Title: Vanishing Coin
Addicted - March 23, 2005 07:41 AM (GMT)
Wats your most favourite vanishing coin trick u do with sleight of hand?
Aloy - March 23, 2005 08:50 AM (GMT)
French drop? B)
Actually I think no sleight is superior to others, some are just harder to execute. Method for sleight of hand (impromptu) vanishing of a coin is really not that important, it's perhaps more important to have an interesting routine/presentation you can use it with. Just making a coin disappear is not that interesting.
And learn a few methods and you can cycle thru them so that the audience wouldn't catch on too quickly.
IMHO... B)

French drop i only know to do so. B)

French Drop ...
I must say that this is most favourite coin sleight of all.
Kevin - March 23, 2005 11:11 AM (GMT)
For some reason, I love Greg Wilson's "pitch n ditch" vanish, but I keep forgetting to do it! *d'oh*
And yeah... the strike vanish is teh 1337. Versatile, too... doesn't just apply to coins.

i wan to ask you if u are doing french drop, do u manage to convince the audience after the act cause most ppl -censored- .. how do u actually make them believe u make the coin disappear and reappear?
Magicdow - March 23, 2005 12:21 PM (GMT)
I prefer Mike Gallo's spider vanish, or even a classic p*** vanish.
kryptikalism - March 23, 2005 12:29 PM (GMT)
i don't think a vanish by itself is good magic.
really.
it's incomplete - to say the least.
vanishes, productions, penetrations and the like should be used in a routine. not as separate parts, but components of a plot that is used to induce wonder.
Winder - March 23, 2005 12:32 PM (GMT)
I got into trouble with my french drop quite a few time, executed the move while buying food and my friend asked me for a dollar after i execute the move and i refuse to open my hand which took it. Had to do some stuff before i open up :P
Ok my bad, i read the post wrongly. Normally i just do a routine which the coin travels here and there non stop. But just make sure your audience have enough time to react, so they know what you are doing.

i find that such coin tricks fascinate the children from kindergartens to primary school age but not wif ppl around my age.. ard 14-16.. they seems like they already know or not interested or mayb like wat kryptikalism said it is to be used in a routine and not used solely

Thats true, it can or cannot be used as a sole movement, in a routine it will be much better. As you are executing different sleights at the same time, which make it diff for the audience to "learn" the movements.
For sole movement, you have to make sure you have a way to get rid of -censored-.

ok i will go figure it out.. do u have any routine to share? cause normally i only do 1 trick with the coins
Winder - March 23, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
I mixed different movements together to form a routine, maybe you could try a story, maybe anti gravity coin like what mac does for his muscle pass routine.
What i does is Electro Coin routine, with different sleights of hand improvise, but my retention need alot of practice. Hahaha ~

Addicted, the key is timing, and belief. You have to make it look like you really DID take the coin from the other hand... try REALLY taking it first in the mirror, then try to make your french drop look as similar to the real transfer as possible. And when you do it, do it nonchalantly... who the concentrates so hard when just taking a coin in their other hand?
Or, you could do a real transfer, have nothing happen as a gag, and then do the vanish... proving that your powers DID work this time. It's called "selling the move".
And about 3 fly... it's a Coins Across at the fingertips, and can be learnt from books and videos, with both gimmicked and impromptu versions. Troy Hooser has some very nice work on this.

Well, did you perform that sleight as a 'hey look, i can make a coin vanish in front of your face'? Well, i use to do that and they usually just focus more on -censored-, becos they know what to expect, i mean, well, -censored-.
So, my advise is that you should either do a flurry, or a coin routine. And if you have to do it as a sleight, just dont let them expect what is going to happen.
Hope that helps alittle.

Morph, just maybe jump in as a mod (or tell Farid to do it) and put a big, red, -CENSORED- to replace the vulnerable words. I do it on the DnD forums, works like a charm.
