Title: Born To Perform Card Magic
darkmagician - April 3, 2005 01:33 PM (GMT)
I am relatively new to magic, or maybe not. just that i haven't really been practising. Oh yeah this video, born to perform card magic by Oz pearlman. It is a good video according to my friend.
Basically i just want to ask whether i should get this video, because i want to learn many sorts of card tricks like some flourishes and tricks, but i am not sure what video to get..
Do anyone know what video i should get.

I am into street magic like u too...
Born to Perform is my first DVD, it's simply rocks.
Why ?
It will teach u quite a few basic handling and how to move thur out the whole magic trick.
Basic Flourishes, How to Hold a deck, Cut a Deck, Handle the Deck and some few quite useful Shuffle to use for Street performing..
I strongly recommand for starter, just like me. :)
All I can say it's a DVD which let YOU become a instant Street Magician in just 30mins.
Just in case u want to know what's my second DVD, it's Stealing Pips fromm Oz PearlMan too.. I don't recommand for street magic as most of the tricks require neither 2 decks or a Mat/Table.
Unless you doesn't mind carry a table around. :!!:

I hope you are just trying to say good things abt the DVD. Because i believe nobody can make anyone an "instant magician" in 30 mins. You might be able to know all the secrets in 30 mins, but surely performing takes a little more than just knowing the secrets. To do it correctly. B)

yes, secrets do not make a magician!
magic is not based ONLY on secrets, but as an art, many factors theory, psychology, presentation, entertainment etc ALL come into play.
theres no way u can be a "magician" in 30 min, definitely lots of practice is needed.
surely magic is not that cheap that from 1 dvd, u can learn to be a MAGICIAN, and in just 30 min!

Told ya it was magic.
Watching the entire DVD takes more than 30 mins.

Well, born to perform is my first DVD as well...I think its a must have...Trust me,u really need it to have a good start...Just by practising all the moves inside,i think u can start to create a trick by yourself and be good to cover yourself when hecklers wanted to disturb your shuffles...Anyway just get it and u will know what i mean, but most importantly, practise hard...U will not regret... ^_^
GordonLi - April 5, 2005 11:08 AM (GMT)
i dont think it is a must have. its just hyped up and popular...
true, it might be a sort of "crash course" in card magic, but u will need foundation. RRTCM provides that in a chapter to chapter basis, and yes, books will form the basis of your magic if used well.

How bout Jay Sankey's Amazing Magic Tricks Anyone Can Do - Volumes 1-2 (DVD) ? Will it be better than Born to Perform?

seriously, just take my advice and go for books like RRTCM and Bobo's modern coin magic.
if u insist on DVDs, for cards u can look for daryl's stuff, for coins david roth's. u might want to try other "specialists" cos they generally teach better stuff then just over-commercialised magic "teachers". but for general magic and most stuff, u can safely go with the ammar series. he teaches well.

Actually...personally, I would recommend a beginner to start with DVDs, because it is so much easier to learn. A beginner might be easily frustrated with the tediousness of learning from a book unless they have someone to guide them.
Books are more for the intermediate and advance magicians, because i think a good amount of foundation must be present before you can really gain something from the books. Hidden treasures are more likely found in books than in DVDs in my opinion.
Of course there is the danger of being so depandant on visual instruction that someone never graduates to the books.
BuaYa - April 6, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
Do you know why you can't find hidden treasures in a DVD? Because everything in a DVD is not hidden! Its impossible to miss it unless you're doing 3 things at the same time! ^^

Yeah, we should all take advantage of technology and let it aid us.
Videos first, then books to bring you more in depth.

Hmm... I brought the DVD... it teaches the basic which can be found in books... I recommend buying it if you having trouble visualizing the content or just simply lazy to read...Great for beginner like me... The magic effect is a gogogo...
Should amaze alot of your friends...
But books is still better...

Well my friend recommended the micheal ammar series so did kevin in another topic. Anybody have a reviews or views on it?

Actually BTP + Michael Ammar is good.
Michael Ammar - Easy to Master Card Miracles Volume 1 - 9 is a good source for those who really wish to master Card Magic.

crash course i also good i think. but it is slightly more expensive for the sencond one.
