Title: Magic For The Blind
Description: what would be possible?

Aloy - September 27, 2004 03:25 AM (GMT)
Can you guys think of any effects that can be performed relevantly for the blind?
I realise a lot of tricks are based on the spec "seeing" that you didn't look at their card, or peek when you are not supposed to, or seeing that you are handling the coins perfectly "normally" just transfering from one hand to the other. Most tricks are based on deception of the eyes.
What effects can be performed for the blind? Where the importance of "seeing" the "facts" are not important? I can only think of 1 or 2 so far. But they involve a terrible lot of magician's choice and them holding the "answer" in their hands before hand. Basically mentalist effects.
Can anybody think of anything?

P.S. It's interesting when you think about it. Because they cannot see, they dun assume, and therefore, less easily fooled.

u dont even need to do a magicians choice.. just switch it around they cant see a thing... sad to say i doubt there is any thing u could do about it

Aloy - September 27, 2004 08:48 AM (GMT)
exactly the problem, because they cannot see, they cannot be convinced of the "magic". Even if you didn't switch it, they will think it's just easy for u to.
That's the difficulty, to make magic relevant to them...

what kind of tricks are you going to do with Braille playing cards Morphine? It's going to be very tricky... try some mentalism stunts on them ;) like what Blaine likes to do, think of a number from a range and then floor them when you know what they're thinking about.

Aloy - September 28, 2004 03:34 AM (GMT)
There's a booth making Braille greeting cards i think. Maybe i get them to make something for me on that day.
Blaine's thought-of-number is not 100%. In fact, it only has a success rate of about 30% from what i found.
This is tricky....see if maybe cyngapore can think of something.

I think to do magic for the blind, It should be on mental magic, sound magic and sense magic. Example think of a number trick andothers! There's a lot of routine u can do for number magic! Sound magic such as rattle box magic etc and lastly sense magic example braille card tricks etc. :P

Um... What tricks can you do with braile cards?

GordonLi - October 13, 2004 09:38 AM (GMT)
mindreading - "feeling" out someone's card without looking

Not a good idea doing magic for the blind.

"If you're a REAL magician why dont you make me able to see you stupid lil' @#$!..."

"Um..Uhh..Um..err..heheh..want my glasses?"

Wow... magic for the blind.
Well then it has to be either magic that can be heard or felt. I think mentalism would work pretty well. Something simple that might work is the usual "Think of a card is it the Ace of Spades?". That'll work like a charm. For girls it's usually the Queen of Diamonds.

I have a little suggestion about what could be done, and it uses psychology.
Have a whole group of children in front of you. Play gentle relaxing music in the background which reach a climax like the music Copperfield uses. If you're that clueless use his Flying music. Ask the child to imagine that balloons are attached to his wrists. Big huge balloons. And tell them to imagine that these balloons are actually lifting their arms. Tell them that imagination can be so strong that these balloons can actually become real. As this happens, the music plays softly.

"Now imagine MORE balloons appearing magically pulling your arms upward"
Let the volume of the music increase as it reaches the climax.

Believe it or not, their hands will slowly start to rise like there were balloons attached to their wrists. They are blind children and not deaf children, and as it actually happens to one child, the others will be able to hear his reaction. This gives them hope, that this is actually possible. They will feel their arms rise like it was real magic. And one by one, all of their arms will rise. It's a really amazing thing and it's probably the most heartwarming thing to see all the children so happy and laughing. Because to them, this is probably the most magical thing that can possibly happen to them.

This was originally not meant to be a magic routine, and more for one to show how 'powerful imagination is'. It plays around with aspects of NLP and psychology. But present it as something magical and add the music for these children who can hear... and you have a miracle.

That sounds like some hypnosis...

check this webby out if you are interested...

control of mind can be really done, enforced...though i heard some side effects are that after some hypnosis, your brains would become slower, in short, stupider...

well...hope i not drifting out of topic here... ;)

haha, but frankly, i wldn't do a magic sow for the blind..
you cld hurt their feeling real bad at the mention of one wrong word...
like.."hey, now you see..."
or "hey, now you think of this number, and you see the number i wrote on the paper..." etc...

i don't really like having "guilt"...
so i choose my audience to be purely kids, cuz, they are fun...
