Title: Songs That Get You Going

CLJ - February 27, 2005 05:37 AM (GMT)
Just wondering which songs really get you going. You know, those kinds of songs that can just inspire/motivate you, snap you out of that funk or snap you INTO that funk. Stuff like that.

For me, prolly any song by Avril Lavigne, Yellowcard, Blink182, Sum41, the All-American Rejects, Green Day, the Dave Matthews Band, or Simple Plan do it for me. in fact, any all-american/canadian band/punk music does it for me. And of course, some christian music (mainly Hillsong) interspersed here and there helps for me 's well. Right now, I'm also listening to Built this Way by Samantha Ronson and Forty Foot Echo's Brand New Day. Built this Way has an awesome guitar riff at the beginning that just sounds so cool and pure and makes me feel emotionally alive. Yeah, and the song kicks uber ass as well. Brand New Day's prolly got the most memorable chorus for a song ever.

Aight, how about you guys, then?

Oh yeah, I love "Why Do I Love You" by westlife too! I like many of their songs, but my absolute fave is...
BACKSTREET BOYS!!!!!!!!!!
Fast numbers like Everybody and Larger than Life just rock the world! But ballads like Back to Your Heart, Spanish Eyes, I'll Be There for You...are awesome too. Basically all their songs are fantastic. =D
But I like a hell lot of songs. Chinese too, and J pop. I even like songs from my parents' generation...=P Like the CD Ai Qing Hai, it's just gr8. Oh oh oh, I like Alex To's music!!! The themes from The No. 8 Pawnshop are wonderful.
Okay yah, I'm obsessed with music haha.

Why Hikaru and not BoA? Love her Valenti, No 1, Amazing Kiss, Jewel Song, Every Heart, Listen to My Heart etc etc etc.
Or if Hikaru, why not Can You Keep A Secret and Distance?

well currently i like.. Jesse McCartney!

but i don't know why.

Jesse McCartney reminds me too much of Aaron Carter. Whom I hate, for obvious reasons =D But I like the song he did on the Princess Diaries 2 (Because You Live).

I generally can't stand anything non-english (chinese/korean/j-pop, etc). Most of my favorite songs are punk/pop. Any all-american/canadian bands kick uber ass. Local-wise, Pug Jelly does it for me as well. (and PJ's prolly the only good local band for that matter)

Blink 182's Carousel is a nice song to get me in any mood.

Also, "Almost" by Bowling for Soup has an opening riff that makes me get an eargasm, to put in in my own words. Yeah.

Ning - February 28, 2005 07:45 AM (GMT)
Stuff to play on Monday mornings at work - Gypsy Kings or Kylie Monogue (yeah, believe it) :P Music for quiet inspiration - Sade or Elliott Smith (he killed himself some time back - stabbed himself in the heart). Loved his stuff...

Just take a listen to his acoustic number "Between the Bars", it's poetry and music. That man was a great talent...

Also, some Sarah Mclachlan to soothe the soul... ^_^

[Ling] - March 1, 2005 12:54 PM (GMT)

- Nine Inch Nails
- Rammstein!
- Michael Jaskson (Billie jean!)
- Aimee Mann
- Sade (King of Sorrow)
- Carpenters (2 great musicians who died young.)

=D Alright! ^5! Did you get her Best of Soul? Love. Her. DVD!!!
Ling, I disagree with your prejudice against boybands, but I listen to a variety of music genres, so I do like Linkin Park!! =) Dunno about the rest though. And I hate f***ing rappers too!! And all the new bimbo singers...like SHE!!! OMG. -.-

Winder - March 1, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
Nope... Just fall in love with her recently, although heard of her albums long time ago. Didn't really have the $$$ to get her album till now. Hahaha ~

[wy~*] - March 1, 2005 03:12 PM (GMT)
It was my bro who liked her 1st...I only really started listening to her music after getting Best of Soul. I like her much better with long straight hair and the innocent look than the whatever grown-up new identity with porcupine hair. -.- GO GO GO GET BEST OF SOUL!!! THE DVD ROCKS!!! SHE'S A FANTASTIC DANCER!!!
Haha, sorry for the extremity guys.

Blink 182 has a song called "Toast and Bananas" from Cheshire Cat, it's pretty cool.

Oh and yeah, Semi-charmed Life by Third Eye Blind is also a nice tune for me. So is CH-Check It Out by teh beastie Boys. Yeah.

Oh yeah, and a really really cool song from Jock Jams. It's more of a beat... something called Let's Get Ready to Rumble, with the guy at the beginning going "let's get ready to rumbllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and this UBER-cool beat sets in, and then another guy goes, "ya'll ready for this?" I think it was used in Space Jam way way way way back. I kinda associate it with american football for some reason (The Denver Broncos are my team and they pwn all. w00t) That song always, ALWAYS gets me up on my feet. You guys should go hear it too, it's an awesome song. I'm getting high listening to it... it's like freaking alcohol for me. A whole barrel of it
