Description: You saw it in IF convention

For those who are wondering where to get this effect. You can find it here. Pricey though.

tham - March 3, 2005 02:29 PM (GMT)
was it in his lecture? for some reason, i cannot remember this effect.

TheMaestro - March 3, 2005 02:33 PM (GMT)
I believe it was the prediction effect we say ending with the prediction embossed in gold on the wallet.

I'm also interested in the egg-bag effect. I remember he was selling it for $160. Is it so expensive because of his original routine?

tham - March 3, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
hmm..

isn't the egg bag routine purely sleight of hand? perhaps the routine and the bag cost $160 altogether, as it is quite a powerful routine.

this is getting :off:

He closed the lecture with this effect.

Jimagician - March 4, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
Yes, it is pricey but if you have the $, it is worth the price. :)

On the other hand, such effect can be easily be replaced with other "cheaper" tricks for layman. You don't really need to get Nemo 1500 for that kind of effect. "Future Zone" is one of them. Concept is similar. (I am sure there are others)

Remember, it is not only about the trick/effect alone. It is also about the entertainment value, presentation and showmanship (that includes emotions and feelings- something I learnt from Tommy Wonders during his lecture).

Sometimes, pple don't remember the trick but the magician who performs the effect. For example, pple don't usually talk about the illusions of DC (David Coppertone....)but DC himself or even David Blain

My thinking for your reflection.

I totally agree!

Johnny Thompson's Nemo 1500 rocks big time... it's a REAL magician fooler even - ask anyone who went for the IF lectures!

A good effect worth investing in if you're a card guy (or girl) *looks at Ling* ^_^

Aloy - March 4, 2005 05:22 AM (GMT)
i agree with Jimagician on this one.
If you are performing for complete layman, there are much cheaper and easier way to present the same effect - a card choosen by spec matches the prediction in multiple places, just f**** it.

This trick is very much designed to be a magician's fooler, because the general effect is nothing new, just the methods are very different.
I would really love to find out if a f**** was indeed used (if so, how can it be possible??), or there's some other methods in the predictions.
But realistically, with good presentation, it wouldn't make much difference to a layman spec....

...BUT I'M SO CURIOUS ABOUT THE METHOD :g: ...

...but if there's something i've learnt during IF, it's that magic is not in the method :)

....Dilemma

Magicdow - March 4, 2005 05:33 AM (GMT)
True. There are many methods that'll look the same to layman. But this one is a killer. I don't think I'll fork out that kind of money for this but I sure like to know how its done. $130 just to know how its done? Too much for me. :(

Ning - March 4, 2005 06:57 AM (GMT)
Sigh, it IS pricey... but man.. it's GOOD... *drool*

JT just about slayed everyone at the end of his lecture, prooving that he wasn't some fudey dudey pushover

Oh yeah, thanks for sharing the link with all of us magicdow!

GordonLi - March 4, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
yes, the effect is so very strong...

perfect for a mentalism routine, or for that matter, ANY routine!

its great!

tham - March 4, 2005 01:12 PM (GMT)
OH this routine.. wow. morph i still remember you and magicdow discussing the methods to this effect after the lecture.

actually, if the method itself is worth $130 to johnny thompson, it HAS got to be a great method. think about that.

GordonLi - March 4, 2005 01:51 PM (GMT)
i wasnt watching out for the methods, just wanted to get fooled.

and i have to say, i was! badly! but it was a great feeling. usually, even if i wanna get fooled, i cant.

but this is just simply great, and i have no idea how its done. i dont really want to know either (its quite nice not to know something). 1day i might want to purchase this wonderful effect though...

says no sleights required.. haha.. maybe he p**** the chosen card or soemthign

p****** is considered a sleight ;)

Really really nice effect.

Moondust - March 7, 2005 07:17 PM (GMT)
He definitely didn't p*** the deck.

The card was selected while being dealt face up and stopped at will by Michael Lam (one of the participants for the close-up competition at IF and a card magician).

I must say, everyone was completely fooled.

Kian Meng from AMN offered a pretty reasonable explanation for the effect (which is a widely used method for mentalists). I must say that there are plenty of ways to do it without blowing the $$ on this trick.

Still, it was an absolute stunner.
