Title: Card Spinning On Finger
Description: talk abt it. my 'theory' on it. READ!
poping - March 1, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
yeaps.. i 'mastered' this cool looking thing a few weeks back.
didnt post. kinda bored. so decided to talk about it.
i think its great! it mkaes u look like a pro.
u can do it with ur ez-link card? or whatever once u mastered it.
it makes u look great.
anyway, its not just looking great.
its MISDIRECTION!
like u got the ace of spades. u take it and give it a spin.
everyone admires and blablabla.
do u know at that time u got a whole load of time of misdirection.
lol.. sorry if im exaggerating. u can easily catch a break or wadever!
reach into ur pocket? blabla?
tons of misdirection.
also if ure doing trikcs that incldue only a fwe cards.
like reset ? u spin the kings and aces. it makes ur routine look professional and nice.
post ur comments and stuff
GordonLi - March 1, 2005 01:52 PM (GMT)
thats not misdirection, its simply distraction from the magic.
use it only when the situation is relax, dun do it as a cover up. it will make u look pro of course, but using it to cover up is not pro. can use as display or to subtly emphasise its one card.
poping - March 1, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
lol why cannot use to cover up? i dun mean putting the spinning card on top of the deck as i get the break.
its like when people see the spinning card. they wonder wad is it.
then at that point. u already misdirect the attention
GordonLi - March 1, 2005 02:15 PM (GMT)
sorry, it was just the line "its MISDIRECTION!"
i suppose u may... use it to get a break... but best is dun get a break at all if possible.

yeah sort of do that after a 4 ace production? or when the card rises to the top of the pack ... yeah , there are much better ways to catch breaks with out misdirection , people will simply wonder why u are spinning the card for no reason at all
tham - March 1, 2005 02:47 PM (GMT)
yeah i agree it looks really good. but for misdirection? definitely not. as gordie said its just a small distraction, any observant spectator (heckler.) would surely not be fooled.
btw, it looks really good if while spinning u launch it into the air and it boomerangs back to u.
Rand - March 1, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
Wow... a card is so light and u can spin it... I can only do that with books or pillow... Must be awesome...
M@gical86 - March 1, 2005 04:18 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...Card spinning,i tink i wil use my time learning how to communicate wif e audience or spectator and catching a break in front of em..Tink tt wil b a greater effect rather den e spinning card...
Kevin - March 2, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
Actually, I'd say it's a sleight form of misdirection (all puns intended), akin to tabling a card beneath its case while doing a one-handed riffle shuffle in the other. Flourishes make great "attention controls", as Mr. Wonder calls them, and when integrated with magic as Poping suggested, can work to maximum effect.

Well, that's a neat idea. =)
But another way to get a break is just by gesturing. Larger motion covers the smaller one, and it's done.

ya. i do that alot of time also.
haha. but the card spinning always work!
but i dun always do that for misdirction.
i do that for twisting the aces, reset and stuff.
makes the routine LIVELY! aiya dun really know how to express it. just makes the routine loook better and interseting.
haha. i nv got caught when i catching the break

u are not supposed to anyway

Incidentally, if you do get caught, head straight on to your "appearing cave" effect.

Gestury-ing :D
haha.. i think youre talking about the pirouette right? and not jerrys one finger spin... yup.. its a great simple flourish.
[Ling] - March 2, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
For me, I use that card spinning move while using that Black Tiger crooked Ace of Spades thingy. So the spinning will 'turn' the ace, then your patter can follow up to deepen the impact. B)

Hmmm good idea ling...I was still thinking of what i should do with thee ace...Other den Er**** colour ch*****
sammyp10 - March 8, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
i myself love to spin cards... really cool haha.. love to do it with my e z link card as well, but i include that in magic. but i flick it spining in the air and catch it back again.. its quite a good mis direction i guess. cos when the card is spinning in the air, usually the crowd looks at the card in the air, catch them while their looking and do a card switch with your other hand holding the deck. ( so u can not use a DL if people already know what that is ) - well its quite fun, but if u drop it.. malu abit.. haha
anyone tried spinning 2 cards together , making them look like one ?
BUYA !
BuaYa - March 9, 2005 10:18 AM (GMT)
PoPing. Dun take all our opinions too seriously. Just make sure that your magic is one that suits YOU! Originality and personality are the key factors of magic. Honestly, I do the pirroute as misdirection as you said above. Its darn good, but it seems noone shares this opinion...
Good job!
poping - March 11, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
lol thank you thank you.
it worked very great for me. haha
BuaYa - March 11, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
Its all that matters. ^.-
spiritual - March 29, 2005 08:54 AM (GMT)
sorrie ah...i'm new to magic...u spin the card in wat way???on top of ur finger...is there a skill or just turning???
GordonLi - March 29, 2005 09:05 AM (GMT)
contact the tip of ur middle finger to the tip of ur thumb on the same hand.
rotate ur hand outwards such that the thumb is up and the fingers are down. this is the position.
its a skill/small flourish thing where the card spins at the tip of ur middle finger, and once spinning, thumbs are off.
spiritual - March 29, 2005 09:18 AM (GMT)
erm...sorry...i don understand...can say again
GordonLi - March 29, 2005 09:27 AM (GMT)
sure! here u go:
"contact the tip of ur middle finger to the tip of ur thumb on the same hand.
rotate ur hand outwards such that the thumb is up and the fingers are down. this is the position.
its a skill/small flourish thing where the card spins at the tip of ur middle finger, and once spinning, thumbs are off."
okok, im kidding.
just run through the steps slowly. this is just like a magic book, may take a while to understand. but that was my best attempt at it, so theres no way for me to rephrase it.
anyway, this is only to give u an idea of how it looks like, not to explain how its done. (just in case ppl are concerned with exposure, this is describing effect not method)
BuaYa - March 29, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Oh no he 'exposed' a FLOURISH. -.-
Who's concerned?

u mean even flourish oso cannot expose? i am learning how to do a nice fan.. if so.. how now?
LarryDK - March 30, 2005 02:50 PM (GMT)
Ya.. A nice flourish.. but i think it could waste ur time in doing magic.. Talking can be a better choice.. Since u still need one of ur hand to do tat.. U onli left one hand to create something.. Juz talking and a big gesture or juz making the audience laugh is a long enough misdirection for a move.. And no one can catch u.. And they will be more off guard than u do the move and they know that u sure got practise..
So in the end.. Depends on individual..
my 2 cent comments..

Flourishes which have available sources to learn from shouldnt be exposed. Flourshes created by respective individuals should be learnt from its creator.
For other flourishes like fans, table spreads etc that are created 3 eons ago and the original creator is unknown to most, you can go for the SMC outing and spot someone who does it nicely, and then beg him/her to teach you.
GordonLi - March 31, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
anyway, i was just trying to be careful.
moreover, i only described the effect and not method, so there should be no cause for concern.
im not very sure about the ethical issues of flourishing, but i believe its similar to magic...
BuaYa - March 31, 2005 02:31 PM (GMT)
Ha ha ha. Daryl! BEG!!! "
Teach me your split-the-GOD-DAMN-atom.
I wanna learn please please please!" HUR HUR HUR/
Daryl - March 31, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
Haha.. i actually tried to teach Bone today and he picked it up quite fast, but he did comment that it was F#@!#@! hard.
I think im not going to teach this to people anymore, because too many are starting to pick it up! For those who got it, i hope you do it nicely. these people actually learnt it from my black or white video! incredible!
