maybe some may hav the problem of getting audience.. i believe it's not wise to walk around and say yoohoo! can i show u something... although street magi always do this.. i observe myself that by doing his, u are actually requesting them to watch me perform.. which means u may meet uninterested ppl or even busy ones.. i know u will say i should choose the right audience.. oh well lets say i lousy at choosing audience.

Hence, their attention are seldom with me... even if they are.. they will some sort of like not really impress by anything i do.. cos maybe it's me who ask them to watch.. means im prepared and ready to perform... cant really explain this clearly.. ive also heard that if an audience approaches u to do magic when u're mentally unprepared(but magi are always practically prepared =p), reaction after ur performance tends to get better.. cos they are the one who ask.. they are most likely to pay attention when i perform.. or even be impressed greatly.. greatly impressed becos they hav the mentality that u are doing impromptu magic (even u hav with u a gimmick and are using it without the audience knowing) compared to when u ask them to watch u perform, its like u may be using a gimmick.. or the cards are already arranged in some sort of orders... something like that la..
all these are from my observations the past few months..(with justin buaya)

so heres the question...how to get audience approach u.. one way ive seen justin did was by doing lots of flourishes with his cards.. then when ppl walk past, they usually get attracted.. dunno y even though flourishes do not show signs of magic effects.. Or even doing small magic effects in public.. even though u know u are getting ppl's attention, u pretend u dunno.. in short u do ont open ur mouth and say "hey show u sth". Another way is to .. actually its not a way.. its an inevitablitiy of audience who know that u are a magi to approach u when they see u.. maybe becos they hav seen u perform las time? anyway.. this case is not approppriate here cos im talking abt getting new audience not old audience..

so u guys..feel free to shoot any comments and suggestions..or really there arent any more ways besides doing flourishes and choosing the right audience? Thx.

Well You can actually try to hang a sign board stating "I am a magician, come forward and i show you something that will make you sleepless for nights"

You can actually approach audience instead of waiting for audience to approach you. Getting audience to approach you is a different thing or you can actually post a picture of yourself like what Jeremy Tan has done in his Friendster and saying "Studying in *School*, if you see me, come forward and i show you something"

Just get the courage and walk up to someone and say "Hey dude, let me show you something or run some test on you" Cause my Guinea pig just passed away with the last lab test i ran on them.

Go ahead man ~ Do some magic, shock your audience, make them go crazy.

Talking about crazy, it's been a long time since i perform to any lay audience. Hahahaha ~

Hmmm, how to get audience to approach you?
For me, I need to show somthing first to some people, let my magic spread by mouth. Then as time goes by, you will realise that people will start to come up to you, asking some little performance here and there, and you don't even know it. Build up your good ''publicity'' slowly in your school, that's what I did. After that, schoolmates will forget your name, and call you Magician. Very Satisfying! :D

Lol Singaoreans are shy to walk up to you most of the time they will just take a look and walk away.. so it not advisable to wait lol~..

When you caught the attention of passer by walk over and talk to them then show them some effects that will make them go wow... when you perfrom to one person people will start to crowd round you.. you need one person to bring you a crowd lol~ that how Singapore works.. The people get curious on what the guy is wowing about and will come and take a look as well..

Haa in sch I do not need to even do anything and people will ask me to perfrom... So in sch once you get the title of magicman lol.. Be Prepare to be ask to perfom most of the time lol.. :D

I think a few flourishes would help.. to be honest..

Huron and i were flourishing in orchard when this lady suddenly just came up to us and said "can i take a video of what you're doing? it looks so impossible.. i wanna show my friends" and this was not before we were having quite a few stares from passers by.

Once some people actually stop and see you flourish, you can start to approach them for a trick. you know you'll have an audience by then ;)

Well usually for me in school I get bugged to perform something so I don't really have to approach. ;)

But sometimes when I'm real bored I do approach random people along the corridor, or I just stand there and do whatever, and usually within 2 minutes someone will take notice. And that's it.

Hahaha ... The only problem with me is my audience will never be a girl, cause i will get very very shy with a girl next to me. So you know why i never perform to girls :X

yes i agree on the part about increasing ur publicity first.. i perform all my stuffs to my class mates in school .. approachin ppl occasionally.. pretty soon, ppl would have heard more or less from their frens abt the magi and decides to approach him to see for themselves..

wala! ure famous.. and u can be sure those audiences are interested to see something. so far iam stil spreading my act around the school, stil building up fame :D

Hmm, building up publicity.. good idea.. but i should start building from my frens first or i approach strangers..

i find that usually girls has a higher percentage of not being hecklers.. where else alpha males might think tat ure tryin to prove ur supeiority to dem and therefore bringin out their heckler in dem..

Girls actually gives better reaction than guys. But somehow i prefer guys reaction, they can really go wild. So it's just your presentation style, don't be afraid to go up to someone. YES they might be uninterested, everyone is uninterested. but it's your job to entertain them if you are willingly to go up to someone. Magic is about entertainment, so just do it.

ppl will usually not approach u... would u approach a stranger? u might get publicity in school, but not reputation. in the first place, school is not "public" so its not really "publicity".

i would prefer a mix of guys and girls, so u get a mix of reaction. just have to be careful with guys cos they are concerned if they appear "dumb" and might try to outsmart u or pretend to know-it-all and become a heckler. but i dun want all girls cos although the reaction is great, its gets boring (just screaming and shrieking). i want variety in reactions, and this is one way to do it other than to play with emotions.

if u want to entertain a crowd of strangers, u need something to attract attention first. people will not approach, but they will crowd around u in numbers to watch something. (they feel safer in numbers).

any flourish/manipulation/fire/visual effects can be used as ur crowd puller. the rest of ur effects have to be good to keep the crowd.

I hardly peform to any gal, coz the chance of it is very rare. Nowadays, my magic spreads FAST like wild fire. I would be walking along a corridor when some guy whom i TOTALLY do not know come up to me and says HEY SHOW ME A TRICK.

Life is good. Not all boys are hecklers. But if you can get girls, thts good... its rare they are hecklers.
