Hey edward, I remember when I was just like you, wanting to advance in the art while still having enough money to buy lunch. But unfortunately, a sacrifice has to be made in order for progress... if not for all the tapes and books that I've seen, I woulda sucked more now than when I had sucked back then. If that makes sense.
BUT, no worries... I think you'll find that out in time. For now, you might just catch in on some stuff if you go attend the outings... a lot of material is flying around in these things ;)

ya, agree with kevin.. free stuff arent good.. if they are, then y are they free.. haha.. recommend u go buy born to perform by oz pearlman.. very good..even though u may know some basic sleights.. but beginners must get it!! It really brings u to a greater height..( sorry, penguin haters.. lol) thats for card magic.. if u like coins, can go buy the coin book known as bobo modern coin magic.. or even get coins dvd like intro to coin magic be micheal ammar or david roth's coin magic.. anyway think u not interested in coins rite? most ppl i know do cards.. <_< .
OR.. if u really wanna save money for ur lunch, u can go be a member of magiccastle.. then u can enjoy the benefit of buying and selling dvds ( so its like renting for $15bucks) (sorry again, MC haters, lol  ) but being a member is already $65 if im not wrong   . Either way, dun be too obssessed abt finding free tricks on net.. they really arent of the quality of true magi..

From what i know. Orchard's library, Hougang's library has quite a decent collection of magic books. But i would reccomend buying books from Book Kinokuniya at Takashimaya, they would have some good books there worth getting.
^_^
I think it's better for a beginner to try everything out headfirst and see what's good for yourself. B)

Hmmm... You lose some you gain some, i started magic with free stuff and it make me lose interest very EASILY. Cause no one will treasure whats free, so i actually bought dvds and books, and i feel there's a meaning in magic again, cause the money which i used to spend on the stuff, makes me feel that i actually earn them and i want to practice them.
A free thing to you is EITHER you practice it, or you just take it as a junk.
To me Free things will never be appericated just like guys will never appericate girls who say "i love you" they will take girls for granted too, so girls make yourself worthwhile :X Hahaha.
Ok a little bit :off: but back to topic, we all started with something free, but as we gradually move along. You find that free magic effect isn't interesting anymore, and you will lose interest. You will just go around spreading secrets, flashing all ever you want CAUSE it's free. You have no loss
Just a little note that some of our members here are Semi Professional and Professional, and they are very uptight about exposure as it's their career. So i think if you really like an EFFECT so much, just pay for it. Thats all i can say, overall it's up to everyone out there who is reading this post.
*peace*
For books, find some of our dealers in here, i believe they will give you a good price.

You know dude, the internet is a wonderful treasure trove for people looking for free stuff.

I've since moved on to DVDs and such, and I find them well worth the money. If you gang up with a couple of friends and split the cost maybe it'll be a little easier on the wallet. :)

Woah.......wassup dude??!
You have been with us for a while now MingWei, you should know the general "spirit" of SMC. Non-exposure rules remember? That includes sharing of exposure sites.
I know it's available, and I know they can search for it themselves, but there's no need to help them along there.
No good mate <_<
You have been getting regular, you should know better :(
2 warning levels for that.

hey mingwei sorry to casue u getting warned
Winder - February 26, 2005 04:36 AM (GMT)
The warning level will disappear soon enough. Hahaha ~ anyway back to magic guys, don't take it too hard, it's just a warning level.
Anyway edward, i think this is all we can help you. Get a book or DVD and start practicing and uphold the magician code, do not leak out anything even to your family members. Hahaha ~
