the subconscious, it is automatically
transformed into reality. It does not matter if the suggestion originates from
an internal source (ie. self-hypnosis) or an external one (the operator). Indeed,
the distinction between autosuggestion and heterosuggestion is considered to
be both arbitrary and superficial.

Hmmm... I do not know is dangerous or not but Hypnosis can sometime cure sickness so I guess if you use it the right way is good but in the wrong ways and hands it bad..... <_<

Hypnosis can be dangerous but not cold reading. You can read books on self-hypnosis. Can help you to diet, quit smoking, lead better lives etc.

Can someone learn it and help me to stop smoking? :D Yes I'm THAT desperate. B)
I think mixing hypnosis with magic is overstepping the boundary for me. Dun really understand it but I would approach it with caution. Heard it's not supposed to be dangerous at all but still using it to achieve a magical effect seem a bit trivalising it. Cold reading is fine generally unless you start making people believe that you are really some kinda medium and can call up spirits etc etc, like that guy in Crossing Over. I think that sucks.

Morphine... actually i read an article once that said a study showed smokers who stop smoking successfully did just that: they just make up their minds one fine day and just stop. i think what the study indicates is that it's not so much the fads or substitutes that ppl get into to "get over" the habit, it's more of a very firm decision. i have a friend who quit that way (this was before i read the study) and i also know of 1 other person who quit like that. just like that.
Hypnosis.... interesting read... i esp agree with the later paragraphs

whenever u feel like smoking, take a cigeratte out, start to levitate it... n let it float all the way up n disappear in the sky light.
u'll be so amazed yourself that u'll forget about smoking.. ;)

Hmmm... wy not try chewing gum to quit the urge, Morphine :)
anyways, the reason i felt cold reading was dangerous because when done convincingly enough, people think you really have some supernatural powers... if you're a good person, you draw the line at being the entertainer/ performer.
but we also have people who use their skills and 'talents' to cheat people. it's a psychological weapon, very much like hypnotism... my 2 cents worth anyways ;)

I was a smoker for 13 years, have quite for about 7 years liao. An achievement I'm very proud of. How to do it? No easy way. For me, its will power.
I planned to stop smoking for a long time, so one day, I said this is going to be my last day of smoking. At midnight, I ran out of cigerete and had to steal my dad's cigerette, I smoke it and that was my last one.
The next 2 months was a pain, expecially after meals, the craving was so bad. You'll need to endure all these. Avoid, going to places that might encourage smoking like pubs, avoid playing mahjong, avoid fishing. Well at least all these helps. Good luck to you.

Replace all your cigs with Flash Cigs. This way when ever you want to light yo Fag, it blows up in your face. This way you'll soon have a Phobia of cigs. Yeah.

One fine day, he juz told himself to quit

I believe at the end of the day hypnosis is just like your self determine either conciously or sub-concious in what u r and what u gonna be. That's y it cannot work on unwilling partner. I think I like to self-hypnosis myself to hate coffee as I luv coffee too much.
