Description: by David Copperfield
Ning - October 1, 2004 08:55 AM (GMT)
Have you guys heard about it? check out David Copperfield's official website. I think it's a great idea! :)
makanmonkey - October 1, 2004 09:38 AM (GMT)
Indeed! y u want to start one also ah? haha it's a cool thing to do, really.
Ning - October 1, 2004 10:02 AM (GMT)
seriously speaking.... yes... i'd like to reach out to them. i would love to help out in whatever way i can. hmmm... food for thought...
Aloy - October 1, 2004 10:39 AM (GMT)
Lawrence Khong of Touch Community has something like that in singapore actually.
It's called Project SMILE (Sharing Magic In Love Everywhere) and you can find out more about it at
http://www.magicoflawrence.com/mc_projectsmile.asp.
If you wanna contact them, DO NOT EMAIL THEM. Unfortunately they take really long to reply emails. Call them at their listed number in their contact details and look for Camilla.
I tried to get involved in it before and told them i am a hobbist magician but they have a requirement, that you MUST attend their magic classes. It is good if you are a beginner actually because they teach quite a lot of good foundation stuff like ropes and cups and balls. And you get quite a few props as well. The fees is $75 which is subsidised i think.
I really like what they are doing with Project SMILE. B)
Cheers

I think they're involved in Healing of Magic as well. A projected started by IBM. Currently, I think one of the member is still doing it together with some students. They are helping patients with movement problems by encouraging them via magic.
Aloy - October 1, 2004 04:15 PM (GMT)
Yup, they teach them some basic magic tricks to serve as physio therapy. But again, last time i checked, you need to have gone thru the magic course.
That's the part i cannot figure out, why not get the magic hobbists in as well....
They probably have a good reason for it.
makanmonkey - October 2, 2004 04:45 AM (GMT)
erm... maybe they're scared ppl just go in and do voodoo lor.
but what's the feasibility of starting a gp just like that on our own? sthg to think abt... also how invilved will this gp be? (as in regular sessions or as-and-when)?
ren8585 - October 2, 2004 09:25 AM (GMT)
talking about voodoo.. ning has a voodoo doll.. you never want to mess around  with her

yujie - October 2, 2004 03:51 PM (GMT)
really? hahahahaha.......
Ning - October 3, 2004 10:53 AM (GMT)
LOL... oh yeah, you talking about Bob, my Voodoo doll? Got it from someone who has a shop @ Heeren (X-Factory). He's from Vienna, authentic and made from straw but aye, he's pretty harmless  Supposed to be a lucky charm from hecklers, but apparently his magic didn't work all the time during yesterday's show <_<
yujie - October 3, 2004 11:41 AM (GMT)
oh no, i hope i havent offended Ning all this while..........
ren8585 - October 3, 2004 11:44 AM (GMT)
dont worry your name isnt bob
makanmonkey - October 3, 2004 03:00 PM (GMT)
Wah... then i wonder who Bob is... more importantly what the extent of his injuries are...
Oh yah I was listening to news radio 93.8 on Sat while in my sch lib in the afternoon (wasn't able to go for the show @ suntec *sob*) and they were interviewing Tony Wilson (Int'l pres of Int'l Brotherhood of Magicians) on the segment called "Parenting" I think, he spoke abt Project Magic, apparently it was put fwd by IBM to DC (David Copperfield, sorry, i have the typical s'porean trait of using ACN -- acronyms, blame it on the gah-men) and they're working in tandem, if im not wrong DC's foundation supports it financially.
Also, PM has a video & handbook for the appropriate tricks to teach for different physiological conditions, should be available on IBM's webbie i suppose... might b useful if we go ahead & start sthg like that.
Aloy - October 3, 2004 03:04 PM (GMT)
Actually if a lot of you guys are really interested, i dun mind approaching Project SMILE again about it and see if we can join them. Are we?
illusionist - October 3, 2004 03:18 PM (GMT)
Sure as long for charity I am in hahhaha
Ning - October 4, 2004 06:13 AM (GMT)
hahaha... i don't personally know a Bob, but I'm not going to start sticking pins into my Voodoo doll! *picks it up protectively* :P
I'm thinking... Should we join SMILE or create our own Project Magic Circle to start with? ;)
makanmonkey - October 4, 2004 08:05 AM (GMT)
I'd go with the latter... this being a new gp and all... brimming with enthusiasm haha. B) dang i just lurve this smiley!
illusionist - October 4, 2004 08:06 AM (GMT)
I am just fine with anything just keep me updated hahahah.. :D
Ning - October 4, 2004 08:17 AM (GMT)
I was thinking....... since these people who created Project SMILE force this $75 levey for those who want to join and are rather inflexible from what Morphine described, why don't we start our own thang?
This is something we can all do as a TEAM!!!! :D
illusionist - October 4, 2004 08:40 AM (GMT)
Yep and must have a group name too hahhaha
JamKid - October 4, 2004 01:15 PM (GMT)
i like the idea of having a own group of pple starting something new.
it's a great idea to have a magician's group formed for the purpose for charity. since we have the skills, why not use it to help n bless other pple, especially the less fortunates? This is definately better n more meaningful than the T.H.E.M thing.
for those who want to go further in magic, this is also a good chance for more exposures n experiences. who knows, maybe this will end up into something big n well-known. and people will start to invite the group for performances.

$75 wasn't a levy exactly, it's the price for their magic course. I think they are expecting layman to come in and learn magic for stuff.
BUT....I'm all for forming a team. Actually isn't that what we are doing now already? :) But yeah, let's give it a proper name that we can all tattoo on our backs :D
illusionist - October 4, 2004 05:50 PM (GMT)
Tattoo on our backs is too extreme laready hahaha.. We call ourselve S.E.M.C(Singapore Extreme Magic Circle ) hahahahahaha :P
Ning - October 5, 2004 01:55 AM (GMT)
All right Morphine! that's the spirit!!! ;)
We could have regular meetings to practise and share (hmmm... sorta like cell group, don't you think... hahaha) and maybe at year's end we could do some magic for the kids at the children's Cancer Foundation!
Who's in? :D
JamKid - October 5, 2004 01:58 AM (GMT)
i'm in!! if i'm back in time for it....
makanmonkey - October 5, 2004 08:49 AM (GMT)

GordonLi - October 18, 2004 08:23 AM (GMT)
i really doubt the effectiveness of the healing of magic. wont the victims feel bored? i think the part where the victims enjoy learning the magic thing is exaggerated. anyway, hmm.. name for the team: TeamMagic? dunno.
GordonLi - October 18, 2004 08:26 AM (GMT)
dont get me wrong. not that im not supporting the use of magic for charitable purposes. just that i dont think magic shud be used to improve movement, i dont suppose it will work. of course, motivation magic, magic shows and magic to raise funds are more viable alternatives in my opinion.

Bump....
From the ad I saw on Project Magic, I remember it being something about "giving them a skill that most physically able people could not do".
Which to my understanding is, show them effects, if they show enough interest, teach them and coach them on the Art of Magic, not force every disabled person to do card fan productions.
Anyway what happened to this idea? I'd be interested.....
