Title: Healing Of Magic 24th Feb 4 Pm
Aloy - February 23, 2005 03:22 AM (GMT)
Dear all,
This is a really last minute event so bear with me. There's a Healing of Magic session tomorrow (24th Feb) to be held at NUH Main Building at 4pm.
For those that hasn't heard of the Healing of Magic before, it's a project that employs the teaching of certain magic tricks as a physio-therapy tool. So what you do is actually teaching some very simple basic magic tricks to patients who need physical rehabitation, and they practise their magic tricks as physiotherapy.
Those that are interested and can make it can call 98452841 and look for Clement.
TheMaestro - February 23, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
Hmm...I'll probably go for this. My classes finish at 4pm and I can just walk there after that. How convenient :D
Ning - February 23, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
I'll be working tomorrow... but I'd encourage everyone else to lend their support and give what you can to the community :) Here's a chance to be a REAL performer... strutting your stuff before REAL spectators! Enjoy yourselves and good luck! ;)
M.A.D. - February 23, 2005 04:26 AM (GMT)
working at bedok.. not able to make it, the rest should support for good cost.....and will learn new understand what magic can use for... B)
TheMaestro - February 23, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure if they're really looking for more people to help them on this one. When I contacted Clement he said that it was for the 2 RGS girls
ziLin - February 23, 2005 07:15 AM (GMT)
no no! it's not for the 2 rgs girls.. it's for rh89..
ours is not at nuh and it hasn't started yet.. haha.
but we're going on the fridays sessions at nuh which starts next week :)
anyway, you all should join the healing of magic session! it's really fun and you will be inspired by the patients there.. especially when you're good at magic, the patients will love you like.. don't know what  and all of you will have so much fun that you won't want to go home!
so please join in!

Ok I'll probably be going then. So who'll be there tomorrow?
So what are the sessions like btw? How often do you have them? And is it just teaching or do you learn also?
What kind of tricks do you teach btw? Cos I heard you all have been taught what to teach and I expect I'll be quite lost at first when I go there.
ziLin - February 23, 2005 08:44 AM (GMT)
rh89 will be there with a guy called clement as mentioned earlier :) there will be 4 sec 3 rgs girls who are new recruits, and it's their first time doing it..
the sessions differ from weeks to weeks. sometimes, if the patients are able to move, it may be held in a fixed location and the patients will be brought out to that location so that they can learn from the voluntary magicians. but for other times, the voluntary magicians will just go into the wards and work with the patients there!
it's a weekly thing, but on alternate days. like 1st wk is thurs, 2nd wk is fri, 3rd wks is thurs again and so on.. there are different voluntary magicians for thursdays and fridays..
it's mostly teaching the patients how to do the effect, and how to perform it infront of others. so it'll help them with their confidence ;) uh.. no, the voluntary magicians won't learn the tricks during the therapy sessions! the patients do.. haha.
the tricks that are taught are really basic ones which i believe all the magicians here will be able to pick up in like one second. so don't worry! you won't be lost.. cause they are really simple magic effects :)
 don't worry! it'll be fun!

Wow, how come I missed so much? rh, why are we asking for more volunteers? I thought we had more than enough for the NUH programme? And wouldn't it be easier for any interested SMC people to just tell you, me or zl directly instead of going through Clement? And how come Clement said it was for us?? I mean, even if zl and I are considered, it shld be the 3 rgs girls, not 2?

Anyway, everyone, when we asked for interested parties that day at the outing, we were looking for volunteers for the SMaSH^3 programme...not the NUH programme. I didn't know we needed more pple...sorry about the mix-up.
Winder - February 23, 2005 11:57 AM (GMT)
Wish i could go, but since it's a last minute event, i couldn't apply for LOA from school. So ladies and gentlemen, have fun !. Hahaha All the best :)
However my class end at 4, so i don't think i can skip any class. :P Quiz next week, Hahaha ~
Aloy - February 23, 2005 11:58 AM (GMT)
Hah....ok...some confusion going on.
I got this event request from Kien Meng, so I posted accordingly. The actual workings and etc i'm not completely sure.
The girls who are in the HOM rh, zilin and wy please enlighten us?

