muscle reading is a form of advance mentalism that relies on physiological changes of the audience... a performer would have to pick up on the subtle movements in the audience's arm (not restricted to muscular movement... may include joint movement) as he questions the audience...
extremely powerful but requires a practicing partner... advance audience management...
A large portion of effects in Skullduggery is linguistic deception. Unless a performer is extremely good in communication I wouldn't advise getting it... More for Ang Moh performer... advance audience management

Hihi,
Currently something I had been trying to do. Its really not so "advanced" as it is simply "different".
You are talking about no sleights, no tricks, like what looks like plain old mind reading.
It does require a practice partner, but it should go beyond that. Because overtime, you may learn to read only one person, and hell, I think the partner would be bored to death after awhile.
Another important aspect of Muscle reading is to know how to choose whom to do it on. That's really part of audience management, and can only be learnt through experience.
I'm not sure why Skullduggery was the video in the link, because he doesn't do muscle reading.
If you are really interested in muscle reading, I recommand Banachek's Psychological Thought Reading. Its a good book covering everything from history, to learning it, to practice methods, all the way up to various presentations possible.
Simply brillant book....

Thanks for the tip Alex :)
Hmmm... so in essence, muscle reading is sort of like reading body language with "mentalism" right?

yes, but lots of training is needed for that.... lol :P

Lol... not exactly body language. Its more on ideomotor response.... well... I suppose you could call it body language as well... hahahaha
But its really quite cool, if I make it to the gathering on the 18th perhaps we can practice. lol... I don't profess to be good however.... :P

I've read some mixed reviews about Skullduggery, especially about Twisted Palms. Some people love it, some people hate it.
I think a lot of it is based on linguistic deception and creating an environment where the spectator is extremely receptive.
I think even if it is really possible, must be very difficult, and not 100%.

its psychological plays that Luke uses. Alot based on NLP.
I had tried something like that on a friend before, to make him feel some energy and his hand getting warmer....
LOL... he did feel it get warmer... but also recognised that it was psychological.
That being said, it does have potential if you have the guts and experience to do it.
... and erm... what does that have to do with muscle reading??

Hah! Yah...i think Ren got the topic wrong. I dun think Skullduggery is muscle reading?
Either that or he is interested in BOTH Skullduggery AND muscle reading.

I actually tried muscle reading on the previous Friday Jam.
But it didn't really turn out well for me this time.
:| Don't try it with magicians! LOL, some people try false transfers to full the person you are trying to read... the person you are trying to read thinks of ANYTHING but the object you are trying to decipher....
Haha.... but well... it was fun.... I'll go practice more before I go try it out again.... on a layman! HAHAHA

I have read, I have studied.... but I never use this in my performance
it is just not in my style of performance
But if you want a good recomendation , here you are :
1) 13 steps to Mentalism by Corrinda
( should be in the library of mentalism anyway )
2) Psy-series of Banatchek, Disc 3

To add on; more muscle reading to work your participant must comply to your instructions, and one of the few mentalism pieces that REALLY requires your participant to concentrate. If you've noticed and seen the pros who do muscle reading, most of them choose a lady/woman...I guess only a mentalist can really instruct a lady by the nose, huh
