Title: Who Else Wants To Start A Band?
Description: Kevin still wannabe a punk rocker

Kevin - March 17, 2005 05:09 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, I was just wondering... any of y'all can sing or play instruments or something? Skill doesn't really matter; I'm not that good either, but I believe that by doing, you can advance further in the art. So what say you?

I play guitar stuff by mostly Blink 182, and some other rock bands , but I'm game to any other genre as long as it's fun. And not country.

WHO WILL JOIN ME?!??!?!??!?

-Kev

[Ling] - March 17, 2005 05:16 AM (GMT)
Hey I've been into the idea of setting up a metal band! I can do some guttural sounding vocals or dry lung. Besides that, I have no musical talents... But I'm very passionate about metal music!!!!

I'm looking for elect. guitarists, some insane good drummer and a bassist.
Might set up a metal band after my Os. It shall be heavily Cradle of Filth influenced. :P

- Ling. \m/

Kevin - March 17, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)
Dear lord... burr.

But I guess it's aight... in metal, the music is so heavy that it really doesn't matter what you're playing :P (I'm just kidding it's a stereotype lollerskates)

But yeah... the O's are still quite some time away. Anyone is free?

And Jamkid... yu0 am teh 1337!!! Blew me away with your skillz, dude... you're in a league of yer own ;)

Hell yeah! \m/

Metal music is heavy yet beautiful. :g: :g: :g:

Loved them all. Crazy solos, fast double pedding of the bass drums, beautifully crafted lyrics and haunting vocals. Insanily addictive.

I have already thought of a band name, in fact! It will be either Death Threat or Utter Blasphemy.

1337 speek is teh passe? Dood... teh Vesti am teh roXXorzzz!!!

Nah, I wouldn't speak like that in real life, but I find it highly amusing online... especially on that phenomenal forum, "The Vestibule" :D

Anyways, yeah... I like some of Metallica's more popular songs (Sorry, those are all I've bothered to listen to of metal) like Enter Sandman, One, and... Master of Puppets. w00t!

And yeah... I like some of Limp Bizkit's work (even though it's rap metal) because of Wes Borland's EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEME!!!!!1111 guitar skillz. So do they count?

But to refer back to my top post... who else here is a fan of the alternative/punk genre that comprises of Blink-182, Sum41, Boxcarracers and the like? Not Simple Plan or Good Charlotte or stuff like that, if you know what I mean :D Pug Jelly is also great! ;)

Kev, you KNOW I am =D Alternative rock/straight edge punk is probably the only kinda music I listen to. There's a set-back though: I suck at instruments and don't play anything but the piano. And as you well know, pianos are for ......and me, and they can't recreate any cool music, so I guess it's a no-go for me here.

Oh yeah... I hate heavy metal. Shoot me.

ziLin - March 17, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)
but they need keyboards in a band too.. isn't playing piano equivalent to being able to play the keyboard? i think.

i play the guitar.. but the classical guitar..

And yeah... System of a Down is cool; I like "Chop Suey", "AIEAEIO", "Psycho", and "Chic n Stu". In fact, I like all of their songs... these are just the ones that I listen to more often.

I'm presently contemplating working in Singapore. Can someone tell me if there are Jam Studio's in Singapore? This is a major factor in my decision.

Cheers!

I've been playing since July last year, my passion lies more on the electric. The simple stuff, though... I'm still trying to learn them crazy air guitar solo's ;)

[Ling] - March 18, 2005 07:36 AM (GMT)
For the genre of alternative, I'd like some Wilco, Sade and Aimee Mann. Nice stuff there.

30210162 - March 19, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
How come no one answer me? :( *sniff...

Ling: Singapore got Jam Studio/Rehearsal Studio's kah?

[Ling] - March 20, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)

Here in Singapore, there are a number of jam studios (or rehearsal or recording studios)

For jamming and recording, search for 'Liquid Fire' studios, or 'Wake Me Up Music'.

For just jamming alone, Wee Lee Music and Swee Lee Music (the latter aint that gd..)

The above are just some examples. There are many others too. For more info, go to www.soft.com.sg. Then go under the heading of 'Studios'.

U may b able to find what u want/need. Btw, its really like a Music version of SMC.

:P

Anyways, yeah... I got to Jam with one of the upcoming members of Pug Jelly, it was real fun. His name is James... watch out for this beast ;)

James will be a backing vocalist, and taking over the Bass, so that Sam will just be a pure vocalist. I think that his joining will be announced once the band returns from their tour in Thailand.

Oh, and yeah... James is on my school bus ;)

i wanna play in a band!! weeee
anyone listens to thrice ? , avenged sevenfold?

[Ling] - March 25, 2005 12:29 PM (GMT)
Avenged Sevenfold is a good US band. :)

Chandran - March 25, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
Heh.

The studio which I always go to is Boon's at Potong Pasir, Tai Thong Cres. Pretty nifty place.

Small rooms at 10 per hour
Medium at 12 per hour
And large at 15 per hour.

Could go give it a try.

I play the western drumset and am just starting to learn tribal hand drums, cool stuff.

YOOHOOOOOOOO :D

[Ling] - March 26, 2005 03:53 PM (GMT)
Nice!

I've been wanting to learn the drumset since sec 1, but didn't have a chance to.

- Ling

Barney - March 26, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
Ling, u wanted to learn? Haha.. You could've been my student, if only u knew me last time. I used to be a 'charitable' music teacher. (read: FREE classes) then i stopped. Super tiring. Everyday a different instrument, different styles and genres. Crazy.. Now i only have one guitarist, two keyboardists and one drummer under me (the drummer is still contemplating). Big drop from last time. :)

Btw Kev, did you receive my last msg? I didn't get a reply. So i'm trying here on this thread..

Chandran - March 26, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
I realised that more and more people are learning how to play the drumset, which is a good thing!

But somehow, after playing the drumset for close to 4 years, I honestly am getting a wee lil bored of it already.

I'm just considering whether to take up the African Djembe or the Tabla now. Both seem equally enticing to me.

Who knows, I might be the next Maniam and you could see me in Zouk playing the tabla to house or trance, WOOHOO.

:P

[Ling] - March 27, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
My aim is to learn the drumset with double bass or what you called double pedding. Super crazy!

For everyone's info:

The double bass is an instrument in the orchestra, the super huge vertical 'violin'.. ^_^

Haha.. Dun worry, Ling. I ain't making fun of ya! :)
