do it slow first.. let the hand capture the motion.. den slowly increase the speed of ur hand movement

Daryl - February 28, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
When youre starting out.. it takes awhile for your hand to get the physics of the cards.. and hence every flourish you learn will take longer at the start. the key? patience. Just keep practicing and practicing.. flourishing is not as easy as how some people make it look ;)

you can always ask for tips on whichever move you have trouble on. but make sure you check the flourish section if it has been previously posted first.

For advice on which flourish dvd to buy.. check through some of the earlier threads.

Also, if youve not gone into magic.. i suggest that you learn that too. flourishing is more of a self-pride kinda thing. what would really entertain people is skill in magic..

Peace.

Yup yup I agree with Daryl.

I find that it helps if I have a friend walk me through it, because that offers me a much more in-depth look at the placement of fingers (very important when flourishing!) as compared to a DVD. Plus words of encouragement help a lot as well.

Focus on your hands, and as you get more and more familiar see if you can do it without conciously thinking of each and every phase of the flourish. If you can, then you're familiar enough.

Work on speed once there. :)

NOTHING.

Fear is in the MIND of the beholder. trust me, hands on, LIVE teaching is the best you can get. Who knows, you might even get to be taught by the great KEVIN himself in person ;)

Burr... never thought my little shitty website would inspire others to start "animating" ;)

I primarily use CLJ's technique... every night before I go to sleep, I tell myself to do a certain flourish around 20 times perfectly before I can allow myself to go hit the sack. And while I'm practicing, the lights are off, which mean that I will have to rely on muscle memory rather than visual hints to be able to do the flourish, which makes execution much smoother. Sure, this has resulted in lots of sleepless nights, but none of them were wasted :D

And yeah... wherever, whenever... just do magic for people, and throw in a flourish now and then that you've gotten down well. The great things about flourishes are that you practice while you perform... goody.

About practicing before sleeping is the correct way to do so. It's said by researcher that if you read a book or practice something before bedtime, you will remember the book or the thing you practice very well.

[Ling] - March 1, 2005 12:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I've read about this too.

Anyway, practising before bedtime is great, it make you feel really good doing something that you enjoy after a whole day of boring school etc and yeah you will improve bit by bit by practising regularly. ;)

Hello,

To learn flourishing you need to have :

1) Dedication
-a devoting or setting aside for a particular purpose.

2) Inspiration
-stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity.

Just hanging around at home with your deck of cards the whole day at home wont help you to improve . Instead, find a comfortable place in your home, sit down and really concentrate on what you are doing. Away from all interruptions and distractions. Also, play some music along to get you in the mood to flourish.

Before your training/practice session, always have a particular GOAL.
For example, smoothness or speed or something kinky.
Dont set goals too low and not too high.

Hope this helps. :P

If he's in magic and sincere, willingly to dedicate for the Art of Magic. I don't see a reason why not ?

Why don't you ask him to come to the forum and join the forum as well. :)

i also practice flourishing/magic in my bed before i go to sleep as it's dark bc it has the added benefit that you don't have to reach very far to gather cards if you drop them :P plus it's comfy, and my parents don't like it when i lose a lot of sleep for stuff like flourishing and juggling so they won't bother me if i'm in my bed. little do they know about the lovely glow in the dark juggling balls that i have hehe... but i limit myself to 3 drops, then no more juggling bc it's quite loud  ^_^

i believe this is applied to piano playing oso? jus heard of this b4 too..
anyway, maybe u jus hav a deck in ur pocket wherever u go? make use of every free time u hav practising.. most imptly, study ur handmovement while u practise.. think of ways to improve ur movements, ur speed and everything.. and u must believe that one day u can certainly get ur desired quality of a particular flourish.. sooner or later..ull become a pro.. hope this helps? B)

hey hey.. its been a while since i posted something .. anyway..
ive got my inspiration from daryl.. ( all credit to daryl ) - purposely disturb only. ive started flourishing a bit and slowly picked up..its good tat u have sources man.. cos i was struggling without any resources on my own trying and trying.. so tat might help you.. cos little little finger positions maybe a cm more to the left or right really makes a lot of differences..
i love practicing before i sleep as well, but i keep my lights on.. till i get tired.. then leave the cards at the side of the bed.. next morning.. blur blur wake up and step on it... nice...... but keep working man.. everyone needs practice... ok now back to my stupid cut.. keep on dropping cards... cheers !!!