Also, just in case anyone's interested, magic therapy isn't limited to physiotherapy. And I doubt we'll be using it for physiotherapy much in the NUH programme anyway. Apart from motor skills, magic therapy is also supposed to improve attention, cognitive, perception, and psycho-social skills. Think I mentioned this in another thread. Yeah, so it's not just limited to physio patients...virtually any patient can be suitable for magic therapy!
Anyone who's interested can just pop by to take a look...no obligation whatsoever to stay on for the rest of the programme or attend all the sessions. =)
[wy~*] - February 23, 2005 12:06 PM (GMT)
Huh? How come Kien Meng's in the picture too? rh, who initiated this?? Sigh, I have to go, if rh or zl doesn't explain about HOM by then, I'll be back to post more details.
illusionist - February 23, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
Hahahah I am going but will be leaving at 5 to make it to the dinner lol or else everyone at the dinner will kill me lol anyone going wan to meet at bouna vista control station and go together???? :D
[wy~*] - February 23, 2005 01:33 PM (GMT)
Um...is there still a confusion? Basically, we go to the hospital and teach patients magical effects to enhance their rehabilitation progress...what's the confusion about? Who still needs clarification, and about what?
Btw, how come we can't see beyond winder's post in this thread?
Thanks to those going down tmr! Pity zl and I won't be able to join yall...
Raoul - February 23, 2005 01:51 PM (GMT)
Is any of this done on weekends? I'm interested in this but can't make weekday afternoons.
[wy~*] - February 23, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
Sorry, HOM in NUH isn't done on any weekends...only Thursdays and Fridays. Maybe SMaSH^3 will have a course on the weekends...we'll let you know k?
revelc - February 23, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
i dun think i can join u all for tml..but call me nxt time. i'll b happy to go down :)
juz went nuh during the 1st n 2nd week of this month for attachment n i dunno abt such a thingie.. blur me...
Raoul - February 23, 2005 02:18 PM (GMT)
Sounds good.
Hey Morphine I think we broke the forum.
ziLin - February 23, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
yeah, i think it broke too. whatever that means.. it's just working weirdly. anyway, BIG CLARIFICATION time :)
there are 2 magic therapy programs. one is the NUH program and the other is the SMaSH^3 program. till now, only the NUH program is in place and it will be starting tomorrow, 24th of Feb. For the NUH program, it will be held only on thurs and fri, and the days alternate. meaning that this wk is thurs, next week will be fri, and the next NEXT wk will be thurs again!
as for SMaSH^3, things are not confirmed yet and more news will be out :)
magic therapy, as mentioned by wy, improves a wide range of skills for the patients who undergo this therapy. it is an alternative form of rehabilitative therapy.
uh.. that's it. i think everyone understands this right? the forum is broken!

I think it's only this thread so far...zl I think this forum has been suffering from the aftereffects of our presence lol.
Aloy - February 23, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
Ok....I just received word from rh....
Tomorrow's HOM event is NO GO. I repeat, NO GO.
SMC people please don't go for it.
As far as I know, only TheMaestro and Russy will still be going down because they have contacted and tied it down with the organisers.
The rest of SMC people who are interested, please don't go for it tomorrow. I will clear up the arrangements and maybe we can support this again another time.
Thanks!

[wy~*] - February 24, 2005 07:57 AM (GMT)
Well at least this is cleared up...we didn't mean to ask for SMC volunteers for the HOM programme at NUH. Sorry all for the misunderstanding.
SMaSH^3 is another magic therapy programme proposed by zl, me and another friend. It's similiar to HOM in essence, but different in that it's held on a course basis. Also, we aim to launch it in more hospitals, so it's likely to be on a larger scale. We're currently in the process of attempting to obtain sponsorship...will post more details about SMaSH^3 when it's confirmed.
weehome - February 28, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
ok. Sorry, let me clear up.
For those who are interested, pls tell me. email or PM otherwise.
1) I have to train you on what the healing of magic is about
2) register you as a volunteer.
Take note that it is not a one-off thing... it is a long term commitment. If the response is good enough, we may try
1) Another session different from the RGS (I preferred that)
2) Another Hospital (also preferred)
The magic to do are really simple. Nothing errie.... but it is good to have a foundation where you can perform more and impress the patients so they will be more interested to learn.
